Claims
- 1. A laser beam projector, comprising:a stationary structure and an electrically powered component mounted on a moveable member which moves with respect to said stationary structure; at least two generally planar surfaces positioned respectively on said stationary structure and said moveable member; and at least one wire bonded between said at least two generally planar surfaces such that said wire electrically couples said planar surfaces.
- 2. The laser beam projector of claim 1 further including:a first conductor affixed to said generally planar surface positioned on said stationary structure; and a second conductor affixed to said generally planar surface positioned on said moveable member and electrically coupled to said component, said second conductor separated from said first conductor by a gap; wherein said at least one wire is ball-and-stitch bonded across said gap from said first conductor to said second conductor such that current can flow from said first conductor to said second conductor.
- 3. The laser beam projector of claim 1 wherein said component is a laser diode.
- 4. The laser beam projector of claim 3 further including a rotatable optical member mounted on said stationary structure for rotating a laser beam emitted by said laser diode.
- 5. The laser beam projector of claim 1 wherein said moveable member is a pendulum.
- 6. The laser beam projector of claim 1 wherein said moveable member is movably mounted with respect to said stationary structure through a second moveable member and wherein said at least one wire includes a first portion extending between said stationary structure and said second moveable member, and a second portion extending between said second moveable member and said moveable member.
- 7. The laser beam projector of claim 6 wherein said first portion includes at least one first wire ball-and-stitch bonded from said stationary structure to said second moveable member, and at least one second wire ball-and-stitch bonded from said second moveable member to said moveable member.
- 8. The laser beam projector of claim 6 wherein said component mounted on said moveable member is a laser diode.
- 9. The laser beam projector of claim 1 wherein said at least one wire is made of gold.
- 10. The laser beam projector of claim 1 wherein said moveable member includes at least one pivot axis and said at least one wire extends across said gap in a direction which is parallel to said pivot axis.
- 11. The laser beam projector of claim 1 wherein said at least one wire is made of aluminum.
- 12. A laser beam projector, comprising:a pendulum supported by an outer bearing defining a first rotational axis and an inner bearing defining a second rotational axis perpendicular to said first rotational axis, said inner bearing supported on an inner bearing support which is rotatable about said first rotational axis, and a bridge for providing electrical power from a stationary structure to a device mounted on the pendulum; wherein said bridge includes a first conductor electrically coupled to said stationary structure, a second conductor affixed to said inner bearing support, said first conductor and said second conductor defining a first gap therebetween, a first wire ball-and-stitch bonded across said first gap from said first conductor to said second conductor, a third conductor affixed to said pendulum and electrically coupled to said device, said third conductor and said second conductor defining a second gap therebetween, and a second wire ball-and-stitch bonded across said second gap from said second conductor to said third conductor whereby electrical power is delivered to said device on said pendulum from said stationary structure without substantially inhibiting the movement of said pendulum over a range of motion.
- 13. The laser beam projector of claim 12 wherein said first wire is bonded across said first gap above said first axis of rotation and substantially parallel to said first axis of rotation.
- 14. The laser beam projector of claim 13 wherein said second wire is bonded across said second gap above said second axis of rotation and substantially parallel to said second axis of rotation.
- 15. The laser beam projector of claim 14 wherein said first and second wires are made of one of the group consisting of gold and aluminum.
- 16. The laser beam projector of claim 14 wherein said first and second wire are bonded directly to printed circuit boards.
- 17. The laser beam projector of claim 12 wherein said range of motion of said pendulum which is not substantially inhibited by said first and second wires is at least 15 arc minutes from a vertical orientation.
- 18. The laser beam projector of claim 12 wherein said device on said pendulum is a laser.
- 19. The laser beam projector of claim 18 wherein said laser emits laser radiation vertically which impinges a rotating pentaprism secured to said stationary structure.
- 20. A method of delivering electrical power from a power source to a laser supported by a gimbal ring in a laser beam projector, comprising the steps of:providing a stationary structure which supports said gimbal ring; providing a laser housing attached to said gimbal; supporting said laser housing on said gimbal ring such that said laser housing remains level when said stationary structure is tilted; bonding at least a first wire across a first gap defined between said stationary structure and said gimbal, said first wire electrically coupled to the power source; bonding at least a second wire across a second gap defined between said gimbal and said laser housing, said second wire electrically coupled to said laser; and electrically coupling said first wire to second wire.
- 21. The method of claim 20 wherein said first and second wires are bonded directly to printed circuit boards.
- 22. The method of claim 20 wherein said first and second wires are made of one of the group consisting of gold and aluminum.
