Claims
- 1. An image capture method for identifying and selecting specific target cells based upon predetermined selection criteria in a tissue section having a heterogenous population of cells, comprising:
(a) supporting said tissue section on a tissue support under a microscope with an objective for viewing said tissue section; (b) scanning said tissue section with a video camera to produce a mosaic of video images representing said tissue section; (c) optionally displaying said mosaic of video images; (d) analyzing each frame of said mosaic of video images based upon said predetermined target cell selection criteria; and (e) selecting target cells based upon said predetermined target cell selection criteria.
- 2. A method according to claim 1, wherein said analysis and selection are performed automatically by a computer.
- 3. An apparatus for treating specific target cells in a heterogenous cell population in a tissue section, said apparatus comprising:
(a) a microscope with an objective for viewing a tissue section having a heterogenous population of cells fused on a tissue support; (b) a stage for supporting said tissue support; (c) a stage drive which provides relative movement between said tissue support and said objective and generates an address signal within an x-y coordinate plane for each incremental location; (d) a video camera mounted on said microscope which generates a video image of said tissue section at each selected incremental location; (e) a computer which analyzes each image of said tissue section and automatically selects target cells based upon predetermined criteria; and (f) a laser for treating said specific target cells selected by said computer.
