Claims
- 1. Apparatus for cutting a worksheet, comprising:a cutting head; a housing; a laser generator provided within said housing; at least one mirror within said housing for directing the direction of travel of a laser beam generated from said laser generator; an optical output coupler in said housing through which said laser beam is output from said housing to said cutting head; lens means positioned relative to said optical output coupler in said housing; and a drive motor drivingly coupled to said lens means for positioning said lens means along the axis of said laser beam relative to said optical output coupler to maintain constant density and power for said laser beam, said drive motor receiving feedback instructions from said cuffing head for positioning said lens means relative to said optical output coupler to maintain the focus of the laser beam output from said cutting head.
- 2. Apparatus of claim 1, wherein said drive motor moves said lens means relative to said optical output coupler for changing the focal point of said laser beam depending on the type of material to be cut by said laser beam.
- 3. Apparatus of claim 1, wherein said drive motor moves said lens means relative to said optical output coupler for changing the focal point of said laser beam in accordance to the length of said predetermined distance.
- 4. Apparatus of claim 1, wherein said drive motor moves said lens means relative to said optical output coupler while a worksheet is being pierced by said laser beam for ensuring said laser beam continues to have the optimal energy for piercing said worksheet.
- 5. Apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:processing means for controlling the movement of said drive motor; and at least one memory store for storing start and stop focal movements during piercing so that said lens means can be repositioned relative to said optical output coupler each time said laser beam reaches a stop point for adjusting the focal point of said laser beam during piercing.
- 6. Apparatus of claim 1, wherein said optical output coupler comprises a lens; andwherein said lens means comprises a telescopic lens positioned and movable relative to said optical output coupler for maintaining a constant focal position for said laser beam.
- 7. Apparatus of claim 1, wherein said optical output coupler comprises a lens; andwherein said lens means comprises telescopic mirror lenses positioned and movable relative to said optical output coupler for maintaining a constant focal position for said laser beam.
- 8. Apparatus for generating a laser beam to pierce a worksheet, comprising:a laser generator; a plurality of mirrors for directing the direction of travel of a laser beam generated from said laser generator to a cutting head; an optical output coupler through which said laser beam is output a predetermined distance; and lens means positioned relative to said optical output coupler, said lens means movable along the axis of said laser beam relative to said optical output coupler for maintaining the density and power for said laser beam constant for at least said predetermined distance in accordance to a feedback signal from said cutting head for piercing said worksheet.
- 9. Apparatus of claim 8, further comprising:drive means in receipt of said feedback signal for moving said lens means relative to said optical output coupler for changing the focal point of said laser beam depending on the type of material to be cut by said laser beam.
- 10. Apparatus of claim 8, further comprising:drive means in receipt of said feedback signal for moving said lens means relative to said optical output coupler for changing the focal point of said laser beam in accordance to the length of said predetermined distance.
- 11. Apparatus of claim 8, further comprising:drive means in receipt of said feedback signal for moving said lens means relative to said optical output coupler while said worksheet is being pierced by said laser beam for ensuring said laser beam continues to have the maximum energy for piercing said worksheet.
- 12. Apparatus of claim 8, further comprising:processing means for controlling the movement of said lens means; and at least one memory store for storing start and stop focal movements during piercing so that said lens means can be repositioned relative to said optical output coupler each time said laser beam reaches a stop point for adjusting the focal point of said laser beam during piercing.
- 13. Apparatus of claim 8, wherein said optical output coupler comprises a lens; andwherein said lens means comprises a telescopic lens positioned and movable relative to said optical output coupler for maintaining a constant focal position for said laser beam.
- 14. Apparatus of claim 8, wherein said optical output coupler comprises a lens; andwherein said lens means comprises telescopic mirror lenses positioned and movable relative to said optical output coupler for maintaining a constant focal position for said laser beam.
- 15. A laser cutting system, comprising:a laser generator for outputting a laser beam; a plurality of mirrors for directing the travel of said laser beam; an optical output coupler through which said laser beam passes; a cutting head for receiving and outputting said laser beam to cut a worksheet; a telescopic lens movable along at least the direction of travel of said laser beam output from said optical output coupler; and a motor for moving said lens relative to said optical output coupler to maintain a requisite power for said laser beam output from said laser head to cut said worksheet.
- 16. The laser cutting system of claim 15, further comprising:a processor for instructing said motor to move said lens relative to said optical output coupler to focus said laser beam, said processor relying on feedback data from said cutting head for outputting its instructions to said motor.
- 17. The laser cutting system of claim 15, wherein said optical output coupler comprises a lens; andwherein said telescopic lens is positioned and movable relative to said optical output coupler for maintaining a constant focal position for said laser beam.
- 18. The laser cutting system of claim 16, wherein said motor moves said telescopic lens relative to said optical output coupler for changing the focal point of said laser beam depending on the type of material to be cut by said laser beam.
