Claims
- 1. A process for assembling a disk cartridge, comprising the steps of:
- positioning a first shell half of said disk cartridge proximate a second shell half of said disk cartridge so that the first shell half and the second shell half are in abutment contact with each other at a first weld site; and
- directing an energy beam at the first weld site until a portion of the first shell half and a portion of the second shell half fuse thereby fixing the first shell half to the second shell half.
- 2. The process as recited in claim 1, comprising the further steps of:
- abutting the first shell half and the second shell half at a second weld site; and
- directing an energy beam at the second weld site until a portion of the first shell half and a portion of the second shell half fuse at the second weld site.
- 3. The process as recited in claim 1, wherein at least one of the first shell half and the bottom shell half has a tab proximate the weld site.
- 4. The process as recited in claim 1, comprising the further steps of:
- setting said first and second shell halves in a welding fixture having a top and a bottom; and wherein said positioning step comprises the steps of:
- setting the first shell half in the fixture bottom;
- setting the second shell half over the first shell half so that edges of said first and second shell halves abut; and
- clamping the fixture top onto the fixture bottom to retain the positioning of the first and second shell halves during welding.
- 5. The process as recited in claim 4, wherein the fixture top and the fixture bottom each comprises a spring loader plunger and wherein the spring loaded plunger applies a spring load to the identified weld site when the top shell half and the bottom shell half are in abutment contact with each other.
- 6. The process as recited in claim 1, wherein the energy beam is a laser beam.
- 7. A disk cartridge prepared by the process recited in claim 1.
