Claims
- 1. A lid member for an original cylindrical container of a pourable component, the lid member being usable with a system for dispensing the pourable component from its original cylindrical container into a receptacle according to a formula to form a mixture of pourable components, the lid member comprising:a base portion adapted to releasably engage an open top of a cylindrical side wall of the original cylindrical container of the pourable component; a pour spout on the base portion through which the pourable component can be dispensed from its original cylindrical container; a cover element for the pour spout, the cover element being movably mounted to the base portion such that the cover element is movable between a closed state, wherein the cover element covers the pour spout and the pourable component is prevented from being dispensed from the original cylindrical container, and an opened state, wherein the pour spout is uncovered and the pourable component can be dispensed from its original cylindrical container through the pour spout into the receptacle upon tilting of the original cylindrical container, the cover element including: operating means engageable with and disengageable from an operating device of the pourable component dispensing system upon mounting and dismounting of the lid member and original cylindrical container to and from the pourable component dispensing system, the operating means when engaged with the operating device allowing the operating device of the pourable component dispensing system to move the cover element between its closed and opened states according to the formula to form the mixture of pourable components; and vent means defined by a vent passage passing through the base portion of the lid member, the vent passage having a first open end communicating with an interior region of the original cylindrical container and a second open end communicating with atmosphere, wherein the second open end of the vent passage is radially exterior to the side wall of the original cylindrical container to prevent the pourable component from flowing out of the vent passage through the second open end upon tilting of the original cylindrical container to dispense the pourable component from the pour spout in the opened state of the cover element.
- 2. The lid member of claim 1 wherein the original cylindrical container has a central axis and wherein the vent passage extends substantially perpendicular to and radially from the central axis, such that the second open end of the vent passage is above a fluid level of the pourable component upon tilting of the original cylindrical container to dispense the pourable component from the pour spout in the opened state of the cover element.
- 3. The lid member of claim 2, and further including:a plug element engageable with the vent passage for sealing the vent passage to prevent contaminants from entering the interior region of the original cylindrical container through the vent passage.
- 4. The lid member of claim 3 wherein the plug element is engageable with the second open end of the vent passage.
- 5. The lid member of claim 4 wherein the plug element is movably mounted to the base portion such that the plug element is movable between a sealed position, wherein the plug element is engaged with the second open end of the vent passage, and an unsealed position, wherein the plug element is disengaged from the second open end of the vent passage.
- 6. The lid member of claim 5 wherein the plug element is linearly movable between the sealed and the unsealed positions.
- 7. The lid member of claim 5 wherein the second open end of the vent passage is cone shaped and wherein the plug element has a cone shaped end for engaging the cone shaped second open end.
- 8. The lid member of claim 5, and further including:a manually operable actuator for the cover element, the actuator being coupled to the cover element; and means for pivotally mounting the actuator to the base portion, such that manually pivoting the actuator moves the cover element between its closed and opened states.
- 9. The lid member of claim 8 wherein the actuator is coupled to the plug element for moving the plug element between the sealed and unsealed positions.
- 10. The lid member of claim 9 wherein a wire loop element couples the plug element to the actuator.
- 11. The lid member of claim 8 wherein a wire loop member couples the cover element to the actuator.
- 12. The lid member of claim 1, and further including:alignment means on the base portion releasably engageable by an engaging mechanism of the pourable component dispensing system for aligning the original container on the dispensing system so that the operating device is in engagement with the operating means on the cover element.
- 13. The lid member of claim 12 wherein the alignment means is positioned on the pour spout of the base portion.
- 14. The lid member of claim 13 wherein the alignment means is defined by an alignment slot formed in the base portion and releasably engageable with the engaging mechanism of the dispensing system.
- 15. The lid member of claim 1, and further including:latch means on the base portion releasably engageable by an engaging mechanism of the pourable component dispensing system for securing the original container on the dispensing system so that the operating device is in engagement with the operating means of the cover element.
- 16. The lid member of claim 15 wherein the latch means includes a pair of spaced latch lugs releasably engageable with the engaging mechanism of the dispensing system.
- 17. The lid member of claim 16, and further including:a handle member on the base portion, the handle member being defined by a first portion that extends generally perpendicular to the side wall of the original cylindrical container, and a second portion that extends substantially perpendicular to the first portion and generally parallel to the side wall of the original cylindrical container.
- 18. The lid member of claim 17 wherein the pair of spaced latch lugs are positioned at an intersection of the first and second portions of the handle member.
- 19. The lid member of claim 17 wherein the pair of spaced latch lugs are positioned along the first portion of the handle member.
- 20. The lid member of claim 1, and further including:alignment means on a first portion of the base portion releasably engageable by a first engaging mechanism of the pourable component dispensing system for aligning the original container on the dispensing system so that the operating device is in engagement with the operating means on the cover element; and latch means on a second portion of the base portion spaced from the first portion, the latch means being releasably engageable by a second engaging mechanism of the pourable component dispensing system for securing the original container on the dispensing system so that the operating device can move the cover element between its closed and opened states.
- 21. The lid member of claim 20 wherein the alignment means is defined by an alignment slot formed in the base portion and releasably engageable with the first engaging mechanism of the dispensing system.
- 22. The lid member of claim 21 wherein the latch means includes a pair of spaced latch lugs releasably engageable with the second engaging mechanism of the dispensing system.
- 23. The lid member of claim 1 wherein the operating means is slot formed in the cover element, the slot being releasably engageable with the operating device of the dispensing system.
- 24. The lid member of claim 23, and further including:a manually operable actuator for the cover element, the actuator being coupled to the cover element via a wire loop member; and means for pivotally mounting the actuator to the base portion, such that manually pivoting the actuator moves the cover element between its closed and opened states.
- 25. The lid member of claim 1, and further including:means on the base portion for releasably engaging a circumferential lip extending about the open top of the original container to releasably secure the lid member to the original container.
- 26. The lid member of claim 25 wherein the means on the base portion for releasably engaging a circumferential lip of the original container includes:a pair of spaced pivotable cam lock mechanisms.
- 27. The lid member of claim 1, and further including:means on the base portion for stirring the pourable component within the original container.
- 28. The lid member of claim 1 wherein the pourable component is a liquid paint component, the receptacle is a paint receptacle, the formula is a paint formula, and the mixture of pourable components is a liquid paint mixture.
- 29. A lid member for an original container of a pourable component, the lid member being usable with a system for dispensing the pourable component from its original container into a receptacle according to a formula to form a mixture of pourable components, the lid member comprising:a base portion adapted to releasably engage an open top of the original container of the pourable component; a pour spout on the base portion through which the pourable component can be dispensed from its original container; a handle member on the base portion for manipulating the original container; alignment means on a pour spout of the base portion releasably engageable by a first engaging mechanism of the pourable component dispensing system for aligning the original container on the dispensing system; and latch means on the handle member of the base portion releasably engageable by a second engaging mechanism of the pourable component dispensing system for securing the original container on the dispensing system, so that the pourable component can be dispensed from its original container, through the pour spout and into the receptacle according to the formula, to form the mixture of pourable components.
- 30. The lid member of claim 29 wherein the alignment means is defined by an alignment slot formed in the base portion and releasably engageable with the first engaging mechanism of the dispensing system.
- 31. The lid member of claim 30 wherein the latch means includes a pair of spaced latch lugs releasably engageable with the second engaging mechanism of the dispensing system.
- 32. The lid member of claim 31 wherein the handle member is defined by a first portion that extends generally perpendicular to the side wall of the original cylindrical container, and a second portion that extends substantially perpendicular to the first portion and generally parallel to the side wall of the original cylindrical container.
- 33. The lid member of claim 32 wherein the pair of spaced latch lugs are positioned at an intersection of the first and second portions of the handle member.
- 34. The lid member of claim 32 wherein the pair of spaced latch lugs are positioned along the first portion of the handle member.
- 35. The lid member of claim 29, and further including:a cover element for the pour spout; means for movably securing the cover element to the base portion such that the cover element is movable between a closed state, wherein the cover element covers the pour spout and the pourable component is prevented from being dispensed from the original container, and an opened state, wherein the pour spout is uncovered and the pourable component can be dispensed from its original container through the pour spout and into the receptacle; and operating means on the cover element releasably engageable by an operating device of the pourable component dispensing system that moves the cover element between its closed and opened states according to the formula to form the mixture of pourable components.
- 36. The lid member of claim 29 wherein the pourable component is a liquid paint component, the receptacle is a paint receptacle, the formula is a paint formula, and the mixture of pourable components is a liquid paint mixture.
- 37. A lid member for an original cylindrical container of a pourable component, the lid member being usable with a system for dispensing the pourable component from its original cylindrical container into a receptacle according to a formula to form a mixture of pourable components, the lid member comprising:a base portion adapted to releasably engage an open top of a cylindrical side wall of the original cylindrical container of the pourable component; a pour spout on the base portion through which the pourable component can be dispensed from its original cylindrical container; a cover element for the pour spout, the cover element being movably mounted to the base portion such that the cover element is movable between a closed state, wherein the cover element covers the pour spout and the pourable component is prevented from being dispensed from the original cylindrical container, and an opened state, wherein the pour spout is uncovered and the pourable component can be dispensed from its original cylindrical container through the pour spout into the receptacle upon tilting of the original cylindrical container; vent means defined by a vent passage passing through the base portion of the lid member, the vent passage having a first open end communicating with an interior region of the original cylindrical container and a second open end communicating with atmosphere, wherein the second open end of the vent passage is radially exterior to the side wall of the original cylindrical container to prevent the pourable component from flowing out of the vent passage through the second open end upon tilting of the original cylindrical container to dispense the pourable component from the pour spout in the opened state of the cover element; and a plug element engageable with the vent passage for sealing the vent passage to prevent contaminants from entering the interior region of the original cylindrical container through the vent passage, wherein the plug element is linearly movably mounted to the base portion such that the plug element is linearly movable between a sealed position, wherein the plug element is engaged with the vent passage, and an unsealed position, wherein the plug element is disengaged from the vent passage.
