- b) from about 0.001% to 0.08% by weight of active protease;
- c) from 0% to about 15% by weight of detergency builder;
- d) from about 1% to about 20% of a suds booster selected from the group consisting of betaines, ethylene oxide condensates, hydroxy-free fatty acid amides, amine oxide semi-polar nonionics, sultaines, cationic surfactants and mixtures thereof; and
- e) from about 20% to about 90% water wherein said manual dishwashing composition is used for hand cleansing of dishware;
- said composition having a pH between about 4 to about 11.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein the pH is between about 6 and about 10.
- 3. A composition according to claim 1 wherein the protease is selected from the group consisting of serine proteolytic enzyme obtained from Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus licheniformis or mixtures thereof.
- 4. A composition according to claim 3 further comprising from about 0001% to 10% of an enzyme stabilizing system.
- 5. A composition according to claim 1 wherein water comprises less than 37.5% of the composition.
- 6. A composition according to claim 1 further comprising from about 0.01% to 4% magnesium or calcium ions or mixtures thereof.
- 7. A composition according to claim 6 wherein the magnesium or calcium ions are added as a salt selected from the group consisting of hydroxide, oxide, chloride, formate, acetate, and mixtures thereof.
- 8. A light duty liquid or gel manual dishwashing detergent composition which provides especially good grease removal and sudsing performance along with mildness benefits to the skin when used in connection with manual dishwashing operations, which composition comprises:
- a) from about 20% to about 60% of an anionic surfactant selected from C.sub.8-22 alkyl ether sulfates; C.sub.9-15 alkyl benzene sulfonates; C.sub.8-22 parafin sulfonates; and combinations of these anionic surfactants;
- b) from about 0.001% to 0.08% by weight of active protease;

- e) from about 0.01% to about 11% of a nonionic surfactant selected from polyhydroxy fatty acid amides, nonionic fatty alkylpolyglycosides, condensation products of aliphatic alcohols with from 1 to 25 moles of ethylene oxide, and combinations of said nonionics;
- f) from about 0.0001% to about 10% of an enzyme stabilizing system wherein said manual dishwashing composition is used for hand cleansing of dishware;
- said composition having a pH between about 4 to about 11.
- 9. A composition according to claim 8 wherein:
- a) the anionic surfactant comprises from about 27% to 34% of the composition;
- b) the suds booster comprises from about 2% to 15% of the composition; and
- c) the nonionic surfactant comprises less than 6.5% of the composition.
- 10. A composition according to claim 9 wherein the protease is selected from the group consisting of serine proteolytic enzyme obtained from Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus licheniformis or mixtures thereof.
- 11. A composition according to claim 8 further comprising from about 0.01% to 4% magnesium or calcium ions or mixtures thereof.
