Aircraft, especially crew work areas of aircraft, are space constrained. All of the available space is generally highly utilized with little free space. Furthermore, the work areas are busy and utilitarian. There are few available features that work as stabilizing hand holds, few features for temporarily storing coats, and few features for illuminating the work areas apart from cabin lights which are often dimmed during flight.
In one aspect, embodiments of the inventive concepts disclosed herein are directed to an illuminated handle mounted to a surface of a crew work area. The illuminated portion is disposed on an interior surface of the illuminated handle. A portion of the illuminated handle is comprised of single piece milled aluminium structure integrated into work area stowage compartments, disposed between two stowage compartments, such that the illuminated portion illuminated the stowage compartments and their contents when opened.
In a further aspect, the illuminated handle includes an illuminated coat hook protrusion extending from a top portion of the illuminated handle. The illuminated portion of the illuminated coat hook is disposed on an interior surface to further illuminate the stowage compartments and indicate the location of the illuminated coat hook, while the hook extension of the milled aluminium structure prevents the illuminated portion from directly illuminating a crew member's face and potentially blinding the crew member momentarily.

The inner housing 1606 generally conforms to the shape and size of the structural portion 1002 at the hook portion 1010.
