Claims
- 1. A pallet comprising parallel slats and parallel vertical risers, said slats and risers extending normally to one another in plan view, and all being made from composite plate material, said plate material having an axis of length, and comprising:
- an axially extending corrugation having an undulating shape including crests and troughs;
- a reinforcement sheet enclosing said corrugation, a plurality of adjacent crests of said corrugation being attached directly to said reinforcement sheet;
- buttress material filing said troughs and being bonded to said corrugation and to said reinforcement sheet, whereby to form a unitary composite plate; and
- a skin on said reinforcement sheet.
- 2. A pallet according to claim 1 in which said corrugation and reinforcement sheet are porous, said buttress material penetrating both of them.
- 3. A pallet according to claim 2 in which said buttress material is foamed-in-place.
- 4. A pallet according to claim 1 in which said risers and said slats are all formed from planks having the same cross-section, said risers being formed by bonding a plurality of lengths of said plank together to provide an increased riser cross-section.
- 5. A pallet according to claim 1 in which a fiber strand is placed inside a plurality of said crests which are not attached to said sheet to draw said last-named crests closer to said sheet, whereby to make the corrugations more orderly.
- 6. A plate-like material of construction having substantial bearing strength, bending strength, and rigidity, a top surface, a bottom surface, nominal dimensions of length and width, said top and bottom surfaces being parallel and spaced apart from one another, and bounded by peripheral edges, said material of construction comprising:
- a top reinforcement sheet forming said top surface;
- a bottom reinforcement sheet forming said bottom surface;
- a linearly-extending corrugation having a laterally undulating shape including crests and troughs, crests adjacent to one of said sheets being directly adhered to said sheet at laterally spaced apart linearly extending locations, forming regions between said corrugations and said reinforcement sheets;
- buttress material foamed in place between said reinforcement sheets fully fitting said regions between said sheets and said corrugation, and bonded both to said corrugation and to both of said reinforcement sheets, said crests adjacent to the other of said sheets closely approaching the same whereby to form a solid unitary plate, and
- a skin layer on said reinforcement sheets forming a cover for said material.
- 7. A material of construction according to claim 6 in which said corrugation and reinforcement sheets are porous, said buttress material penetrating both of them.
- 8. A material of construction according to claim 7 in which said skin is impermeable.
- 9. A material of construction according to claim 8 in which said reinforcement sheets are formed from a single sheet wrapped around the buttress material and corrugation.
- 10. A material of construction according to claim 7 in which, fibers with substantial tensile strength are incorporated into said skin layer.
- 11. A material of construction according to claim 10 in which said fibers are laid generally parallel to said corrugation.
- 12. A material of construction according to claim 10 in which said fibers are randomly laid.
- 13. A material of construction according to claim 10 in which said fibers for a woven cloth.
- 14. A material of construction according to claim 6 in which a fiber strand is placed inside the crests of said other of said sheets to draw the last-named crests closer to said other sheet, whereby to make said corrugation more orderly.
