Claims
- 1. A process for preparing a compound represented by the formula (I): ##STR109## in which R.sup.1 is a lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkyl-lower alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group which is optionally substituted;
- R.sup.2 is a group represented by the formula: --COOR': (wherein R' is a lower alkyl or aralkyl which is optionally substituted), lower alkyl, or halogenated lower alkyl, or,
- R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, together with adjacent carbonyl group, form a cyclohexanone ring represented by the formula: ##STR110## R.sup.3 is a phenyl group optionally being substituted; and, ring A is a benzene nucleus which is optionally substituted, or a heterocyclic ring containing S or O optionally being substituted; which process comprises reacting a lactone compound represented by the formula (VI): ##STR111## in which R.sup.3 and ring A are as defined above, with a compound of a formula (VIII): ##STR112## in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are as defined above in the presence of a base, and then subjecting the resulting compound to dehydration.
- 2. The process of claim 1 for preparing a compound represented by the formula (I'): ##STR113## in which R.sup.1 is lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkyl-lower alkyl, or aralkyl;
- each of R.sup.12 and R.sup.13 is lower alkoxy or R.sup.12 and R.sup.13 are combined together to form an alkylenedioxy;
- R.sup.14 is lower alkoxy or hydrogen;
- each of R.sup.15 and R.sup.16 is lower alkyl; and `R.sup.17 is lower alkyl;
- which process comprises reacting a lactone compound represented by the formula (VI'): ##STR114## in which R.sup.12, R.sup.13, R.sup.14, R.sup.15, and R.sup.16 are as defined above, with a compound of a formula (VII'): ##STR115## in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.17 are as defined above in the presence of a base, and then subjecting the resulting compound to dehydration.
- 3. The process of claim 2 in which R.sup.1 is C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl, C.sub.5 to C.sub.7 cycloalkyl, or C.sub.5 to C.sub.7 cycloalkyl-C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl.
