Claims
- 1. Linerless label stock, comprising:
- a substrate having first and second faces, wherein said substrate is insensitive to thermal effects;
- a pressure sensitive adhesive;
- a tie coat facilitating adherence of said pressure sensitive adhesive to said first face of said substrate, said tie coat adhering to both said substrate first face and said pressure sensitive adhesive;
- a release coat, of material that has a low adherence to said pressure sensitive adhesive, on said second face of said substrate, and
- wherein the label stock has a spiral roll configuration such that the pressure sensitive adhesive adheres to the release coat to maintain the roll configuration, and wherein one or more labels of the stock may be peeled off the roll at an outer end of the roll.
- 2. Stock as recited in claim 1 in a continuous, roll configuration, portions of said pressure sensitive adhesive rolled on top of portions of said release coating, with said release coating on the outside of the roll.
- 3. Stock as recited in claim 2 wherein said tie coating comprises a dispersion of a pigment with a binder.
- 4. Stock as recited in claim 3 wherein the pigment is silica.
- 5. Stock as recited in claim 4 wherein the binder is polyvinyl alcohol.
- 6. Stock as recited in claim 1 wherein said substrate is cut into individual quadrate labels having a width and length each less than one foot, the side edge of the substrate forming the side edges of the labels.
- 7. Stock as recited in claim 1 consisting essentially of said substrate, adhesive, tie coat, and release coat.
- 8. Stock as recited in claim 1 including priming on said substrate second face and/or said substrate.
- 9. Stock as recited in claim 1 wherein said tie coating comprises a dispersion of a pigment with a binder.
- 10. Stock as recited in claim 9 wherein the pigment is silica.
- 11. Stock as recited in claim 9 wherein the binder is polyvinyl alcohol.
- 12. Linerless label stock, comprising:
- a rolled substrate having a first inward face and a second outward face, wherein said substrate is insensitive to thermal variations;
- a pressure sensitive adhesive;
- a tie coat enhancing adherence of said pressure sensitive adhesive to said first face of said substrate, said tie coat adhering to both said substrate first face and said pressure sensitive adhesive; and
- a release coat, of material that has a low adherence to said pressure sensitive adhesive, in continuous form over said second face of said substrate, to prevent the pressure sensitive adhesive from sticking to the second face of the substrate if brought into contact therewith, and wherein said release coat is releasably attached to the pressure sensitive adhesive of the rolled substrate.
- 13. Stock as recited in claim 12 in a continuous, roll configuration, portions of said pressure sensitive adhesive rolled on top of portions of said release coating, with said release coating on the outside of the roll.
- 14. Stock as recited in claim 12 wherein said tie coating comprises a dispersion of a pigment with a binder.
- 15. Stock as recited in claim 14 wherein the pigment is silica.
- 16. Stock as recited in claim 15 wherein the binder is polyvinyl alcohol.
- 17. Stock as recited in claim 12 wherein said substrate is a first substrate and further comprising a second substrate adhesively attached to the first substrate.
- 18. Stock as recited in claim 12, consisting essentially of said substrate, adhesive, tie coat, and release coat.
- 19. A linerless label stock as in claim 1 wherein the substrate consists of bond paper, latex-impregnated paper, vinyl, or polyester.
- 20. A linerless label stock as in claim 12 wherein the substrate consists of bond paper, latex-impregnated paper, vinyl, or polyester.
