Claims
- 1. A method for carrying out liposuction, including:
providing a single cannula shaft for at least loosening target material, providing means for oscillating a distal end of the 5 shaft, and providing means for suctioning material at least loosened by the oscillating shaft.
- 2. The method of claim 1, additionally including providing means for directing fluid to the distal end of the shaft.
- 3. The method of claim 1, additionally including providing means for retaining a proximal end of the shaft.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein providing means for oscillating the distal end of the shaft is carried out by providing a combination of different types of energy sources.
- 5. The method of claim 4, wherein the different types of energy sources include a selection of ultrasonic, vacuum, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic or combinations thereof.
- 6. The method of claim 4, wherein one of the different types of energy sources is derived from negative pressure.
- 7. The method of claim 1, wherein providing means for suctioning material is carried out by providing the distal end of the shaft with an opening selected from the group consisting of a series of scalloped shaped edges and geometric edges.
- 8. The method of claim 1, additionally including providing a handpiece for retaining a proximal end of the shaft.
- 9. The method of claim 8, wherein providing means for oscillating the distal end of the shaft is carried out by providing a motor within the handpiece.
- 10. The method of claim 9, wherein providing means for oscillating the distal end of the shaft additionally including providing a vacuum source, providing a shuttle valve between the vacuum source and the motor, and providing means whereby the motor is oscillated by the vacuum source via the shuttle valve.
- 11. The method of claim 1, wherein providing means for oscillating the distal end of the shaft is carried out by providing a combination of two different energy sources for oscillating the distal end of the shaft.
- 12. The method of claim 11, wherein the two different energy sources comprises an ultrasonic source and a vacuum source.
- 13. The method of claim 8, additionally including interconnecting the shaft with the handpiece by providing a swan neck member between the handpiece and the shaft.
- 14. The method of claim 1, additionally including providing a temperature sensor at the tip for feedback control for cooling fluid/gas necessary to be delivered to the tip, and providing a cooling fluid/gas supply controlled by the feedback control.
