Claims
- 1. A method for producing a liquid crystal composite layer of a polymer dispersion, which comprises uniformly mixing;
- (a) a liquid crystal material comprising compounds selected from the group consisting of compounds represented by formulae (1) and (2), wherein the total amount of compound of formula (1) and formula (2) is from 50-100 percent by weight based on the total weight of the liquid crystalline material, and
- with
- (b) a radical photopolymerizable resin material having an average solubility parameter (SP) value of 8-11 and an average molecular weight (Mn) of 100-1000, selected from the group consisting of monofunctional monomers, polyfunctional monomers and oligomers thereof and the content of monofunctional monomers is within the range of 60-98% by weight of the total radical photopolymerizable resin material,
- followed by phase separation of the liquid crystal material by photopolymerization of the photopolymerizable resin material, wherein formula (1) is: ##STR38## wherein A.sub.1 and A.sub.2 each represent independently a benzene ring, cyclohexane ring, pyrimidine ring or trans-1,3-dioxane ring;
- X.sub.1, X.sub.2, X.sub.3, X.sub.4, X.sub.5 and X.sub.6 each independently represent H, F or Cl;
- Z.sub.1 and Z.sub.2 each independently represent a single bond, --CH.sub.2 --, --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --, --CH.dbd.CH--, --C.tbd.C--, --COO-- or --OCO--;
- Q represents a single bond, --CH.sub.2 --, --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --, --CF.sub.2 --, --OCF.sub.2 --, --C.sub.2 F.sub.4 --, --CCl.sub.2 -- or --C.sub.2 Cl.sub.4 --;
- Y represents H, F or Cl;
- R represents C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 --O--, C.sub.1 H.sub.2n+1 --, or C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 CH.dbd.CH--, in which n is an integer of 2-10;
- m represents 0, 1 or 2;
- and formula (2) is: ##STR39## in which B and C represent respectively C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 --, C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 O--, C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 CH.dbd.CH-- or C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 --C.sub.6 H.sub.10 -- (in which n is an integer of 2-10), and L is H or F.
- 2. A method of producing a liquid crystal composite layer as in claim 1, in which the radical photopolymerizable resin material comprises at least a polymerizable fluorinated resin material.
- 3. A method as in claim 1, wherein the radical photopolymerizable resin material is selected from monofunctional monomers, polyfunctional monomers and oligomers thereof, and the content of the monofunctional monomers is within the range of 60-98% by weight based on the total weight of radical photopolymerizable resin material.
- 4. A method as in claim 1 wherein a radical photopolymerizable resin material of 100 parts by weight is mixed with the liquid crystal material of 300-500 parts by weight.
