Claims
- 1. A liquid crystal display device, comprising:
a first substrate divided into a pixel portion and a peripheral circuit portion; a plurality of pixel electrodes within the pixel portion; a metal interconnecting layer providing metal interconnects in a first pattern over the pixel electrodes at least in the pixel portion, the metal interconnecting layer held to a second potential; an insulating layer over the metal interconnecting layer; a metallic light shielding layer having a second pattern at least within the pixel portion which is inverse to the first pattern, the metallic light shielding layer being held to a first potential at least within the pixel portion; a second substrate opposite the first substrate with a predetermined space therebetween; and a liquid crystal layer in the predetermined space, wherein the metallic light shielding layer within the peripheral circuit portion is left to float relative to the first and second potentials.
- 2. A liquid crystal projector comprising:
a liquid crystal panel comprising:
a first substrate divided into a pixel portion having a plurality of pixel electrodes and a peripheral circuit portion disposed around the pixel portion; a metal interconnecting layer provided in the peripheral circuit portion and set to a second potential, the metal interconnecting layer providing metal interconnects in a first pattern on the pixel electrodes at least in the pixel portion; an insulating layer over the metal interconnecting layer; a metal light shielding layer which is selectively provided in a second pattern inverse to that of the first pattern of the metal interconnecting layer in each of the pixel portion and the peripheral circuit portion, the metal shielding layer set to a first potential in a region corresponding to the pixel portion and set to the second potential in a region corresponding to the peripheral circuit portion; a second substrate disposed opposite to the first substrate with a predetermined space therebetween and having a counter electrode set to the first potential; a liquid crystal layer held between the first and second substrates; and optical means for applying light to the liquid crystal panel and enlarging and projecting transmitted light from the liquid crystal panel, wherein the light shielding layer within the peripheral circuit portion is left to float relative to the first and second potentials.
