Claims
- 1. A liquid crystal display device comprising;
- a liquid crystal composition layer having twistable liquid crystal molecules;
- a first substrate and a second substrate having said liquid crystal composition layer disposed therebetween; and
- a video signal line formed on a face of said first substrate, at least one pixel electrode and at least one counter electrode formed on one of said first substrate and said second substrate for generating an electric field having a component predominately in parallel with said one of said first substrate and said second substrate;
- wherein a spacing between said pixel electrode and said counter electrode arranged to oppose each other is larger than a width of at least said pixel electrode and smaller than a spacing between said pixel electrode and said video signal line.
- 2. A liquid crystal display device as set forth in claim 1, wherein the spacing between said pixel electrode and said counter electrode is larger than the width of each of said pixel electrode and said counter electrode.
- 3. A liquid crystal display device as set forth in claim 1, further comprising:
- polarizing plates arranged on individual surfaces of said first substrate and said second substrate such that polarizing axes thereof intersect at a right angle with each other.
- 4. A liquid crystal display device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said liquid crystal composition layer has a dielectric anisotropy of at least 7.3 in an absolute value.
- 5. A liquid crystal display device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said liquid crystal composition layer has a positive dielectric anisotropy and a retardation more than 0.25 and less than 0.32.
- 6. A liquid crystal display device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said liquid crystal composition layer has a negative dielectric anisotropy and a retardation more than 0.25 and less than 0.32.
- 7. A liquid crystal display device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said liquid crystal composition layer has a positive dielectric anisotropy and a retardation more than 0.07 and less than 0.09.
- 8. A liquid crystal display device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said liquid crystal composition layer has a negative dielectric anisotropy and a retardation more than 0.04 and less than 0.06.
- 9. A liquid crystal display device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said pixel is arranged in the matrix shape.
- 10. A liquid crystal display device as set forth in claim 9, wherein said matrix shape are active matrixes.
- 11. A liquid crystal display device as set forth in claim 10, wherein said active matrix is a thin film transistor matrix.
