Claims
- 1. A liquid crystal display device having a plurality of switching elements, comprising:a pair of substrates; a liquid crystal layer interposed between said pair of substrates; an electrode structure formed on one of said pair of substrates for generating an electric field having a component substantially in parallel with said one of said pair of substrates, said electrode structure including at least one common electrode and at least one pixel electrode; and an organic film formed on at least one of said at least one common electrode and said at least one pixel electrode, said organic film being both an insulating film and an orientation film; wherein said organic film has a thickness of about 2.8 μm.
- 2. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 1, wherein said organic film has a transparency with a transmission factor of at least 90%.
- 3. A liquid crystal display device having a plurality of switching elements, comprising:a pair of substrates; a liquid crystal layer interposed between said pair of substrates; an electrode structure formed on one of said pair of substrates for generating an electric field having a component substantially in parallel with said one of said pair of substrates, said electrode structure including at least one common electrode and at least one pixel electrode; a gate insulating film formed on said at least one common electrode; an insulation layer formed on said gate insulating film; and an orientation film formed on said insulation layer; wherein a sum of thickness of said gate insulating film, said insulation layer and said orientation film is sufficient to enable display by said liquid crystal display device and is no greater than about 2.8 μm.
- 4. A liquid crystal display device as claimed in claim 3, wherein said gate insulating film is formed on said at least one common electrode without being formed on said at least one pixel electrode.
- 5. A liquid crystal display device according to claim 3, wherein said insulation layer formed on said gate insulating film is a passivation layer.
