Abstract
A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal panel having an upper substrate and a lower substrate that face each other with a layer of liquid crystal molecules therebetween, and a liquid powder display panel at a lower surface of the liquid crystal panel for blocking light.

Claims
  • 1. A liquid crystal display device, comprising: a liquid crystal panel having an upper substrate and a lower substrate that face each other with a layer of liquid crystal molecules therebetween; anda liquid powder display panel at a lower surface of the liquid crystal panel for blocking light.
  • 2. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1, further comprising: a first plurality of sub-pixels in the liquid crystal panel; anda second plurality of sub-pixels in the liquid powder display panel, wherein the first plurality of sub-pixels correspond to the second plurality of sub-pixels.
  • 3. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 2, further comprising: a separation film between the second plurality of sub-pixels.
  • 4. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1, wherein the liquid powder display panel includes: an upper plate formed of a transparent material;an upper electrode on the upper plate;a lower plate formed of a transparent material;a lower electrode on the lower plate; andblack particles positioned between the upper and lower plates.
  • 5. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 4, wherein the upper electrode is transparent.
  • 6. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 4, further comprising: a separation film between the upper and lower plates for maintaining a gap between the upper and lower plates.
  • 7. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 6, wherein the separation film has a lattice shape.
  • 8. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 4, wherein the black particles have a faster response speed to an electric field than the liquid crystal molecules.
  • 9. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 4, wherein the black particles have a positive polarity.
  • 10. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1, further comprising: a black matrix on the upper substrate of the liquid crystal panel;a cell area in the liquid crystal panel defined by the black matrix, wherein the cell area corresponds to an opening in the lower electrode.
  • 11. A liquid crystal display device, comprising: a liquid crystal panel having cell areas defined by a black matrix; anda liquid powder display panel at a lower surface of the liquid crystal panel for blocking light, wherein the liquid powder display panel includes first electrodes with openings corresponding to the cell areas.
  • 12. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 11, further comprising a separation film between the first electrodes.
  • 13. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 12, wherein the separation film has a lattice shape.
  • 14. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 11, wherein the liquid powder display panel includes: an upper plate formed of a transparent material;a second electrode on the upper plate;a lower plate formed of a transparent material;the first electrode is on the lower plate; andblack particles positioned between the upper and lower plates.
  • 15. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 14, wherein the second electrode is transparent.
  • 16. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 14, wherein the black particles have a faster response speed to an electric field than the liquid crystal molecules.
  • 17. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 14, wherein the black particles have a positive polarity.
  • 18. The liquid crystal display device, comprising: a liquid crystal panel having an upper substrate and a lower substrate that face each other with a layer of liquid crystal molecules therebetween;a black matrix defining a cell area in the liquid crystal panel;an upper plate formed of a transparent material adhered to the lower substrate;a first electrode on the upper plate;a lower plate formed of a transparent material;a second electrode on the lower plate having an opening corresponding to the cell area;a separation film between the upper and lower plates for maintaining a gap between the upper and lower plates; andblack particles positioned between the upper and lower plates.
  • 19. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 18, wherein the black particles have a faster response speed to an electric field than the liquid crystal molecules.
  • 20. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 18, wherein the black particles have a positive polarity.
