Claims
- 1. A polymerizable mixture comprising:a) at least one achiral polymerizable mesogenic compound having at least one polymerizable functional group, b) at least one chiral polymerizable mesogenic compound having one polymerizable functional group and/or at least one non-polymerizable chiral mesogenic compound, c) an initiator, d) optionally a non-mesogenic polymerizable compound having at least one polymerizable functional group, e) optionally a dye, f) optionally a stabilizer, and g) a surface-active compound.
- 2. A polymerizable mixture comprising of:5 to 85% by weight of at least one achiral polymerizable mesogenic compound having one polymerizable functional group, 0 to 30% by weight of at least one achiral polymerizable mesogenic compound having two or more polymerizable functional groups, 10 to 80% by weight of at least one chiral polymerizable mesogenic compound having one polymerizable functional group, 0.1 to 5% by weight of an initiator, 0 to 10% by weight of a non-polymerizable chiral dopant, 0 to 5% by weight of a dye and optionally, 10 to 1000 ppm of a stabilizer.
- 3. A polymerizable mixture comprising of:0 to 85% by weight of at least one achiral polymerizable mesogenic compound having one polymerizable functional group, 0 to 70% by weight of at least one achiral polymerizable mesogenic compound having two or more polymerizable functional groups, 10 to 80% by weight of at least one chiral polymerizable mesogenic compound having one polymerizable functional group, 3 to 70% by weight of at least one non-mesogenic polymerizable compound having at least one polymerizable functional group, 0.1 to 5% by weight of an initiator, 0 to 10% by weight of a non-polymerizable chiral dopant, 0 to 5% by weight of a dye and optionally, 10 to 1000 ppm of a stabilizer.
- 4. A polymerizable mixture comprising:a1) 5 to 85% by weight of at least one achiral monoreactive compound of formula I, P—(Sp)n—MG—R I wherein P is a polymerizable group, Sp is a spacer group having 1 to 20 C atoms, n is 0 or 1, MG is a nesogenic or mesogenity supporting group, m is 0, 1 or 2, and R is an alkyl radical with up to 25 C atoms which may be unsubstituted, mono- or polysubstituted by halogen or CN, it being also possible for one or more non-adjacent CH2 groups to be replaced, in each case independently from one another, by —O—, —S—, —NH—, —N(CH3)—, —CO—, —COO——OCO—, —OCO—O—, —S—CO—, —CO—S— or —C≡C— in such a manner that oxygen atoms are not linked directly to one another, or alternatively R is halogen, cyano or has independently one of the meanings given for P—(Sp)n—, a2) 2 to 60% by weight of at least one achiral direactive compound of formula I, where R independently has one of the meanings for P—(Sp)n—, b) 10 to 80% by weight of at least one chiral monoreactive compound of formula I, c) 0.1 to 5% by weight of a photoinitiator, d) 0 to 5% by weight of a non-polymerizable chiral dopant, and e) optionally, 10 to 1000 ppm of a stabilizer.
- 5. A polymerizable mixture as claimed in claim 4, wherein in at least one component of the formula I, MG is linked to the spacer group Sp and the organic group R by an ester or ether group or a single bond, this mesogenic group being of formula II—(A1Z1)m—A2—Z2—A3— II whereinA1, A2 and A3 are independently from each other 1,4-phenylene in which one or more CH groups are optionally replaced by N; 1,4-cyclohexylene in which one or two non-adjacent CH2 groups are optionally replaced by O and/or S; 1,4-cyclohexenylene or naphthalene-2,6-diyl; optionally, all of these groups being unsubstituted, mono- or polysubstituted with halogen, cyano or nitro groups or alkyl, alkoxy or alkanoyl groups having 1 to 7 C atoms, wherein one or more H atoms may be substituted by F or Cl, m is 0, 1 or 2, and Z1 and Z2 are each independently —COO—, —OCO—, —CH2CH2—, —OCH2—, —CH2O—, —CH═CH—, —C≡C—, —CH═CH—COO—, —OCO—CH═CH— or a single bond.
- 6. A polymerizable mixture comprising:a1) 15 to 85% by weight of at least two achiral monoreactive compounds of formula I, P—(Sp)n—MG—R I wherein P is a polymerizable group, Sp is a spacer group having 1 to 20 C atoms, n is 0 or 1, MG is a mesogenic or mesogenity supporting group, R is an alkyl radical with up to 25 C atoms which is optionally unsubstituted, mono- or polysubstituted by halogen or CN, also, optionally, one or more non-adjacent CH2 groups being replaced, in each case independently from one another, by —O—, —S—, —NH—, —N(CH3)—, —CO—, —COO——OCO—, —OCO—O—, —S—CO—, —CO—S— or —C≡C— in such a manner that oxygen atoms are not linked directly to one another, or alternatively R is halogen, cyano or has independently one of the meanings given for P—(Sp)n—, b) 10 to 85% by weight of at least one chiral monoreactive compound of formula I, c) 0.1% to 5% by weight of a photoinitiator, d) 0 to 5% by weight of a non-polymerizable chiral dopant and e) optionally, 10 to 1000 ppm of a stabilizer.
- 7. A polymerizable mixture as claimed in claim 6, wherein in at least one component of formula I, MG is linked to the spacer group Sp and the organic group R by an ester or ether group or a single bond, and is of formula II:—(A1Z1)m—A2—Z2—A3— II whereinA1, A2 and A3 are independently from each other 1,4-phenylene in which one or more CH groups are optionally replaced by N; 1,4-cyclohexylene in which one or two non-adjacent CH2 groups are optionally replaced by O and/or S; 1,4-cyclohexenylene or naphthalene-2,6-diyl; optionally, all of these groups to be unsubstituted, mono- or polysubstituted with halogen, cyano or nitro groups or alkyl, alkoxy or alkanoyl groups having 1 to 7 C atoms wherein one or more H atoms may be substituted by F or Cl, m is 0, 1 or 2, and Z1 and Z2 are each independently —COO—, —OCO—, —CH2CH2—, —OCH2—, —CH2O—, —CH═CH—, —C≡C—, —CH═CH—COO—, —OCO—CH═CH— or a single bond.
- 8. A polymerizable mixture comprising:a2) 10 to 85% by weight of at least one achiral direactive compound of formula I, P—(Sp)n—MG—R I wherein P is a polymerizable group, Sp is a spacer group having 1 to 20 C atoms, n is 0 or 1, MG is a mesogenic or mesogenity supporting group, and R is an alkyl radical with up to 25 C atoms optionally unsubstituted, mono- or polysubstituted by halogen or CN, also, optionally, one or more non-adjacent CH2 groups being replaced, in each case independently from one another, by —O—, —S—, —NH—, —N(CH3)—, —CO—, —COO—, —OCO—, —OCO—O—, —S—CO—, —CO—S— or —C≡C— in such a manner that oxygen atoms are not linked directly to one another, or alternatively R is halogen, cyano or has independently one of the meanings given for P—(Sp)n—, b) 10 to 90% by weight of at least one chiral monoreactive compound of formula I, c) 0.1 to 5% by weight of a photoinitiator, d) 0.2 to 3% by weight of a non-polymerizable chiral dopant, e) optionally, 10 to 1000 ppm of a stabilizer, f) 0 to 5% by weight of a chain transfer agent, and g) 0 to 5% by weight of a dye.
- 9. A mixture as claimed in claim 8, wherein, in at least one compound of the formula I, MG is linked to the spacer group Sp and the organic group R by an ester or ether group or a single bond, and is of formula II—(A1Z1)m—A2—Z2—A3— II whereinA1, A2 and A3 are independently from each other 1,4-phenylene in which, optionally, one or more CH groups are replaced by N; 1,4-cyclohexylene in which, optionally, one or two non-adjacent CH2 groups are replaced by O and/or S; 1,4-cyclohexenylene or naphthalene-2,6-diyl; optionally, all of these groups to be unsubstituted, mono- or polysubstituted with halogen, cyano or nitro groups or alkyl, alkoxy or alkanoyl groups having 1 to 7 C atoms wherein one or more H atoms may be substituted by F or Cl, m is 0, 1 or 2, and Z1 and Z2 are each independently —COO—, —OCO—, —CH2CH2—, —OCH2—, —CH2O—, —CH═CH—, —C≡C—, —CH═CH—COO—, —OCO—CH═CH— or a single bond.
- 10. A polymerizable mixture as claimed in claim 8, wherein the component f) is present in an amount of from 0.5 to 5% by weight.
- 11. A polymerizable mixture comprisinga1) 5 to 85% by weight of at least one achiral monoreactive compound of formula I, P—(Sp)n—MG—R I wherein P is a polymerizable group, Sp is a spacer group having 1 to 20 C atoms, n is 0 or 1, MG is a mesogenic or mesogenity supporting group, R is an alkyl radical with up to 25 C atoms, optionally being unsubstituted, mono- or polysubstituted by halogen or CN, also, optionally, one or more non-adjacent CH2 groups being replaced, in each case independently from one another, by —O—, —S—, —NH—, —N(CH3)—, —CO—, —COO——OCO—, —OCO—O—, —S—CO—, —CO—S— or —C≡C— in such a manner that oxygen atoms are not linked directly to one another, or alternatively R is halogen, cyano or has independently one of the meanings given for P—(Sp)n—, or a2) 5 to 70% by weight of at least one achiral direactive compound of formula I where R independently has one of the meanings for P—(Sp)n—, b) 10 to 85% by weight of at least one chiral monoreactive compound of formula I, c) 0.1 to 5% by weight of a photoinitiator, d) 0 to 5% by weight of a non-polymerizable chiral dopant, e) optionally, 10 to 1000 ppm of a stabilizer and h1) 2 to 70% by weight of a non-mesogenic polymerizable compound having one polymerizable group, or h2) 2 to 70% by weight of a non-mesogenic polymerizable compound having two or more polymerizable groups.
- 12. A polymerizable mixture as claimed in claim 11, wherein both elements a1 and a2 are present.
- 13. A polymerizable mixture as claimed in claim 11, wherein both elements h1 and h2 are present.
- 14. A polymerizable mixture as claimed in claim 11, wherein both elements a2 and h1 are present.
- 15. A polymerizable mixture as claimed in claim 11, wherein both elements a1 and h2 are present.
- 16. A mixture as claimed in claim 11, wherein, in at least one compound of the formula I, MG is linked to the spacer group Sp and the organic group R by an ester or ether group or a single bond, and is of formula II—(A1Z1)m—A2Z2—A3— II whereinA1, A2 and A3 are independently from each other 1,4-phenylene in which, optionally, one or more CH groups are replaced by N; 1,4-cyclohexylene in which, optionally, one or two non-adjacent CH2 groups are replaced by O and/or S; 1,4-cyclohexenylene or naphthalene-2,6-diyl; optionally, all of these groups to be unsubstituted, mono- or polysubstituted with halogen, cyano or nitro groups or alkyl, alkoxy or alkanoyl groups having 1 to 7 C atoms wherein one or more H atoms may be substituted by F or Cl, m is 0, 1 or 2, and Z1 and Z2 are each independently —COO—, —OCO—, —CH2CH2—, —OCH2—, —CH2O—, —CH═CH—, —C≡C—, —CH═CH—COO—, —OCO—CH═CH— or a single bond.
- 17. A polymerizable mixture comprising:a1) 5 to 90% by weight of at least one achiral monoreactive compound of formula I, P—(Sp)n—MG—R I wherein P is a polymerizable group, Sp is a spacer group having 1 to 20 C atoms, n is 0 or 1, MG is a mesogenic or mesogenity supporting group, and R is an alkyl radical with up to 25 C atoms, optionally being unsubstituted, mono- or polysubstituted by halogen or CN, also, optionally, one or more non-adjacent CH2 groups being replaced, in each case independently from one another, by —O—, —S—, —NH—, —N(CH3)—, —CO—, —COO——OCO—, —OCO—O—, —S—CO—, —CO—S— or —C≡C— in such a manner that oxygen atoms are not linked directly to one another, or alternatively R is halogen, cyano or has independently one of the meanings given for P—(Sp)n—, a2) 2 to 70% by weight of an achiral direactive compound of formula I where R independently has one of the meanings for P—(Sp)n—, c) 0.1 to 5% by weight of a photoinitiator, d) 0.5 to 25% by weight of a non-polymerizable chiral dopant and e) optionally, 10 to 1000 ppm of a stabilizer.
- 18. A mixture as claimed in claim 17, wherein, in at least one compound of the formula I, MG is linked to the spacer group Sp and the organic group R by an ester or ether group or a single bond, and is of formula II—(A1Z1)m—A2—Z2—A3— II whereinA1, A2 and A3 are independently from each other 1,4-phenylene in which, optionally, one or more CH groups are replaced by N; 1,4-cyclohexylene in which, optionally, one or two non-adjacent CH2 groups are replaced by O and/or S; 1,4-cyclohexenylene or naphthalene-2,6-diyl; optionally, all of these groups to be unsubstituted, mono- or polysubstituted with halogen, cyano or nitro groups or alkyl, alkoxy or alkanoyl groups having 1 to 7 C atoms wherein one or more H atoms may be substituted by F or Cl, m is 0, 1 or 2, and Z1 and Z2 are each independently —COO—, —OCO—, —CH2CH2—, —OCH2—, —CH2O—, —CH═CH—, —C≡C—, —CH═CH—COO—, —OCO—CH═CH— or a single bond.
- 19. A polymerizable mixture of claim 2 which additionally comprises a surface-active compound.
- 20. A polymerizable mixture of claim 3 which additionally comprises a surface-active compound.
- 21. A polymerizable mixture of claim 4 which additionally comprises a surface-active compound.
- 22. A polymerizable mixture of claim 6 which additionally comprises a surface-active compound.
- 23. A polymerizable mixture of claim 8 which additionally comprises a surface-active compound.
- 24. A polymerizable mixture of claim 11 which additionally comprises a surface-active compound.
- 25. A polymerizable mixture of claim 17 which additionally comprises a surface-active compound.
- 26. A polymerizable mixture of claim 5, wherein:R is CN, F, Cl, OCF3, an alkyl or alkoxy group of 1-12 C atoms or has one of the meanings given for P—(Sp)n—; and MG is selected from one of the following formulae: wherein L is F, Cl, CN, NO2, CH3, C2H5, OCH3, OC2H5, COCH3, COC2H5, CF3, OCF3, OCHF2 or OC2F5 and r is 0, 1 or 2.
- 27. A polymerizable mixture of claim 7, wherein:R is CN, F, Cl, OCF3, an alkyl or alkoxy group of 1-12 C atoms or has one of the meanings given for P—(Sp)n—; and MG is selected from one of the following formulae: wherein L is F, Cl, CN, NO2, CH3, C2H5, OCH3, OC2H5, COCH3, COC2H5, CF3, OCF3, OCHF2 or OC2F5 and r is 0, 1 or 2.
- 28. A polymerizable mixture of claim 9, wherein:R is CN, F, Cl, OCF3, an alkyl or alkoxy group of 1-12 C atoms or has one of the meanings given for P—(Sp)n—; and MG is selected from one of the following formulae: wherein L is F, Cl, CN, NO2, CH3, C2H5, OCH3, OC2H5, COCH3, COC2H5, CF3, OCF3, OCHF2 or OC2F5 and r is 0, 1 or 2.
- 29. A polymerizable mixture of claim 16, wherein:R is CN, F, Cl, OCF3, an alkyl or alkoxy group of 1-12 C atoms or has one of the meanings given for P—(Sp)n—; and MG is selected from one of the following formulae: wherein L is F, Cl, CN, NO2, CH3, C2H5, OCH3, OC2H5, COCH3, COC2H5, CF3, OCF3, OCHF2 or OC2F5 and r is 0, 1 or 2.
- 30. A polymerizable mixture of claim 18, wherein:R is CN, F, Cl, OCF3, an alkyl or alkoxy group of 1-12 C atoms or has one of the meanings given for P—(Sp)n—; and MG is selected from one of the following formulae: wherein L is F, Cl, CN, NO2, CH3, C2H5, OCH3, OC2H5, COCH3, COC2H5, CF3, OCF3, OCHF2 or OC2F5 and r is 0, 1 or 2.
- 31. A polymerizable mixture of claim 4, wherein P is a vinyl, acrylate, methacrylate, propenyl ether, styrene or epoxy group and Sp is —(CH2)o— wherein o is an integer from 2 to 12.
- 32. A polymerizable mixture of claim 6, wherein P is a vinyl, acrylate, methacrylate, propenyl ether, styrene or epoxy group and Sp is —(CH2)o— wherein O is an integer from 2 to 12.
- 33. A polymerizable mixture of claim 8, wherein P is a vinyl, acrylate, methacrylate, propenyl ether, styrene or epoxy group and Sp is —(CH2)o— wherein o is an integer from 2 to 12.
- 34. A polymerizable mixture of claim 11, wherein P is a vinyl, acrylate, methacrylate, propenyl ether, styrene or epoxy group and Sp is —(CH2)o— wherein o is an integer from 2 to 12.
- 35. A polymerizable mixture of claim 17, wherein P is a vinyl, acrylate, methacrylate, propenyl ether, styrene or epoxy group and Sp is —(CH2)o— wherein o is an integer from 2 to 12.
- 36. A polymerizable mixture of claim 1, wherein the achiral polymerizable mesogenic compound is selected from the compounds of the following formulae: In these compounds x and y are each independently 1 to 12, v is 0 or 1, A is a 1,4-phenylene or 1,4-cyclohexylene group, R1 is halogen, cyano or an optionally halogenated alkyl or alkoxy group with 1 to 12 C atoms and L1 and L2 are each independently H, F, Cl, CN, or an optionally halogenated alkyl, alkoxy or alkanoyl group with 1 to 7 C atoms.
- 37. A polymerizable mixture of claim 2, wherein the achiral polymerizable mesogenic compound is selected from the compounds of the following formulae: In these compounds x and y are each independently 1 to 12, v is 0 or 1, A is a 1,4-phenylene or 1,4-cyclohexylene group, R1 is halogen, cyano or an optionally halogenated alkyl or alkoxy group with 1 to 12 C atoms and L1 and L2 are each independently H, F, Cl, CN, or an optionally halogenated alkyl, alkoxy or alkanoyl group with 1 to 7 C atoms.
- 38. A polymerizable mixture of claim 3, wherein the achiral polymerizable mesogenic compound is selected from the compounds of the following formulae: In these compounds x and y are each independently 1 to 12, v is 0 or 1, A is a 1,4-phenylene or 1,4-cyclohexylene group, R1 is halogen, cyano or an optionally halogenated alkyl or alkoxy group with 1 to 12 C atoms and L1 and L2 are each independently H, F, Cl, CN, or an optionally halogenated alkyl, alkoxy or alkanoyl group with 1 to 7 C atoms.
- 39. A polymerizable mixture of claim 4, wherein at least one achiral monoreactive compound of the formula I is selected from the compounds of the following formulae: In these compounds x and y are each independently 1 to 12, v is 0 or 1, A is a 1,4-phenylene or 1,4-cyclohexylene group, R1 is halogen, cyano or an optionally halogenated alkyl or alkoxy group with 1 to 12 C atoms and L1 and L2 are each independently H, F, Cl, CN, or an optionally halogenated alkyl, alkoxy or alkanoyl group with 1 to 7 C atoms.
- 40. A polymerizable mixture of claim 6, wherein at least one achiral monoreactive compound of the formula I is selected from the compounds of the following formulae: In these compounds x and y are each independently 1 to 12, v is 0 or 1, A is a 1,4-phenylene or 1,4-cyclohexylene group, R1 is halogen, cyano or an optionally halogenated alkyl or alkoxy group with 1 to 12 C atoms and L2 and L2 are each independently H, F, Cl, CN, or an optionally halogenated alkyl, alkoxy or alkanoyl group with 1 to 7 C atoms.
- 41. A polymerizable mixture of claim 8, wherein at least one achiral monoreactive compound of the formula I is selected from the compounds of the following formulae: In these compounds x and y are each independently 1 to 12, v is 0 or 1, A is a 1,4-phenylene or 1,4-cyclohexylene group, R1 is halogen, cyano or an optionally halogenated alkyl or alkoxy group with 1 to 12 C atoms and L1 and L2 are each independently H, F, Cl, CN, or an optionally halogenated alkyl, alkoxy or alkanoyl group with 1 to 7 C atoms.
- 42. A polymerizable mixture of claim 11, wherein at least one achiral monoreactive compound of the formula I is selected from the compounds of the following formulae: In these compounds x and y are each independently 1 to 12, v is 0 or 1, A is a 1,4-phenylene or 1,4-cyclohexylene group, R1 is halogen, cyano or an optionally halogenated alkyl or alkoxy group with 1 to 12 C atoms and L1 and L2 are each independently H, F, Cl, CN, or an optionally halogenated alkyl, alkoxy or alkanoyl group with 1 to 7 C atoms.
- 43. A polymerizable mixture of claim 17, wherein at least one achiral monoreactive compound of the formula I is selected from the compounds of the following formulae: In these compounds x and y are each independently 1 to 12, v is 0 or 1, A is a 1,4-phenylene or 1,4-cyclohexylene group, R1 is halogen, cyano or an optionally halogenated alkyl or alkoxy group with 1 to 12 C atoms and L1 and L2 are each independently H, F, Cl, CN, or an optionally halogenated alkyl, alkoxy or alkanoyl group with 1 to 7 C atoms.
