Claims
- 1. A liquid crystal reflective display comprising:a cholesteric liquid crystal capable of selectively reflecting spectral rays of a specific wavelength in a visible range; and a carrier carrying said cholesteric liquid crystal, wherein at least one of said cholesteric liquid crystal and said carrier contains a coloring agent absorbing spectral rays in a wavelength range different from the selective reflection wavelength of said cholesteric liquid crystal, and said coloring agent has an absorbing peak at a range of shorter wavelengths than the selective reflection wavelength of said cholesteric liquid crystal.
- 2. A liquid crystal reflective display according to claim 1, wherein said carrier is formed of a pair of substrates holding said cholesteric liquid crystal therebetween, and at least said substrate at the observation side is transparent.
- 3. A liquid crystal reflective display according to claim 2, wherein said transparent substrate at the observation side contains said coloring agent.
- 4. A liquid crystal reflective display according to claim 1, wherein said cholesteric liquid crystal is chiral nematic liquid crystal made of nematic liquid crystal and chiral dopant added thereto.
- 5. A liquid crystal reflective display according to claim 1, wherein said cholesteric liquid crystal is for reflecting red color, and wherein the coloring agent comprises a red color agent.
- 6. A liquid crystal reflective display according to claim 1, wherein said cholesteric liquid crystal is for reflecting green color, and wherein the coloring agent comprises a blue-absorption color agent.
- 7. A liquid crystal reflective display according to claim 6, wherein the blue absorption color agent is a yellow color agent or green color agent.
- 8. A liquid crystal reflective display according to claim 1, wherein said coloring agent comprises a dye.
- 9. A liquid crystal reflective display comprising:cholesteric liquid crystal being responsive to a voltage applied thereto to select a selective reflection state for selectively reflecting visible rays of a specific wavelength and light transmitting state for transmitting visible rays therethrough; and a carrier carrying said cholesteric liquid crystal, wherein a least one of said cholesteric liquid crystal and said carrier contains a coloring agent absorbing spectral rays in a wavelength range different from the selective reflection wavelength of said cholesteric liquid crystal, and said coloring agent has an absorbing peak at a range of shorter wavelengths than the selective reflection wavelength of said cholesteric liquid crystal.
- 10. A liquid crystal reflective display according to claim 9, further comprising voltage applying means for applying a voltage to said cholesteric liquid crystal.
- 11. A liquid crystal reflective display according to claim 9, wherein the voltage is applied to said cholesteric liquid crystal from external electrodes connected to a power supply.
- 12. A liquid crystal reflective display according to claim 9, wherein said cholesteric liquid crystal is for reflecting red color, and wherein the coloring agent comprises a red color agent.
- 13. A liquid crystal reflective display according to claim 9, wherein said cholesteric liquid crystal is for reflecting green color, and wherein the coloring agent comprises a blue-absorption color agent.
- 14. A liquid crystal reflective display according to claim 13, wherein the blue-absorption color agent is a yellow color agent or green color agent.
- 15. A liquid crystal reflective display according to claim 9, wherein said coloring agent comprises a dye.
- 16. A liquid crystal reflective display comprising:a cholesteric liquid crystal capable of selectively reflecting spectral rays of a specific wavelength in a visible range; and a carrier carrying said cholesteric liquid crystal, wherein at least one of said cholesteric liquid crystal and said carrier contains a coloring agent absorbing spectral rays in a wavelength range different from the selective reflection wavelength of said cholesteric liquid crystal, wherein said carrier is formed of a matrix of polymer material, and said cholesteric liquid crystal is dispersed in said matrix.
- 17. A liquid crystal reflective display according to claim 16, wherein said polymer matrix contains said coloring agent.
