Claims
- 1. A liquid-dispensing faucet comprising:
a mounting fitting defining a first flow passage, said mounting fitting adapted for connection to an associated container with said first flow passage in fluid communication with an internal space of said container, said mounting fitting further comprising a valve seat; a body defining an inlet, an outlet and a second flow passage that fluidically interconnects said inlet and said outlet, said body connected to said mounting fitting and further comprising:
a seal member that is selectively movable between a first operative position and second operative position, said seal member sealingly mating with said valve seat to block said first flow passage when said seal member is in said first operative position; and, an actuator operably coupled to said seal member for moving said seal member from said first operative position to said second operative position.
- 2. The liquid-dispensing faucet as set forth in claim 1, wherein said mounting fitting comprises a flange, said flange and said body adapted for engaging therebetween a wall of the associated container.
- 3. The liquid-dispensing faucet as set forth in claim 1, wherein said mounting fitting and said body define respective threads by which said body and said fitting are operably connected.
- 4. The liquid-dispensing faucet as set forth in claim 1, further comprising:
means for operably and releasably connecting said body to said fitting.
- 5. The liquid-dispensing faucet as set forth in claim 1, wherein said seal member comprises a nipple-shaped seat cup having a base and a nose portion projecting outwardly from said base, said nose comprising a sealing face that mates with said valve seat when said seal member is in said first operative position.
- 6. The liquid-dispensing faucet as set forth in claim 5, further comprising a stem that extends through an opening defined in said body, said stem comprising a first end located within said body and connected to said nose and comprising a second end opposite said first end and located external to said body, said actuator connected to said second end of said stem.
- 7. The liquid-dispensing faucet as set forth in claim 6, wherein said actuator comprises a lever pivotably connected to said second end of said stem, said lever comprising a cam surface that bears against said body and pulls said stem and said nose of said seat cup away from said valve seat when said lever is pivoted relative to said stem.
- 8. The liquid-dispensing faucet as set forth in claim 6, wherein said opening in said body through which said stem extends is defined in an end-wall, said end-wall comprising a boss that is received into a recess of said seat cup.
- 9. The liquid-dispensing faucet as set forth in claim 8, wherein said body defines an annular groove in which said base of said seat cup is received.
- 10. The liquid-dispensing faucet as set forth in claim 1, further comprising:
a spring that biases said seal member to its first operative position.
- 11. A faucet comprising:
a mounting fitting connected to a liquid container, said mounting fitting comprising: (i) a first flow passage defined therein that communicates with an internal liquid-holding space of said container; and, (ii) a valve seat in communication with said first flow passage, said valve seat located external to said container; a body operably connected to said mounting fitting, said body comprising a liquid inlet for flow of liquid into said body, a liquid outlet for flow of liquid out of said body, and a second flow passage that fluidically interconnects said inlet and said outlet; a seal located within said body, said seal movable between a first position in sealing engagement with said valve seat and a second position unseated from said valve seat; and, an actuator operably coupled to said seal, said actuator manually operable to move said seal selectively from said first position to said second position.
- 12. The faucet as set forth in claim 11, further comprising:
a stem operably connected between said seal and said actuator, said stem extending through an opening defined in an end-wall of said body.
- 13. The faucet as set forth in claim 12, wherein said seal defines a recess and wherein said end-wall comprises a boss that projects outwardly therefrom and that is received in said recess.
- 14. The faucet as set forth in claim 13, wherein said opening is defined in said boss and wherein said stem extends through said recess of said seal.
- 15. The faucet as set forth in claim 14, wherein said seal comprises a peripheral base that surrounds said boss.
- 16. The faucet as set forth in claim 15, wherein said seal member comprises a seat cup including a nose portion that projects outwardly from said peripheral base, said nose portion defining a sealing face that mates with and sealingly engages said valve seat when said seal is located in said first position.
- 17. The faucet as set forth in claim 11, wherein said body is releasably coupled to said mounting fitting.
- 18. The faucet as set forth in claim 11, wherein said mounting fitting comprises a flange located within said liquid holding space in abutment with a wall of said container, wherein said wall of said container is captured between said body and said flange.
- 19. The faucet as set forth in claim 11, wherein said mounting fitting comprises a male portion that projects outwardly away from said container and that is received within said inlet of said body.
- 20. A faucet comprising:
a first member comprising a valve seat, said first member defining a first flow passage adapted for communication with a liquid holding space of a container and said valve seat; a second member coupled to the first member and defining a second flow passage that communicates with said first flow passage via said valve seat and that comprises a dispensing outlet in communication with said second flow passage and from which liquid is dispensed for consumption; a seal operably connected to said second member; a manual actuator operably coupled to said seal to move said seal from a first operative position to a second operative position, said seal engaging said valve seat with a fluid-tight fit when in said first operative position.
