Claims
- 1. A liquid dispensing device (10; 110) for suspension from ; support, the device (10; 110) comprising:
bottle (18; 118) for holding a liquid, the bottle (18; 118) having a mouth (19; 119) and a closure (20; 120) covering the mouth (19; 119); mounting structure (60; 160) for holding the bottle (18; 118), the mounting structure (60; 160) having a piercing post (27; 27a; 127) defining a feed conduit (31; 31a; 131) having, in use, a bottom wall (39; 186), means (29; 129) for opening the closure (20; 120) of the bottle (18; 118) and for placing the feed conduit (31; 31a; 131) in fluid communication with the mouth (19; 119) of the bottle (18; 118), and a dispensing plate (40; 40a; 40b; 40c; 40d; 40e; 140); and suspension means (12, 25; 112, 125) for suspending the mounting structure (60; 160) from the support; characterised in that:
the dispensing plate (40; 40a; 40b; 40c; 40d; 40e; 140) has, in use, an upper surface (42; 42g; 142) having a collecting cavity (44; 44b; 44c; 44d; 44e; 144) in fluid communication with the feed conduit (31; 31a; 131) and in fluid communication with a plurality of feed channels (48; 48b; 48c; 48d; 48e; 148) in said dispensing plate (40; 40a; 40b; 40c; 40d; 40e; 140), said feed channels (48; 48b; 48c; 48d; 48e; 148) being suitable to convey the liquid from the collecting cavity (44; 44b; 44c; 44d; 44e; 144) to a dispensing position, which, in use, is on the upper surface (42; 42g; 142) of the dispensing plate (40; 40a; 40b; 40c; 40d; 40e; 140), said dispensing plate (40; 40a; 40b; 40c; 40d; 40e; 140) being, in use, downwardly inclined at an angle of at least 5 degrees from the horizontal.
- 2. The liquid dispensing device (10; 110) of claim 1, wherein:
the suspension means (12, 25; 112, 125) comprise a suspension hook (12; 112) and a guide channel (25; 125) in the mounting structure (60; 160), the suspension hook (12; 112) having a lower end (13; 113), the suspension hook (12; 112) being slidably inserted in the guide channel (25; 125) such that the lower end (13; 113) of the suspension hook (12; 112) engages an inner surface of the guide channel (25; 125).
- 3. The liquid dispensing device (10; 110) of claim 1, wherein:
the piercing post (27; 27a; 127) has a cylindrical tubular section (28; 28a; 128), and the means (29; 129) for opening the closure (20; 120) of the bottle (18; 118) comprises an obliquely truncated end portion (29; 129) of the tubular section (28; 28a; 128).
- 4. The liquid dispensing device (10; 110) of claim 1, wherein:
the closure (20; 120) of the bottle (18; 118) comprises a frangible seal (21; 121) configured to be broken by pressing against the end portion (29; 129) of said piercing post (27; 127).
- 5. The liquid dispensing device (110) of claim 4, wherein:
the mounting structure (160) further comprises means (184) for keeping at least a section of said frangible seal (121) off of the end portion (129) of the piercing post (127) after said frangible seal (121) is broken.
- 6. The liquid dispensing device (110) of claim 5, wherein:
said means (184) for keeping at least a section of the frangible seal (121) off of the end portion (129) of the piercing post (127) comprises a projection (184) that extends above the end portion (129) of the piercing post (127).
- 7. The liquid dispensing device (10; 110) of claim 1, wherein:
said mounting structure (60; 160) holds and supports said bottle (18; 118) in an inverted position with the mouth (19; 119) of said bottle (18; 118) projecting downwardly, in use, so as to dispense liquid from said bottle (18; 118) by gravity.
- 8. The liquid dispensing device (110) of claim 7, wherein:
said feed conduit (131) is surrounded by an annular channel (137) having an outer cylindrical wall (180), the interior of which wall (180) engages the outer surface of the mouth (119) of said bottle (118), said wall (180) further providing a plurality of means (182) for engaging said dispensing plate (140), and said dispensing plate (140), in use, is downwardly inclined at an angle of from about 10 to about 30 degrees from the horizontal.
- 9. The liquid dispensing device (110) of claim 1, wherein:
said dispensing plate (140), in use, is downwardly inclined at an angle of from about 20 to about 30 degrees from the horizontal, and sold dispensing plate (140) is spaced apart from the bottom wall (186) of said feed conduit (131) by a riser (187), said riser (187) having openings (188) therein to permit venting of said bottle (118).
- 10. The liquid dispensing device (110) of claim 9, wherein:
said dispensing plate (140) further comprises at least one barrier wall (154) surrounding at least a portion of said collecting cavity (144).
- 11. The liquid dispensing device (110) of claim 10, wherein:
said dispensing plate (140) further comprises at least one drain conduit (152) for draining water from said dispensing plate (140) in the area of said at least one barrier wall (154).
- 12. The liquid dispensing device (110) of claim 10, wherein:
said dispensing plate (140) further comprises a venting slot (146) whereby atmospheric air may enter said bottle (118) to displace liquid dispensed therefrom into the flushing water (W).
- 13. The liquid dispensing device (110) of claim 10, wherein:
said dispensing plate (140) further comprises a vertical post (181) which, in use, extends vertically into the dispensing hole (138) of said bottom wall (186) of said feed conduit (131) to break the surface tension of the liquid being dispensed.
- 14. The liquid dispensing device (10; 110) of claim 1, wherein:
said dispensing plate (40; 40a; 40b; 40c; 40d; 40e; 140), in use, is inclined downwardly from said collecting cavity (44; 44b; 44c; 44d; 44e; 144) to said dispensing position at an angle of from about 10 to 30 degrees from the horizontal, and said liquid has a viscosity of from about 2000 to about 4000 centipoise.
- 15. The liquid dispensing device (10; 110) of claim 14, wherein:
said feed channels (48, 48b; 48c; 148) radiate outwardly from said collecting cavity (44; 44b; 44c; 44d; 44e; 144).
- 16. The liquid dispensing device (10; 110) of claim 15, wherein:
at least a portion of the feed channels (48; 48b; 48c; 48d; 48c; 48e; 148) have a depth greater than the depth of the collecting cavity (44; 44b; 44c; 44d; 44e; 144).
- 17. The liquid dispensing device (110) of claim 16, wherein:
said dispensing plate further comprises at least one barrier wall (154) surrounding at least a portion of said collecting cavity (144).
- 18. The liquid dispensing device (110) of claim 17, wherein:
said dispensing plate (140) further comprises at least one drain conduit (152) for draining water from said dispensing plate (140) in the area of said at least one barrier wall (154).
- 19. The liquid dispensing device (110) of claim 18, wherein:
said dispensing plate (140) further comprises a venting slot (146) whereby atmospheric air may enter said bottle (118) to displace liquid dispensed therefrom into the flushing water (W).
- 20. The liquid dispensing device (110) of claim 19, wherein:
said dispensing plate (140) further comprises a vertical post (181) which, in use, extends vertically into the dispensing hole (138) of said bottom wall (186) of said feed conduit (131) to break the surface tension of the liquid being dispensed.
- 21. The liquid dispensing device (110) of claim 20, wherein:
said bottle (118) has a view stripe (123) which, in use, extends vertically on a portion of the bottle (118), the view stripe (123) being suitable for transmitting light from outside the bottle (118) to inside the bottle (118).
- 22. The liquid dispensing device (110) of claim 21, wherein:
the device (110) is a dispenser (110) for dispensing liquid from the rim of a toilet bowl (16A; 16B).
- 23. The liquid dispensing device (110) of claim 22, wherein:
said dispensing plate (140) includes a rim (166) at the perimeter thereof.
- 24. A device (110) for dispensing a liquid from the rim of a toilet bowl (16A; 16B), the device (110) comprising:
a bottle (118) for holding a liquid cleaning agent, the bottle (118) having a mouth (119) and a closure (120) for covering the mouth (119); a mounting structure (160) for holding said bottle (118), said structure (160) comprising a piercing post (127) defining a feed conduit (131), said piercing post (127) suitable for opening the closure (120) of the bottle (118) and establishing fluid communication between the mouth (119) of the bottle (118) and the feed conduit (131), means (184) for keeping at least a portion of the closure (120) off of the end portion (129) of the piercing post (127) after said closure (120) is opened, and a dispensing plate (140); and suspension means (112, 125) for suspending the mounting structure (160) from the rim of a toilet bowl (16A; 16B); characterised in that:
said dispensing plate (140) is, in use, downwardly inclined at an angle of at least 5 degrees from the horizontal and has, in use, an upper surface (142) having a collecting cavity (144) in fluid communication with said feed conduit (131) and in that the liquid has a viscosity between about 2000 and about 4000 centipoise.
- 25. The device (110) of claim 24, wherein:
said feed conduit (131) further comprises a plurality of means (182) for engaging said dispensing plate (140) and said dispensing plate (140) comprises a plurality of feed channels (148), the feed channels (148) being suitable to convey the liquid from said collecting cavity (144) to a dispensing position which, in use, is on the upper surface (142) of the dispensing plate (140).
- 26. The device (110) of claim 25, wherein:
said feed conduit (131) is surrounded by an annular channel (137) which engages the mouth (119) of the bottle (118), the exterior wall (180) of said feed conduit (131) providing at least three means (182) for engagement of said dispensing plate (140).
- 27. The device (110) of claim 26, wherein:
the feed conduit (131) comprises a lower wall (186) having a dispensing hole (138) therein, said lower wall (186) spaced from said dispensing plate (140) by a riser (137) having openings (188) therein to permit venting of said bottle (118), and said dispensing plate (140) is, in use, downwardly inclined at an angle of from about 10 to about 30 degrees from the horizontal.
- 28. The device (110) of claim 27, wherein:
said dispensing plate (140) includes at least one barrier wall (154) surrounding at least a portion of the collecting cavity (144).
- 29. The device (110) of claim 28, wherein:
the dispensing plate (140) has a surface tension breaking post (181) which, in use, extends upward from the collecting cavity (144) into the feed conduit (131).
- 30. The device (110) of claim 29, wherein,
the dispensing plate (140) includes a rim (166) at the perimeter thereof, and at least one drain conduit (152) extending through the dispensing plate (140) for draining water from said dispensing plate (140) in the area of said at least one barrier wall (154).
- 31. The device (110) of claim 30, wherein:
said dispensing plate (140) further comprises a venting slot (146) whereby atmospheric air may enter said bottle (118) to displace liquid dispensed therefrom into the flushing water (W).
- 32. The device (110) of claim 31, wherein:
said dispensing plate (140) further comprises a vertical post (181) which, in use, extends vertically into the dispensing hole (138) of said bottom wall (186) of said feed conduit (131) to break the surface tension of the liquid being dispensed.
- 33. The device (110) of claim 32, wherein:
said bottle (118) has a view stripe (123) which, in use, extends vertically on a portion of the bottle (118), the view stripe (123) being suitable for transmitting light from outside the bottle (118) to inside the bottle (118).
- 34. The device (110) of claim 33, wherein:
at least a portion of the feed channels (148) have a lower surface that is, in use, inclined downwardly with respect to a lower surface of the collecting cavity (144).
- 35. The device (110) of claim 29, wherein:
the dispensing plate (140) includes a deflector (55; 55a) secured to an edge of the dispensing plate (140), the deflector (55; 55a) being dimensioned so as to be suitable to contact an inner surface of the toilet bowl (16A; 16B) when the device (110) is installed on the rim of the toilet bowl (16A; 16B), and said dispensing plate (140) is, in use, downwardly inclined at an angle of from about 20 to about 30 degrees from the horizontal.
