Claims
- 1. A liquid pump module for use in a well, said pump module including a housing, a lower coupling affixed to a lower end of said housing, an upper coupling affixed to an upper end of said housing, a first tube within said housing extending between said lower coupling and said upper coupling and forming a first passage therebetween, a second tube within said housing extending between said lower coupling and said upper coupling and forming a second passage therebetween, a flexible tubular member positioned around both of said tubes and extending between said lower coupling and said upper coupling, at least one of said couplings having means for connecting said first passage with one side of said flexible member, means for supplying fluid under pressure to said first passage means to cause said member to flex, and valve means for controlling the supply of fluid from said supply means to said first passage means.
- 2. A pump module according to claim 1 characterized by the other of said couplings having means for also connecting said first passage with the one side of said flexible member.
- 3. A pump module according to claim 1 characterized by said last-named means connecting said first passage with the space between said housing and said flexible tubular member.
- 4. A pump module according to claim 1 characterized by said lower coupling having passage means for supplying liquid to the other side of said flexible member and said upper coupling having passage means for receiving liquid from said other side of said flexible member.
- 5. A pump module according to claim 4 characterized by said lower passage means having a check vave permitting flow of liquid toward said flexible member.
- 6. A pump module according to claim 5 characterized by said check valve having means for being opened to permit the downward flow of liquid even when the space on said other side of said flexible member is full of liquid.
- 7. A pump module according to claim 1 characterized by guide means being carried by both of said tubes for receiving and shaping said flexible tubular member when in a compressed condition.
- 8. A pump module according to claim 7 characterized by said guide means shaping said member such that the circumference of said member is substantially the same when in the compressed condition as when in a normal, unpressurized condition.
- 9. A pump module according to claim 8 characterized by said guide means shaping said member in a generally hourglass shape.
- 10. A pump module according to claim 1 characterized by guide means around said first and second tubes within said tubular member for shaping said member, when compressed, such that its circumference is substantially the same as when it is in a normal state.
- 11. A pump module according to claim 1 characterized by said tubes being in sections which are connected together by nipples.
- 12. A pump module according to claim 11 characterized by the connecting nipples being connected together by a web support.
- 13. A pump module according to claim 1 characterized by said tubular member being connected to said lower and upper couplings by circumferential bands.
- 14. A liquid pump module for use in a well, said pump module including a housing, a lower coupling at a lower end of said housing, an upper coupling at an upper end of said housing, tube means within said housing extending between said lower coupling and said upper coupling and forming passage means therebetween, a flexible, tubular bladder positioned around said tube means and extending between said lower coupling and said upper coupling, at least one of said couplings having means for connecting part of said tube means with one side of said flexible bladder, said tube means having guide means within said tubular bladder for shaping said bladder, when compressed, such that its circumference is substantially the same as when it is in a normal state, means for supplying fluid under pressure to said part of said tube means to cause said bladder to flex, and valve means for controlling the supply of fluid to said part of said tube means.
- 15. A pump module according to claim 14 characterized by said surfaces shaping said bladder when compressed, into a generally hourglass configuration.
- 16. A pump module according to claim 14 characterized by said tube means forming first and second passages within said bladder with said coupling means connecting said first passage with one side of said flexible bladder.
- 17. A pump module according to claim 16 characterized by said coupling means connecting said first passage with the space between said housing and said tubular bladder.
