Claims
- 1. In an automotive bumper having an outer surface and a rear surface and having an aperture extending between said outer and rear surfaces, the improvement of a lock arrangement for selectively closing said aperture comprising a closure disc, an edge on said closure disc which is of larger diameter than the diameter of said aperture and is positioned for engagement with said outer surface, a wing on said closure disc positioned on the opposite side of said bumper from said outer surface for engagement with said rear surface of said bumper when said edge is in engagement with said outer surface of said bumper, and a key-operated linkage joining said closure disc and said wing.
- 2. In an automotive bumper as set forth in claim 1 wherein said closure disc includes a shoulder which fits within said aperture.
- 3. A lock arrangement for insertion into an aperture of an automotive bumper for blocking access to an open end of a winch inlet tube of a spare wheel hoist and storage winch comprising a closure disc mounted on said bumper and obstructing said aperture, an edge on said closure disc which is larger than the diameter of said aperture for engagement with said bumper, and a key-actuated lock on said closure for selectively permitting removal of said closure disc from said aperture in said bumper to thereby permit passage of a winch actuating member through said aperture in said bumper and through said winch inlet tube for actuating said winch.
- 4. A lock arrangement as set forth in claim 3 wherein said closure disc includes axially spaced members thereon for positioning on opposite sides of said bumper.
- 5. A lock arrangement as set forth in claim 4 wherein said closure disc includes a shoulder which fits within said aperture.
- 6. In an automotive vehicle having a winch inlet tube having an open end associated with a spare wheel hoist and storage winch and having a bumper having a outer surface and a rear surface and having an aperture extending between said outer and rear surfaces, the improvement of a lock arrangement for insertion into said aperture of said automotive bumper for blocking said open end of said winch inlet tube comprising a closure disc mounted on said bumper and obstructing said aperture, an edge on said closure disc which is larger than the diameter of said aperture and is positioned proximate said outer surface for engagement therewith, and a key-actuated lock on said closure for selectively permitting removal of said closure disc from said bumper to thereby permit passage of a winch actuating member through said aperture in said bumper and through said winch inlet tube for actuating said winch.
- 7. In an automotive vehicle as set forth in claim 6 including a shoulder which fits within said aperture.
- 8. In an automotive vehicle having a frame mounting a spare wheel hoist and storage winch and having a winch inlet tube extending outwardly from said winch toward the rear of said vehicle and said winch inlet tube having an open end remote from said winch and an interior which is unobstructed for a substantial portion of the length thereof leading from said open end toward said winch for receiving an elongated crank which passes through said substantial portion of the length of said winch inlet tube for actuating said winch, and said automotive vehicle having a rear bumper with a hole therein through which said elongated crank can be passed for insertion into said winch inlet tube, the improvement of a lock arrangement for blocking said open end of said winch inlet tube comprising an extension tube, a first end on said extension tube positioned in telescopic relationship with said open end of said winch inlet tube, a second end on said extension tube mounted in said hole of said bumper, said extension tube being effectively clear throughout the length thereof to permit passage of said elongated crank therethrough, and a key-actuated lock body selectively insertable into said second end of said extension tube to block entry of said elongated crank through said extension tube and said key-actuated lock body being removable from said second end of said extension tube to permit said elongated crank to pass through said extension tube and through said winch inlet tube to actuate said winch.
- 9. In an automotive vehicle as set forth in claim 8 including a slot in said extension tube, and a tongue on said lock body insertable into said slot.
- 10. In an automotive vehicle as set forth in claim 9 wherein said tongue is biased to an extended position on said lock body for entry into said slot.
- 11. In an automotive vehicle as set forth in claim 10 including an inclined side on said tongue facing away from said second end, and a straight surface facing toward said second end.
- 12. In an automotive vehicle as set forth in claim 8 including a lip on said second end of said extension tube on the opposite side of said bumper from said winch inlet tube.
- 13. In an automotive vehicle as set forth in claim 12 including a cover on said second end of said extension tube.
- 14. In an automotive vehicle having a frame mounting a spare wheel hoist and storage winch and having a winch inlet tube extending outwardly from said winch toward the rear of said vehicle and said winch inlet tube having an open end remote from said winch and an interior which is unobstructed for a substantial portion of the length thereof leading from said open end toward said winch for receiving an elongated crank which passes through said substantial portion of the length of said winch inlet tube for actuating said winch, and said automotive vehicle having a rear vehicle portion with a hole therein through which said elongated crank can be passed for insertion into said winch inlet tube, the improvement of a lock arrangement for blocking said open end of said winch inlet tube comprising an extension tube, a first end on said extension tube positioned in telescopic relationship with said open end of said winch inlet tube, a second end on said extension tube permanently mounted in said hole of said rear vehicle portion, said extension tube being effectively unblocked throughout including said first and second ends, and a key-actuated lock body selectively insertable into said second end of said extension tube to block entry of said elongated crank through said extension tube and said key-actuated lock body being removable from said second end of said extension tube to permit said elongated crank to pass through said extension tube and through said winch inlet tube to actuate said winch.
- 15. In an automotive vehicle as set forth in claim 14 including a slot in said extension tube, and a tongue on said lock body insertable into said slot.
- 16. In an automotive vehicle as set forth in claim 15 wherein said tongue is biased to an extended position on said lock body for entry into said slot.
- 17. In an automotive vehicle as set forth in claim 16 including an inclined side on said tongue facing away from said second end, and a straight surface facing toward said second end.
- 18. In an automotive vehicle as set forth in claim 14 including a lip on said second end of said extension tube on the opposite side of said rear vehicle portion from said winch inlet tube.
- 19. In an automotive vehicle as set forth in claim 18 including a cover on said second end of said extension tube.
- 20. A lock arrangement for blocking an open end of a winch inlet tube of a spare wheel hoist and storage winch comprising an extension tube, first and second ends on said extension tube, said extension tube being effectively unblocked throughout the length thereof including said first and second ends, an opening in said second end of said extension tube, and a key-actuated lock selectively insertable into and removable from said second end of said extension tube.
- 21. A lock arrangement as set forth in claim 20 including a slot in said extension tube between said first and second ends, and a tongue on said lock body insertable into said slot.
- 22. A lock arrangement as set forth in claim 21 wherein said tongue is biased to an extended position on said lock body for entry into said slot.
- 23. A lock arrangement as set forth in claim 22 including an inclined side on said tongue facing away from said second end, and a straight surface facing toward said second end.
- 24. A lock arrangement as set forth in claim 20 including a lip on said second end of said extension tube.
- 25. A lock arrangement as set forth in claim 24 including a cover on said second end of said extension tube.
- 26. A lock arrangement for blocking access to the open end of a spare wheel hoist and storage winch comprising a tubular member having first and second ends and a central portion therebetween, an opening in said tubular member, a lip on said first end, a pair of ramps on said central portion inclined toward said lip, a key-actuated lock including a lock body received in said opening of said tubular member, a second lip on said lock body for engaging said tubular member proximate said first end thereof, said opening in said tubular member being of a first configuration, said lock body being of a second configuration which is complementary to said first configuration, and said lock body configuration comprising two parallel straight sides and two curved sides joining said two parallel straight sides.
- 27. A lock arrangement as set forth in claim 26 wherein said lock body includes first and second ends and a central portion therebetween, and wherein said first end of said lock body is positioned proximate said first end of said tubular member, and wherein said second end of said lock body is positioned remote from said first end of said tubular member, and a key-receiving opening in said first end of said lock body.
- 28. A lock arrangement as set forth in claim 27 including a second lip on said lock body for engaging said tubular member proximate said first end thereof.
- 29. A lock arrangement as set forth in claim 28 wherein said opening in said tubular member is of a first configuration, and wherein said lock body is of a second configuration which is complementary to said first configuration.
- 30. A lock arrangement as set forth in claim 29 wherein said lock body configuration comprises two parallel straight sides and two curved sides joining said two parallel straight sides.
- 31. A lock arrangement as set forth in claim 30 including a member on said lock body for engaging said tubular member at a position on the opposite side of said ramps from said first end of said tubular member.
- 32. A lock arrangement as set forth in claim 27 including a shoulder on said lock body which fits within said opening.
- 33. In an automotive vehicle having a vehicle rear part with an outer surface and a rear surface on the opposite side of said rear part from said outer surface and having an aperture in said vehicle rear part extending between said outer surface and said rear surface, and said automotive vehicle having a winch inlet tube with an open end facing said vehicle rear part, the improvement of a lock arrangement for selectively closing said aperture in said vehicle rear part to prevent access to said open end of said winch inlet tube comprising an elongated member positioned in said aperture, a first portion of said elongated member located proximate said aperture in said vehicle rear part, a second portion on said elongated member located between said vehicle rear part and said open end of said winch inlet tube, an opening in said member, a lip on said member positioned adjacent said outer surface, ramps on said elongated member positioned adjacent said rear surface, a lock body removably positioned in said opening, a rim on said lock body located proximate said first portion of said elongated member, a movable member on said lock body positioned in opposition to said second portion of said elongated member, a key-receiving opening in said elongated lock body, said opening including two first straight sides and two first curved sides, and said lock body including two second straight sides and two second curved sides, respectively, which are positioned in complementary relationship to said two first straight sides and two first curved sides, respectively.
- 34. In an automotive vehicle having a winch inlet tube having an open end associated with a spare wheel hoist and storage winch and having a rear part on said vehicle having an outer surface and a rear surface on the opposite side of said rear part from said outer surface and having an aperture extending between said outer and rear surfaces, the improvement of a lock arrangement for insertion into said aperture for blocking access to said open end of said winch inlet tube comprising a tubular member mounted in said aperture, a first portion on said tubular member proximate said aperture and a second portion on said tubular member remote from said aperture and between said aperture and said open end of said winch inlet tube, an opening defined by said tubular member, a lock body mounted in said tubular member and obstructing said opening, a lip on said lock body which bears against said first portion of said tubular member, and a locking member on said lock body which is selectively positioned in opposition to said second portion of said tubular member, and a key-actuated lock on said lock body for selectively moving said locking member out of opposition to said second portion of said tubular member to thereby permit removal of said lock body from said tubular member to thereby permit passage of a winch actuating member through said opening in said tubular member and through said winch inlet tube for actuating said winch.
- 35. A lock arrangement for insertion into an aperture in a rear part of an automotive vehicle for blocking access to an open end of a winch inlet tube of a spare wheel hoist and storage winch comprising a tubular member for permanent mounting in said aperture of said rear part of an automotive vehicle, a first portion on said member for positioning proximate said aperture and a second portion on said tubular member for positioning remote from said aperture, an opening defined by said tubular member, a lock body mounted in said tubular member and obstructing said opening, a lip on said lock body which is positioned in opposition to said first portion of said tubular member, a second member on said lock body which is selectively positioned in opposition to said second portion of said tubular member for engagement therewith, and a key-actuated lock on said lock body for selectively permitting removal of said lock body from said opening in said tubular member to thereby permit passage of a winch actuating member through said opening in said tubular member and through a winch inlet tube for actuating a winch.
- 36. A lock arrangement as set forth in claim 35 wherein said tubular member includes axially spaced lips thereon for positioning on opposite sides of said rear part.
