Claims
- 1. In combination, a lockable media storage container and a lock adapted to lock the media storage container in a closed and locked condition; the combination comprising:a storage container having a base and a lid hingedly connected to the base; the lid movable between open and closed positions; the base defining at least a first locking hole; the lid defining at least a first locking hole; the lock having a locking member and a first locking finger connected together; the locking member slidable into the locking holes of the lid and base between unlocked and locked positions; the first locking finger movable between unlocked and locked positions, the first locking finger engaging the storage container in the locked position to prevent the lock from moving from the locked position to the unlocked position; the lock being readily removable from the base and lid when the lock finger is in the unlocked position; the locking holes being positioned to create a shearing relationship with the locking member when said lid is initially moved from the closed position toward the open position; and the first locking finger pivoting between the locked and unlocked positions.
- 2. The combination of claim 1, wherein the first locking finger may be pivoted from the locked position to the unlocked position with magnetic force.
- 3. The combination of claim 2, wherein the first locking finger is biased to the locked position.
- 4. The combination of claim 3, wherein the container includes a pair of protection ribs; a portion of the lock being disposed between the pair of protection ribs when the lock is in a locked position.
- 5. The combination of claim 4, wherein the protection ribs are attached to the base.
- 6. The combination of claim 4, further comprising an EAS tag carried by the lock.
- 7. The combination of claim 6, wherein the EAS tag is trapped between the lock and a portion of the storage container when the storage container is closed and the lock is in the locked position.
- 8. The combination of claim 1, wherein the base includes a front wall, the front wall of the base defining the first locking hole of the base;the lid including a front wall; and the front wall of the lid defining the first locking hole of the lid.
- 9. The combination of claim 1, further comprising an EAS tag carried by the lock.
- 10. The combination of claim 9, wherein the EAS tag is trapped between the lock and a portion of the storage container when the storage container is closed and the lock is in the locked position.
- 11. The combination of claim 10, wherein the lock defines a recess; the EAS tag being disposed in the recess.
- 12. The combination of claim 9, wherein the first locking finger may be pivoted from the locked position to the unlocked position with magnetic force.
- 13. The combination of claim 1, wherein the container includes a pair of protection ribs; a portion of the lock being disposed between the pair of protection ribs when the lock is in a locked position.
- 14. The combination of claim 1, wherein the lock includes a second locking finger that pivots between unlocked and locked positions;the second locking finger engaging the storage container in the locked position at a location spaced from the location where the first locking finger engages the storage container in the locked position.
- 15. The combination of claim 14, wherein the first lock finger pivots in a first direction from the locked position to the unlocked position and the second lock finger pivots in a second direction from the locked position to the unlocked position; the first direction being different than the second direction.
- 16. The combination of claim 15, wherein the first direction is substantially opposite than the second direction.
- 17. In combination, a lockable media storage container and a lock adapted to lock the media storage container in a closed and locked condition; the combination comprising:a storage container having a base and a lid hingedly connected to the base; the lid movable between open and closed positions; the base defining at least a first locking hole; the lid defining at least a first locking hole; the lock having a locking member and a first locking finger connected together; the locking member slidable into the locking holes of the lid and base between unlocked and locked positions; the first locking finger movable between unlocked and locked positions; the storage container defining a first opening that receives a portion of the first locking finger when the lock is in the locked position and when the locking finger is in the locked position; the first locking finger engaging the storage container in the locked position to prevent the lock from moving from the locked position to the unlocked position; the locking holes being positioned to cause the base and lid to create a shear force on the locking member when the lid is attempted to be opened when the lock is in the locked position; and the first locking finger pivots between the locked and unlocked positions; wherein the lock may be readily removed from the storage container when the lock is in the unlocked position.
- 18. The combination of claim 17, wherein the lock includes a second locking finger that pivots between unlocked and locked positions; the storage container defining a second opening spaced from the first opening; and at least a portion of the second locking finger being received in the second opening when the lock is in the locked position and when the second locking finger is in the locked position.
- 19. The combination of claim 17, wherein the locking finger is free of threads that threadedly engage the storage container.
- 20. In combination, a lockable media storage container and a lock adapted to lock the media storage container in a closed and locked condition; the combination comprising:a storage container having a base and a lid hingedly connected to the base; the lid movable between open and closed positions; the base defining at least a first locking hole; the lid defining at least a first locking hole; the lock having a locking member and a first locking finger connected together; the locking member slidable into the locking holes of the lid and base between unlocked and locked positions; the first locking finger movable between unlocked and locked positions, the first locking finger engaging the storage container in the locked position to prevent the lock from moving from the locked position to the unlocked position; the locking holes being positioned to cause the base and lid to create a shear force on the locking member when the lid is attempted to be opened when the lock is in the locked position; the first locking finger pivoting between the locked and unlocked positions; and the first locking finger may be pivoted from the locked position to the unlocked position with magnetic force.
- 21. The combination of claim 20, wherein the first locking finger is biased to the locked position.
- 22. The combination of claim 21, wherein the lock includes a second locking finger that pivots between unlocked and locked positions;the second locking finger engaging the storage container in the locked position at a location spaced from the location where the first locking finger engages the storage container in the locked position.
- 23. The combination of claim 22, wherein the first lock finger pivots in a first direction from the locked position to the unlocked position and the second lock finger pivots in a second direction from the locked position to the unlocked position; the first direction being different than the second direction.
- 24. The combination of claim 23, wherein the first direction is substantially opposite than the second direction.
- 25. The combination of claim 20, wherein the lock may be removed from the storage container when the lock is in the unlocked position.
- 26. The combination of claim 20, wherein the locking finger is free of threads.
- 27. The combination of claim 20, wherein the lid is attached to the base with a living hinge.
- 28. The combination of claim 27, wherein the lid and base are integrally molded as a single piece.
- 29. The combination of claim 20, wherein the base includes a front wall, the front wall of the base defining the first locking hole of the base;the lid including a front wall; and the front wall of the lid defining the first locking hole of the lid.
- 30. The combination of claim 29, wherein the first locking hole of the base is coaxially-disposed with the first locking hole of the lid when the lid is closed.
- 31. The combination of claim 30, further comprising an EAS tag carried by the lock.
- 32. The combination of claim 31, wherein the EAS tag is trapped between the lock and a portion of the storage container when the storage container is closed and the lock is in the locked position.
- 33. The combination of claim 32, wherein the lock defines a recess; the EAS tag being disposed in the recess.
- 34. The combination of claim 20, wherein the lid includes a tab projecting down from the lid; the first locking hole of the lid being defined by the tab.
- 35. In combination, a lockable media storage container and a lock adapted to lock the media storage container in a closed and locked condition; the combination comprising:a storage container having a base and a lid hingedly connected to the base; the lid movable between open and closed positions; the base defining at least a first locking hole having an entrance disposed in a reference plane; the lid defining at least a first locking hole having an entrance disposed in a reference plane; a lock having a lock member selectively slidable into the locking holes between unlocked and locked positions; the lock member having a longitudinal dimension disposed substantially perpendicular to the reference planes when the lock member is slid into the holes; the lock member preventing the lid from moving to the open position when the lid is closed and the lock is in the locked position; the lock having at least a first locking finger movable between unlocked and locked positions, the first locking finger engaging the storage container in the locked position to prevent the lock from moving from the locked position to the unlocked position; each of the locking holes having a centerline disposed substantially normal to its reference plane; the centerlines of the locking holes being substantially parallel when the lid is in the closed position; the centerline of the locking hole of the lid initially moving in a direction substantially perpendicular to the centerline of the base locking hole when said lid is initially moved from the closed position toward the open position; and a key; the key including means for pivoting the locking finger from the locked position to the unlocked position.
- 36. The combination of claim 35, wherein the lid includes an upper wall; the reference plane that includes the entrance to the locking hole defined by the lid is substantially perpendicular to the upper wall of the lid.
- 37. The combination of claim 36, wherein the base includes a bottom wall; the reference plane that includes the entrance to the locking hole defined by the base is substantially perpendicular to the bottom wall of the base.
- 38. The combination of claim 35, wherein the first locking finger may be pivoted from the locked position to the unlocked position with magnetic force.
- 39. The combination of claim 35, further comprising an EAS tag carried by the lock.
- 40. The combination of claim 39, wherein the EAS tag is trapped between the lock and a portion of the storage container when the storage container is closed and the lock is in the locked position.
- 41. The combination of claim 35, wherein the lock may be readily removed from the base and lid when the first locking finger is in the unlocked position.
- 42. The combination of claim 41, wherein the container includes a pair of protection ribs; a portion of the lock being disposed between the pair of protection ribs when the lock is in a locked position.
- 43. In combination, a lockable media storage container and a lock adapted to lock the media storage container in a closed and locked condition; the combination comprising:a storage container having a base and a lid hingedly connected to the base; the lid movable between open and closed positions; the base defining at least a first locking hole; the lid defining at least a first locking hole; the lock having a locking member and a first locking finger connected together; the first locking finger pivoting between the locked and unlocked positions; the locking member slidable into the locking holes of the lid and base between unlocked and locked positions; the first locking finger movable between unlocked and locked positions, the first locking finger engaging the storage container in the locked position to prevent the lock from moving from the locked position to the unlocked position; the locking holes being positioned to cause the base and lid to create a shear force on the locking member when the lid is attempted to be opened when the lock is in the locked position; and a key; the key including means for pivoting the locking finger from the locked position to the unlocked position.
- 44. The combination of claim 43, further comprising means for biasing the locking finger to the locked position.
- 45. The combination of claim 43, wherein the lock includes a second locking finger that pivots between unlocked and locked positions;the second locking finger engaging the storage container in the locked position at a location spaced from the location where the first locking finger engages the storage container in the locked position.
- 46. The combination of claim 45, wherein the first lock finger pivots in a first direction from the locked position to the unlocked position and the second lock finger pivots in a second direction from the locked position to the unlocked position; the first direction being different than the second direction.
- 47. The combination of claim 46, wherein the first direction is substantially opposite than the second direction.
- 48. The combination of claim 45, wherein the first and second locking fingers may be pivoted from the locked position to the unlocked position with magnetic force.
- 49. The combination of claim 48, wherein the first and second locking fingers are biased to the locked position.
- 50. The combination of claim 43, wherein the first locking finger may be pivoted from the locked position to the unlocked position with magnetic force.
- 51. The combination of claim 50, wherein the first locking finger is biased to the locked position.
- 52. The combination of claim 50, wherein the container includes a pair of protection ribs; a portion of the lock being disposed between the pair of protection ribs when the lock is in a locked position.
- 53. The combination of claim 52, wherein the protection ribs are attached to the base.
- 54. The combination of claim 50, wherein the lock may be removed from the storage container when the lock is in the unlocked position.
- 55. The combination of claim 54, further comprising an EAS tag carried by the lock.
- 56. The combination of claim 55, wherein the EAS tag is trapped between the lock and a portion of the storage container when the storage container is closed and the lock is in the locked position.
- 57. The combination of claim 56, wherein the lock defines a recess; the EAS tag being disposed in the recess.
- 58. The combination of claim 43, further comprising an EAS tag carried by the lock.
- 59. The combination of claim 58, wherein the EAS tag is trapped between the lock and a portion of the storage container when the storage container is closed and the lock is in the locked position.
- 60. The combination of claim 59, wherein the lock defines a recess; the EAS tag being disposed in the recess.
- 61. The combination of claim 43, wherein the container includes a pair of protection ribs; a portion of the lock being disposed between the pair of protection ribs when the lock is in a locked position.
- 62. The combination of claim 61, wherein the protection ribs are attached to the base.
- 63. The combination of claim 43, wherein the lock may be removed from the storage container when the lock is in the unlocked position.
- 64. In combination, a lockable media storage container and a lock adapted to lock the media storage container in a closed and locked condition; the combination comprising:a storage container having a base and a lid hingedly connected to the base; the lid movable between open and closed positions; the base defining at least a fist locking hole; the lid defining at least a first locking hole; the lock having a locking member and a first locking finger connected together; the locking member slidable into the locking holes of the lid and base between unlocked and locked positions; the first locking finger movable between unlocked and locked positions, the first locking finger engaging the storage container in the locked position to prevent the lock from moving from the locked position to the unlocked position; the locking holes being positioned to create a shearing relationship with the locking member when said lid is initially moved from the closed position toward the open position; the first locking finger pivoting between the locked and unlocked positions; and an EAS tag carried by the lock.
- 65. The combination of claim 64, wherein the EAS tag is trapped between the lock and a portion of the storage container when the storage container is closed and the lock is in the locked position.
- 66. The combination of claim 65, wherein the lock defines a recess; the EAS tag being disposed in the recess.
- 67. In combination, a lockable media storage container and a lock adapted to lock the media storage container in a closed and locked condition; the combination comprising:a storage container having a base and a lid hingedly connected to the base; the lid movable between open and closed positions; the base defining at least a first locking hole; the lid defining at least a first locking hole; the lock having a locking member and a first locking finger connected together; the locking member slidable into the locking holes of the lid and base between unlocked and locked positions; the first locking finger pivotable between unlocked and locked positions, the first locking finger engaging the storage container in the locked position to prevent the lock from moving from the locked position to the unlocked position; the lock being readily removable from the base and lid when the lock finger is in the unlocked position; the first locking finger being pivotable from the locked position to the unlocked position with magnetic force; and a key having a magnet that pivots the lock finger from the locked position to the unlocked position when the key is placed adjacent the lock.
- 68. The combination of claim 67, further comprising an EAS tag carried by the lock.
