Claims
- 1. A locking cover plate for an open pipe end having a stortz-type fitting, said cover plate comprising a housing, said housing having a front surface and a side surface, a latching mechanism disposed generally rearward of said front surface of said housing, said latching mechanism comprising an actuator assembly and a torque interlock assembly, said actuator assembly comprising a drive bolt and said torque interlock assembly comprising a cam plate, said drive bolt being directed rearward from said front surface of said housing, a cam plate being connected to said drive bolt with a cam driver, said cam driver being rotationally coupled to said drive bolt and said cam plate being selectively coupled for rotation to said cam driver such that exceeding a preset torque on said cam plate causes rotation between said cam driver and said cam plate which disengages said cam plate from said drive bolt, said cam plate also being connected to a latch bar and a visual indicator that is adapted to indicate the locking status of said cover plate.
- 2. The cover plate of claim 1, where said indicator assembly comprises a drum that rotates about an axis that is generally parallel to said axis that extends through said drive bolt.
- 3. The cover plate of claim 2, wherein said drum comprises at least two different colors and said housing comprises an opening through which one of said colors is displayed when said latch bar is in a first position and a second of said colors is displayed when said latch bar is in a second position.
- 4. The cover plate of claim 1 further comprising a compressible member disposed along said drive bolt between said cam plate and a rigid member.
- 5. The cover plate of claim 4, wherein said drive bolt drives said cam plate toward said front surface when said cam plate and said cam driver are disengaged.
- 6. The cover plate of claim 4, wherein said drive bolt drives said cam plate away from said front surface when said cam plate and said cam driver are disengaged.
- 7. The cover plate of claim 4, wherein movement of said drive bolt in a first direction is capable of resulting in movement of said cam plate toward said front surface and movement of said latch bar outward from said side surface.
- 8. The cover plate of claim 4, wherein movement of said drive bolt in a first direction is capable of resulting in movement of said cam plate away from said front surface and movement of said latch bar inward toward said side surface.
- 9. A locking cover plate for an open pipe end having a stortz-type fitting, said cover plate comprising a latching mechanism and a housing, said housing comprising a stortz-type adapter ring, a plug, a back plate and a camlock cover, said adapter ring comprising a pair of opposing flanges and a wall that defines a central aperture, said plug being secured to said adapter ring, said plug comprising an indicator opening, an actuator opening and a latch bar channel, an indicator drum being positioned within said indicator opening, at least one window extending through said plug such that a portion of said indicator drum is exposed through said plug, said latching mechanism comprising a drive bolt, said drive bolt being rotationally coupled to a cam driver and a cam plate being positioned along said drive bolt, a biasing member being positioned between said cam plate and said plug, said cam driver and said cam plate being selectively coupled, said camlock cover and said plug defining therebetween a cam chamber and said cam plate and cam driver being disposed within said cam chamber, said cam plate being connected to a latch bar, and said latch bar being positioned within said latch bar channel and being capable extending laterally outward to engage an inner portion of the open pipe having a stortz-type fitting.
- 10. The cover plate of claim 9, wherein said latch bar is connected to said cam plate with a lost motion mechanism.
- 11. The cover plate of claim 9, wherein said drum comprises at least two different colors and said housing comprises an opening through which one of said colors is displayed when said latch bar is in a first position and a second of said colors is displayed when said latch bar is in a second position.
- 12. A locking cover plate for an open pipe end having a stortz-type fitting, said cover plate comprising a latching mechanism and a housing, said housing comprising an adapter ring and a plug, said adapter ring comprising a pair of opposing flanges, said plug being secured to said adapter ring, said plug comprising an indicator opening, an actuator opening and a latch bar channel, an indicator drum being positioned within said indicator opening, said latching mechanism comprising a drive bolt, said drive bolt being rotationally coupled to a cam driver and a cam plate being positioned along said drive bolt, said cam plate being capable of rotation and translation relative to said drive bolt, a biasing member being positioned between said cam plate and said plug, said cam driver and said cam plate being selectively coupled such that same cam plate rotates with said drive bolt when said cam plate and said cam driver are engaged and translates relative to said drive bolt when said cam plate and said cam driver are disengaged, said cam plate being connected to a latch bar, said latch bar being connected to said indicator drum and said latch bar being positioned within said latch bar channel and being capable extending laterally outward to engage an inner portion of the open pipe having a stortz-type fitting.
- 13. The cover plate of claim 12, wherein said latch bar is connected to said cam plate with a lost motion mechanism.
- 14. The cover plate of claim 12, wherein said drum comprises at least two different colors and said housing comprises an opening through which one of said colors is displayed when said latch bar is in a first position and a second of said colors is displayed when said latch bar is in a second position.
- 15. A locking cover plate for an open pipe end having a stortz-type fitting, said cover plate comprising a latching mechanism and a housing, said housing comprising a pair of opposing flanges, said housing comprising an indicator opening, an actuator opening and a latch bar channel, an indicator drum being positioned within said indicator opening, said latching mechanism comprising a drive bolt and a latch bar, a cam driver being rotationally coupled to said drive bolt and a cam plate being disposed about a portion of said drive bolt, said cam plate being capable of rotation and translation relative to said drive bolt, said cam driver and said cam plate being selectively coupled such that same cam plate rotates with said drive bolt when said cam plate and said cam driver are engaged and translates relative to said drive bolt when said cam plate and said cam driver are disengaged, said cam plate being connected to a latch bar, said latch bar being connected to said indicator drum and said latch bar being positioned within said latch bar channel and being capable extending laterally outward to engage an inner portion of the open pipe having a stortz-type fitting.
- 16. The cover plate of claim 15 further comprising a biasing member that is positioned between said cam plate and said housing such that movement of said cam driver toward said housing compresses said biasing member.
- 17. The cover plate of claim 15, wherein said latch bar is connected to said cam plate with a lost motion mechanism.
- 18. The cover plate of claim 15, wherein said drum comprises at least two different colors and said housing comprises an opening through which one of said colors is displayed when said latch bar is in a first position and a second of said colors is displayed when said latch bar is in a second position.
