Claims
- 1. A wheelchair lift for transporting a passenger in relation to a vehicle, the lift having a motion pattern between a loading position, an entry position and a stowed position, said lift comprising:
- a platform structure for carrying a passenger;
- a pivotal mechanism affixed to said platform structure and affixed to said vehicle for moving said platform structure between said loading position, said entry position, and said stowed position;
- a bridge structure including a bridge plate for bridging a space between said platform structure and said vehicle while in the entry position;
- a cam mechanism actuated by said pivotal mechanism to variously raise and lower said bridge plate in accordance with the position of said of said platform structure;
- a hydraulic apparatus for activating said pivotal mechanism for moving said platform structure between select of said positions; and,
- said hydraulic apparatus having a hydraulic flow control structure connected in a circuit with said hydraulic apparatus to control said motion patterns, said hydraulic flow control structure including a plurality of passages and a moving orifice member in at least one of said passages for selectively attenuating flow through said passage.
- 2. A wheelchair lift according to claim 1 wherein said pivotal mechanism includes at least one pair of lower supporting pivot bars and at least one upper parallelogram structure linked for distinct pivotal motion patterns.
- 3. A wheelchair lift according to claim 2 wherein said lower supporting pivot bars and said upper parallelogram structure are releasably interlocked in sliding engagement while said platform moves between select of said positions.
- 4. A wheelchair lift according to claim 1 wherein said hydraulic apparatus includes a source of hydraulic actuating fluid, a pump means for pumping said fluid and wherein said hydraulic flow control structure further includes a valve means.
- 5. The wheelchair lift according to claim 4 wherein said hydraulic flow control structure controls the speed of said pivotal mechanism as it moves between said positions.
- 6. A wheelchair lift according to claim 4 wherein said hydraulic apparatus further includes at least one hydraulic cylinder operably connected with said pivotal mechanism to actuate movement of said pivotal mechanism between select of said positions.
- 7. A wheelchair lift according to claim 1 wherein said bridge structure further includes a base affixed to said vehicle and said base defines a well to lockingly receive said bridge plate.
- 8. A wheelchair lift according to claim 7 further comprising a crank mechanism affixed to extend into said well to lockingly engage said bridge plate.
- 9. A wheelchair lift according to claim 8 wherein said bridge plate releasably locks to said base when said platform structure is in the stowed position.
- 10. A wheelchair lift for transporting a passenger in relation to a vehicle, the lift having a motion pattern between a loading position, an entry position and a stowed position, said lift comprising:
- a platform structure for carrying a passenger;
- a pivotal mechanism affixed to said platform structure and affixed to said vehicle for moving said platform structure between said loading position, said entry position, and said stowed position;
- said pivotal mechanism including at least one pair of lower supporting pivot bars and at least one upper parallelogram structure, said lower supporting pivot bars and said upper parallelogram structure being releasably interlocked in sliding engagement while said platform structure moves between select of said positions;
- a bridge structure including a bridge plate for bridging a space between said platform structure and said vehicle while in the entry position; and,
- a cam mechanism actuated by said pivotal mechanism to variously raise and lower said bridge plate in accordance with the position of said platform structure.
- 11. The wheelchair lift of claim 10 wherein said wheelchair lift further includes a hydraulic apparatus for activating said pivotal mechanism for moving said platform between select of said positions.
- 12. The wheelchair lift of claim 11 wherein said hydraulic apparatus for activating said pivotal mechanism includes a source of hydraulic actuating fluid, a pump means for pumping said fluid and a hydraulic flow control structure operably connected with said pivotal mechanism to control said motion patterns of said platform.
- 13. The wheelchair lift of claim 10 wherein a stud affixed to said lower supporting pivot bars releasably interlocks into a slot defined in said upper parallelogram when said platform moves between select of said positions.
- 14. A wheelchair lift according to claim 10 wherein said bridge structure further includes a base adapted to be affixed to said vehicle and said base defines a well to lockingly receive said bridge plate.
- 15. A wheelchair lift according to claim 14 further comprising a crank mechanism affixed to extend into said well to lockingly engage said bridge plate.
- 16. A wheelchair lift for transporting a passenger in relation to a vehicle including, the lift having a motion pattern between a loading position, an entry position and a stowed position, said lift comprising:
- a platform structure for carrying a passenger;
- a pivotal mechanism affixed to said platform structure and affixed to said vehicle for moving said platform structure between said loading position, said entry position, and said stowed position;
- said pivotal mechanism including at least one pair of lower supporting pivot bars and at least one upper parallelogram structure, said lower supporting pivot bars and said upper parallelogram structure being releasably interlocked in sliding engagement while said platform structure moves between select of said positions; and,
- a hydraulic apparatus for activating said pivotal mechanism for moving said platform structure between select of said positions.
- 17. The wheelchair lift of claim 16 further including a bridge structure with a bridge plate for bridging a space between said platform structure and said vehicle while in the entry position and a cam mechanism actuated by said pivotal mechanism to variously raise and lower said bridge plate in accordance with the position of said platform structure.
- 18. A wheelchair lift according to claim 17 wherein said bridge structure further includes a base adapted to be affixed to said vehicle and said base defines a well to lockingly receive said bridge plate.
- 19. A wheelchair lift according to claim 16 wherein said hydraulic apparatus includes a source of hydraulic actuating fluid, a pump means for pumping said fluid and a hydraulic flow control structure connected in a circuit with said pivotal mechanism to control said motion patterns of said platform.
- 20. A wheelchair lift for transporting a passenger in relation to a vehicle, the lift having a motion pattern between a loading position, an entry position and a stowed position, said lift comprising:
- a platform structure for carrying a passenger;
- a pivotal mechanism affixed to said platform structure and affixed to said vehicle for moving said platform structure between said loading position, said entry position, and said stowed position;
- a bridge structure including a bridge plate for bridging a space between said platform structure and said vehicle while in the entry position;
- a cam mechanism actuated by said pivotal mechanism to variously raise and lower said bridge plate in accordance with the position of said platform structure;
- said bridge structure further including a base affixed to said vehicle and said base defining a well to lockingly receive said bridge plate;
- said bridge plate adapted to releasably lock to said well when said platform structure moves to the stowed position; and,
- a hydraulic apparatus for activating said pivotal mechanism for moving said platform structure between select of said positions.
- 21. A wheelchair lift according to claim 20 further comprising a crank mechanism affixed to extend into said well to lockingly engage said bridge plate.
- 22. A wheelchair lift according to claim 20 wherein said hydraulic apparatus includes a source of hydraulic actuating fluid, a pump means for pumping said fluid and wherein said hydraulic flow control structure further includes a valve means.
- 23. A wheelchair lift for transporting a passenger to ingress and egress in relation to a vehicle, the lift having a motion pattern between a loading position, an entry position and a stowed position, said lift comprising:
- a platform structure for carrying a passenger;
- a pivotal mechanism affixed to said platform structure and affixed to said vehicle for moving said platform structure between said loading position, said entry position and said stowed position;
- a bridge plate pivotally affixed to said platform structure contiguous to said vehicle;
- a cam mechanism actuated by said pivotal mechanism wherein said cam mechanism is designed to move said bridge plate so that said bridge plate remains vertical or substantially vertical in relation to said platform structure thereby acting as a roll stop while said platform is in the loading position and as the platform moves from the loading position to the entry position wherein the bridge plate begins its movement from the vertical or substantially vertical position to the horizontal or substantially horizontal position before the platform ends its motion pattern from the loading position to the entry position;
- said cam mechanism actuated by said pivotal mechanism wherein said cam mechanism is designed to move said bridge plate so that said bridge plate moves from the horizontal or substantially horizontal position to the vertical or substantially vertical position in relation to said platform structure as said platform structure moves from the entry position to the loading position and said bridge plate thereafter remains in the vertical or substantially vertical position as said platform moves to the loading position and while in the loading position;
- said bridge plate remaining horizontal or substantially horizontal thereby bridging the gap between the platform structure and the vehicle when the platform is in the entry position; and,
- said cam mechanism comprises a cable for connecting said cam mechanism to said bridge plate.
- 24. A wheelchair lift for transporting a passenger to ingress and egress in relation to a vehicle, the lift having a motion pattern between a loading position, an entry position and a stowed position, said lift comprising:
- a platform structure for carrying a passenger;
- a pivotal mechanism affixed to said platform structure and affixed to said vehicle for moving said platform structure between said loading position, said entry position and said stowed position;
- a bridge plate pivotally affixed to said platform structure contiguous to said vehicle;
- a cam mechanism actuated by said pivotal mechanism wherein said cam mechanism is designed to move said bridge plate so that said bridge plate remains vertical or substantially vertical in relation to said platform structure thereby acting as a roll stop while said platform is in the loading position and as the platform moves from the loading position to the entry position wherein the bridge plate begins its movement from the vertical or substantially vertical position to the horizontal or substantially horizontal position before the platform ends its motion pattern from the loading position to the entry position;
- said cam mechanism actuated by said pivotal mechanism wherein said cam mechanism is designed to move said bridge plate so that said bridge plate moves from the horizontal or substantially horizontal position to the vertical or substantially vertical position in relation to said platform structure as said platform structure moves from the entry position to the loading position and said bridge plate thereafter remains in the vertical or substantially vertical position as said platform moves to the loading position and while in the loading position;
- said bridge plate remaining horizontal or substantially horizontal thereby bridging the gap between the platform structure and the vehicle when the platform is in the entry position; and,
- wherein said bridge plate has a lock block attached thereto and said vehicle has a well for receiving said lock block of said bridge plate to releasably lock said bridge plate and said platform structure while said platform is in the stowed position.
