Claims
- 1. A wheelchair lift for transporting a passenger in relation to a vehicle and including motion patterns between a loading position, an entry position and a stowed position, said lift comprising:
- a platform structure for carrying a passenger;
- a pivotal mechanism attached to said platform structure and adapted to be affixed to said vehicle for moving said platform structure between said loading position, said entry position and said stowed position; and
- a bridge structure affixed to said platform structure for bridging a space between said platform structure in said entry position and said vehicle and locking said platform structure to said vehicle in said stowed position.
- 2. A wheelchair lift according to claim 1 wherein said pivotal mechanism comprises a parallelogram mechanism and drive means for opening and closing said parallelogram mechanism to move said platform structure.
- 3. A wheelchair lift according to claim 1 wherein said pivotal mechanism includes at least one pair of parallelogram structures interconnected to variously open and close and drive means for activating said parallelogram structures to move said platform structure.
- 4. A wheelchair lift according to claim 3 including two of said pairs of parallelogram structures, such pair of parallelogram structures being mounted at opposed sides of said platform structure.
- 5. A wheelchair lift according to claim 3 wherein said one pair of parallelogram structures are interlocked to move said platform structure between selected of said positions.
- 6. A wheelchair lift according to claim 5 wherein said parallelogram structures are interlocked in sliding relationships to move said platform structure between said entry and said stowed positions.
- 7. A wheelchair lift according to claim 3 wherein said pivotal mechanism further includes cam means affixed to said parallelogram structures for activating said bridge structure in accordance with movement of said platform structure.
- 8. A wheelchair lift according to claim 5 wherein said pivotal mechanism further includes cam means affixed to said parallelogram structures for activating said bridge structure in accordance with movement of said platform structure.
- 9. A wheelchair lift according to claim 1 wherein said bridge structure includes a plate pivotally affixed to said platform structure, said plate defining a lock block for engagement to lock said platform structure in said stowed position.
- 10. A wheelchair lift according to claim 9 wherein said bridge structure further includes a base, adapted to be fixed to said vehicle and defining a well to lockingly receive said lock block.
- 11. A wheelchair lift according to claim 10 further comprising a crank mechanism affixed to extend into said well to lockingly engage said lock block.
- 12. A wheelchair lift according to claim 11 wherein said crank mechanism includes a release mechanism comprising a spring column and a solenoid for displacing said spring.
- 13. A wheelchair lift according to claim 12 wherein said pivotal mechanism comprises a hydraulic drive system for moving said platform structure.
- 14. A wheelchair lift according to claim 13 wherein said pivotal mechanism further includes cam means affixed to said parallelogram structures for activating said bridge structure in accordance with movement of said platform structure and including cable means for connecting said cam means.
- 15. A wheelchair lift for transporting a passenger in relation to a vehicle and including motion patterns between a loading position, an entry position and a stowed position, said lift comprising:
- a platform structure for carrying a passenger;
- a pivotal mechanism attached to said platform structure and adapted to be affixed to said vehicle for moving said platform structure between said loading position, said entry position and said stowed position;
- a plate means pivotally affixed to said platform structure contiguous to said vehicle; and
- cam means actuated by said pivotal mechanism to variously raise and lower said plate means in accordance with the position of said platform structure, said cam means positions said plate means in locking engagement with said vehicle in said stowed position, in bridging position from said platform structure to said vehicle in said entry position, and in roll stop position moving between said entry and loading positions.
