Claims
- 1. A log debarker comprising:
- a rotating debarking assembly,
- a feed means for feeding logs through said rotating debarking assembly,
- a double-acting air cylinder means operatively connected to said feed means for adjusting the position of said feed means,
- said double-acting air cylinder means including a sliding piston defining at least in part first and second chambers on opposite first and second sides thereof, respectively, and
- said double-acting air cylinder means including a first quick exhaust means connected to said first chamber for maintaining a limited pressure cushion in said first chamber and a second quick exhaust means connected to said second chamber for maintaining a limited pressure cushion in said second chamber.
- 2. The log debarker of claim 1 including,
- said feed means feeding logs along a longitudinal axis through said rotating debarking assembly, and
- said double-acting cylinder means adjusting the position of said feed means generally radially relative to said longitudinal axis.
- 3. The log debarker of claim 1 including,
- said feed means being positioned on the infeed side of said rotating debarking assembly.
- 4. The log debarker of claim 1 including,
- said feed means being positioned on the outfeed side of said rotating debarking assembly.
- 5. The log debarker of claim 1 including,
- a solenoid valve operatively associated with said first chamber and, when activated permitting air to be forced into said first chamber to jog open said feed means.
- 6. The log debarker 5 including,
- said solenoid valve when deactivated permitting pressure to be dumped out of said first chamber through said first quick exhaust means.
- 7. The log debarker of claim 6 including,
- said double-acting cylinder including a piston rod attached at one end to said sliding piston on said second side, and
- said piston rod being connected at its other end to said feed means.
- 8. The log debarker of claim 1 including,
- said feed means including an infeed means positioned on the infeed side of said rotating debarking assembly and an outfeed means positioned on the outfeed side of said rotating debarking assembly,
- said double-acting cylinder means being operatively connected to said infeed means, and
- a second double-acting air cylinder means operatively connected to said outfeed means.
- 9. The log debarker of claim 8 including,
- an air supply feeding said double-acting air cylinder means and said second double-acting air cylinder means.
- 10. The log debarker of claim 9 including,
- said air supply including an air filter.
- 11. The log debarker of claim 1 including,
- said first quick exhaust means including a first air regulator, and
- said second double-acting air cylinder means including at least a second air regulator.
- 12. The log debarker of claim 1 including,
- said first and second quick exhaust means preventing said sliding piston from slapping either end of said double-acting air cylinder means.
- 13. The log debarker of claim 1 including,
- said rotating debarking assembly including a frame, a stator supported by said frame, a rotatable rotor journaled in said stator for rotation about a longitudinal axis of said rotor, and a plurality of debarking tools attached to said rotatable rotor and rotatable therewith.
- 14. The log debarker of claim 1 including,
- said feed means including at least three log-engaging feed rolls positioned on one side of said rotating debarking assembly.
- 15. The log debarker of claim 14 including,
- said feed means comprising three feed rolls defining a generally equilateral triangle about the log being fed through said rotating debarking assembly.
- 16. The log debarker of claim 1 including,
- said feed means including first, second and third triangularly-disposed, log-engaging feed rolls, a first link connecting said first and second feed rolls, and a second link connecting said second and third feed rolls.
- 17. The log debarker of claim 16 including,
- said first link being a rigid link and directly connected at one end to said first feed roll and directly connected at its opposite end to said second feed roll.
- 18. The log debarker of claim 16 including,
- said sliding piston being directly connected to said second feed roll.
- 19. The log debarker of claim 1 including,
- said first quick exhaust means including a first air pressure regulator, and
- said second quick exhaust means including a second air pressure regulator.
- 20. The log debarker of claim 1 including,
- said first quick exhaust means including a quick jog activating solenoid.
- 21. The log debarker of claim 1 including,
- a frame to which said rotating debarking assembly and said feed means are attached.
- 22. The log debarker of claim 1 including,
- said pressure cushion in said second chamber being sufficient to hold said feed means against said log for feeding logs through said rotating debarking assembly.
