Claims
- 1. A membrane for a membrane-type loudspeaker, comprising
- (a) a plurality of generally planar layers of flexible material having the same widths and different lengths; and
- (b) a pattern of conductor material mounted on each of said layers of flexible material, the conductor material on at least two of said layers having a different mass, said layers of flexible material being connected together in stacked relation with said conductor material being sandwiched between adjacent layers to define along the length of the membrane areas of greater thickness and greater conductor mass and areas of lesser thickness and less conductor mass for bass and treble responses, respectively.
- 2. A membrane as defined in claim 1, wherein said layers of flexible material are formed of an integral piece of material folded to define said stacked multi-layer membrane.
- 3. A membrane as defined in claim 2, wherein said conductor material comprises a zig-zag layer of thin metal foil.
- 4. A membrane as defined in claim 3, and further comprising adhesive means for securing said layers of membrane material together in stacked relation.
- 5. A membrane as defined in claim 4, wherein said layers of conductor material on said folded layers of membrane material are electrically connected for receiving sound signal currents from a source.
- 6. A filter for a dipole loudspeaker having a driver, comprising
- (a) a housing including front, rear, top, bottom, and side walls defining a chamber, said front and rear walls containing aligned openings communicating with said chamber, the loudspeaker drive comprising a membrane connected with said housing front wall and covering said front wall opening, whereby low frequencies are attenuated without impeding long excursion of the membrane; and
- (b) reflecting means comprising at least one layer of cloth material connected with said housing rear wall and covering said rear wall opening for obliquely reflecting high frequency components from the rear of the loudspeaker.
- 7. A loudspeaker filter as defined in claim 6, wherein said rear wall contains a plurality of apertures communicating with said chamber, said apertures being arranged adjacent said top wall.
