Claims
- 1. A fast curing silicone polymer/resin composition having low compression set comprising:
- (a) a silicone component of the general formula:
- MM.sup.vi QD
- wherein
- M is R.sub.3 SiO.sub.1/2 ;
- M.sup.vi is CH.sub.2 .dbd.CHR.sup.1.sub.2 R.sub.2 SiO.sub.1/2 ;
- Q is SiO.sub.4/2 ; and
- D is R.sub.2 SiO.sub.2/2,
- wherein the ratio of D units to Q units is from about 0.5:1 to about 8:1 and wherein the ratio of M and M.sup.vi units is from 1.1 to about 2.0; wherein each R is independently alkyl of from 1 to about 8 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl of from 5 to about 10 carbon atoms or aryl of from 6 to about 12 carbon atoms: R.sup.1 is alkylene of from 1 to about 10 carbon atoms and z is 0 or 1;
- (b) a vinyl containing diorganopolysiloxane of the formula:
- M.sup.vi D.sub.x M.sup.vi
- where M.sup.vi is as defined as above, D is as defined above, and x is an integer whereby the viscosity of M.sup.vi D.sub.x M.sup.vi is from about 100 to about 200,000 centipoise at 25.degree. C.;
- (c) from 0.1 to 50 parts per million of the total composition of a platinum catalyst; and
- (d) from 0.1 to 25 parts by weight of a curing agent selected from the group consisting of hydrogen containing silanes and hydrogen containing polysiloxanes and mixtures thereof;
- whereby the compression set of said composition is reduced by at least about 20%.
- 2. A fast curing low compression set silicon polymer/resin composition as defined in claim 1 wherein said D/Q ratio ranges from about 0.6:1 to about 5:1.
- 3. A fast curing low compression set silicon polymer/resin composition as defined in claim 2 wherein said D/Q ratio ranges from about 0.9:1 to about 2:1.
- 4. A fast curing low compression set silicon polymer/resin composition as defined in claim 1 further comprising a filler.
- 5. A fast curing low compression set silicon polymer resin composition as defined in claim 4 herein said filler is selected from the group consisting of titanium dioxide, lithopone, zinc oxide, zirconium silicate, silica aerogel, iron oxide, diatomaceous earth, calcium carbonate, fumed silica, silazane treated silica, precipitated silica, glass fibers, magnesium oxide, chromic oxide, zirconium oxide, aluminum oxide, alpha quartz, calcined clay, asbestos, carbon, graphite, cork, cotton, synthetic fibers and mixtures of any of the foregoing.
- 6. A fast curing low compression set silicon polymer/resin composition as defined in claim 5 wherein said filler is selected from the group consisting of fumed silica, silazane treated silica, calcium carbonate and mixture of any of the foregoing.
- 7. A fast curing low compression set silicon polymer/resin composition as defined in claim 1 further comprising from 100 to 100,000 parts per million of an inhibitor compound selected from the group consisting of vinyl-containing organocyclotetrasiloxane, trialkyl cyanurate, alkyl maleate, acetylenic compounds and mixtures of any of the foregoing.
- 8. A fast curing low compression set silicon polymer/resin composition as defined in claim 1 further comprising at least 0.001 parts by weight of an inhibitor compound having at least one hydroperoxy radical of the formula --C--O--O--H.
- 9. A thermally stable gasket having a low compression set and comprising a heat cured composition as defined in claim 1.
- 10. A thermally stable gasket having a low compression set and comprising a heat cured filled composition as defined in claim 1.
- 11. A fast curing liquid silicone, elastomer organopolysiloxane composition as defined in claim 1 wherein said D/Q ratio ranges from about 0.6:1 to about 5:1.
- 12. A fast curing liquid silicone elastomer organopolysiloxane composition as defined in claim 1 wherein said D/Q ratio ranges from about 0.9:1 to about 2:1.
- 13. A fast curing liquid silicone elastomer organopolysiloxane composition as defined in claim 1 further composing (e) a filler.
- 14. A fast curing liquid silicone elastomer organopolysiloxane composition as defined in claim 13 wherein said filler is selected from the group consisting of titanium dioxide, lithopone, zinc oxide, zirconium silicate, silica aerogel, iron oxide, diatomaceous earth, calcium carbonate, fumed silica, silazane treated silica, precipitated silica, glass fibers, magnesium oxide, chromic oxide, zirconium oxide, aluminum oxide, alpha quartz, calcined clay, asbestos, carbon, graphite, cork, cotton, synthetic fibers and mixtures of any of the foregoing.
- 15. A fast curing liquid silicone elastomer organopolysiloxane composition as defined in claim 14 wherein said filler is selected from the group consisting of fumed silica, silazane treated silica, calcium carbonate and mixtures of any of the foregoing.
- 16. A fast curing liquid silicone elastomer organopolysiloxane composition as defined in claim 1 further comprising from 100 to 100,000 parts per million of an inhibitor compound selected from the group consisting of vinyl-containing organocyclotetrasiloxane, trialkyl cyanurate, alkyl maleate, acetylenic compounds and mixtures of any of the foregoing.
- 17. A fast curing liquid silicone elastomer organopolysiloxane composition as defined in claim 1 further comprising at least 0.001 parts by weight of an inhibitor compound having at least one hydroperoxy radical of the formula --C--O--O--H.
- 18. A thermally stable gasket having a low compression set and comprising a heat cured composition as defined in claim 1.
- 19. A thermally stable gasket having a low compression set and comprising a heat cured filled composition as defined in claim 3.
- 20. The composition of claim 1 wherein the vinyl containing diorganopolysiloxane has the formula:
- M.sup.vi D.sub.x M.sup.vi
- where M.sup.vi has the formula:
- CH.sub.2 .dbd.CHR.sup.1.sub.z R.sub.2 SiO.sub.1/2
- with z=0 and R=CH.sub.3 defining a diorganovinylsiloxy group wherein the diorganovinylsiloxy content of said diorganopolysiloxane varies from 0.015 to 2.6 mole percent.
- 21. The composition of claim 1 wherein the ratio of D units to Q units of said a silicone component of the general formula, MM.sup.vi QD, ranges from about 0.5:1 to about 8:1.
