Claims
- 1. A method for producing hydrogen and carbon black from hydrocarbon gases comprising mixing said hydrocarbon gases with a source of pyrolytic carbon and applying radiofrequency energy to the mixture.
- 2. The method according to claim 1 wherein a hydrogen-containing gas contacts the source of pyrolytic carbon.
- 3. The method according to claim 2 wherein the hydrogen-containing gas is steam.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein the source of pyrolytic carbon is char produced from gasification of coal.
- 5. The method according to claim 4 wherein said char is produced by mild gasification of coal.
- 6. The method according to claim 1 wherein the hydrocarbon gases are selected from the group consisting of methane, ethane, and mixtures thereof.
- 7. The method according to claim 1 wherein ferric oxide is added to the mixture to remove sulfur-containing gases.
- 8. The method according to claim 1 wherein the product gas produced flows countercurrent to the source of pyrolytic carbon char during the application of radiofrequency energy.
- 9. The method according to claim 1 wherein the radiofrequency energy ranges from 2450 to 5000 MHz.
- 10. The method according to claim 1 wherein the exit gas temperature is less than 180.degree. F.
- 11. The method according to claim 1 wherein the radiofrequency energy further comprises delivery by low frequency pulsing at approximately 60 cycles per second.
