Claims
- 1. A method of stabilizing the fatty phase of a cosmetic or an essential oil having a fatty phase by admixing said fatty phase with an oxidation-protective amount of an antioxidant composition consisting essentially of solid ascorbic acid particles which are less than about 38 microns in size on their longest dimension, optionally suspended in a medium in which they are insoluble.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the antioxidant composition comprises an orally-ingestible nonionic surface-active agent.
- 3. A stabilized cosmetic or essential oil composition having a fatty phase wherein the fatty phase has been stabilized, comprising a cosmetic or essential oil having a fatty phase and an oxidation-protective amount of an antioxidant composition consisting essentially of solid ascorbic acid particles which are less than about 38 microns in size on their longest dimension, optionally suspended in a medium in which they are insoluble.
- 4. A stabilized cosmetic or essential oil composition of claim 3, wherein the antioxidant composition comprises a non-ionic surface-active agent.
- 5. A composition of claim 3, wherein at least about 50% of the solid ascorbic acid particles are less than about 10 microns in size on their largest dimension.
- 6. A composition of claim 3, wherein the solid ascorbic acid particles are about 20 microns or less on their largest dimension.
- 7. A composition of claim 1, wherein the antioxidant composition comprises a non-ionic surface-active agent.
- 8. A composition of claim 1, wherein at least about 50% of the solid ascorbic acid particles are less than about 10 microns in size on their largest dimension.
- 9. The method of claim 1, wherein the solid ascorbic acid particles are about 20 microns or less on their largest dimension.
- 10. A method of claim 1 wherein the essential oil stabilized is an oil selected from the group consisting of orange oil, black pepper oil, peppermint oil, dill oil, lemon oil, and castor oil, or a cosmetic comprising one of the oils.
- 11. A method of claim 3, wherein the essential oil stabilized is an oil selected from the group consisting of orange oil, black pepper oil, peppermint oil, dill oil, lemon oil, and castor oil, or a cosmetic comprising one of the oils.
