Claims
- 1. A composition that comprises a single phase melt containing 1) a polyarylene ether and 2) an engineering thermoplastic polyurethane having a) a Tg of at least 50° C. and b) a number average molecular weight of not greater than about 10000, and not less than 2000 amu; wherein the polyarylene ether is represented by the formula:
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein the polyarylene ether is poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene) ether or the copolymer obtained by the polymerization of 2,6-dimethyl phenol and 2,3,6-trimethyl phenol.
- 3. The composition of claim 2 wherein the polyarylene ether is poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene) ether.
- 4. The composition of claim 1 wherein the engineering thermoplastic polyurethane has a number average molecular weight of not greater than about 7500, and not less than 3000 amu.
- 5. The composition of claim 4 wherein the weight-to-weight ratio of the polyarylene ether and the engineering thermoplastic polyurethane is not less than 60:40 and not greater than 85:15.
- 6. The composition of claim 4 wherein the weight-to-weight ratio of the polyarylene ether and the engineering thermoplastic polyurethane is not less than 65:35 and not greater than 75:25.
- 7. A two-phase solid composite that comprises 1) a polyarylene ether and 2) an engineering thermoplastic polyurethane having a) a Tg of at least 50° C. and b) a number average molecular weight of not greater than about 10,000, and not less than 2000 amu; wherein the polyarylene ether is represented by the formula:
- 8. The two-phase composite of claim 7 wherein the polyarylene ether is poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene) ether.
