Claims
- 1. A film of amorphous carbon comprising a surface and comprising a quantity of sulfur comprising a dispersion in said film, said quantity and said dispersion being effective to produce a reduced coefficient of friction at said surface compared to a coefficient of friction of an amorphous carbon surface absent said sulfur.
- 2. A film of amorphous carbon comprising a surface and comprising a quantity of sulfur comprising a dispersion in said film, said quantity and said dispersion being effective to produce a coefficient of friction at said surface of 0.1 or less.
- 3. A film of amorphous carbon comprising a surface and comprising a quantity of sulfur comprising a dispersion in said film, said quantity and said dispersion being effective to produce a coefficient of friction at said surface of less than 0.1.
- 4. A film of amorphous carbon comprising a surface and comprising a quantity of sulfur comprising a dispersion in said film, said quantity and said dispersion being effective to produce a coefficient of friction at said surface of about 0.03 or less.
- 5. The film of claim 1 wherein said quantity is about 27 to about 31 weight percent.
- 6. The film of claim 2 wherein said quantity is about 27 to about 31 weight percent.
- 7. The film of claim 3 wherein said quantity is about 27 to about 31 weight percent.
- 8. The film of claim 4 wherein said quantity is about 27 to about 31 weight percent.
- 9. The film of claim 5 wherein said quantity further comprises silicon.
- 10. The film of claim 6 wherein said quantity further comprises silicon.
- 11. The film of claim 7 wherein said quantity further comprises silicon.
- 12. The film of claim 8 wherein said quantity further comprises silicon.
- 13. The film of claim 1 wherein said quantity further comprises an amount of fluorine.
- 14. The film of claim 2 wherein said quantity further comprises an amount of fluorine.
- 15. The film of claim 3 wherein said quantity further comprises an amount of fluorine.
- 16. The film of claim 4 wherein said quantity further comprises an amount of fluorine.
- 17. The film of claim 13 wherein said quantity further comprises silicon.
- 18. The film of claim 14 wherein said quantity further comprises silicon.
- 19. The film of claim 15 wherein said quantity further comprises silicon.
- 20. The film of claim 16 wherein said quantity further comprises silicon.
- 21. The film of claim 1 wherein said quantity further comprises silicon.

- 25. A film of amorphous carbon comprising a surface and comprising a quantity of sulfur comprising a dispersion in said film, said quantity and said dispersion being effective to produce a reduced coefficient of friction at said surface compared to a coefficient of friction of an amorphous carbon surface in the absence of said sulfur, said film having mechanical strength adapted to resist friction and wear.
- 26. A film of amorphous carbon comprising a surface and comprising a quantity of sulfur comprising a dispersion in said film, said quantity and said dispersion of sulfur being effective to produce a coefficient of friction at said surface of 0.1 or less, said film having mechanical strength adapted to resist friction and wear.
- 27. A film of amorphous carbon comprising a surface and comprising a quantity of sulfur comprising a dispersion in said film, said quantity and said dispersion being effective to produce a coefficient of friction at said surface of less than 0.1, said film having mechanical strength adapted to resist friction and wear.
- 28. A film of amorphous carbon comprising a surface and comprising a quantity of sulfur comprising a dispersion in said film, said quantity and said dispersion being effective to produce a coefficient of friction at said surface of about 0.03 or less, said film having mechanical strength adapted to resist friction and wear.
- 29. The film of claim 25 wherein said quantity is about 27 to about 31 weight percent.
- 30. The film of claim 26 wherein said quantity is about 27 to about 31 weight percent.
- 31. The film of claim 27 wherein said quantity is about 27 to about 31 weight percent.
- 32. The film of claim 28 wherein said quantity is about 27 to about 31 weight percent.
- 33. The film of claim 29 wherein said quantity further comprises an amount of fluorine.
- 34. The film of claim 30 wherein said quantity further comprises an amount of fluorine.
- 35. The film of claim 31 wherein said quantity further comprises an amount of fluorine.
- 36. The film of claim 32 wherein said quantity further comprises an amount of fluorine.
- 37. A lubricious amorphous carbon film comprising a surface and comprising means comprising sulfur for producing a reduced coefficient of friction at said surface.
- 38. The film of claim 37 wherein said means comprising sulfur for producing a reduced coefficient of friction is effective to produce a coefficient of friction at said surface of 0.1 or less.
- 39. The film of claim 37 wherein said means comprising sulfur for producing a reduced coefficient of friction is effective to produce a coefficient of friction at said surface of less than 0.1.
- 40. The film of claim 38 wherein said means comprising sulfur for producing a reduced coefficient of friction is effective to produce a coefficient of friction at said surface of 0.03 or less.
- 41. An apparatus comprising a film of amorphous carbon comprising a surface and comprising a quantity of sulfur dispersed in said film, said quantity being effective to produce a reduced coefficient of friction at said surface compared to a coefficient of friction of an amorphous carbon surface absent said sulfur.
- 42. An apparatus comprising a film of amorphous carbon comprising a surface and comprising a quantity of sulfur dispersed in said film, said quantity being effective to produce a coefficient of friction at said surface of 0.1 or less.
- 43. An apparatus comprising a film of amorphous carbon comprising a surface and comprising a quantity of sulfur dispersed in said film, said quantity being effective to produce a coefficient of friction at said surface of less than 0.1.
- 44. An apparatus comprising a film of amorphous carbon comprising a surface and comprising a quantity of sulfur dispersed in said film, said quantity being effective to produce a coefficient of friction at said surface of about 0.03 or less.
- 45. The apparatus of claim 41 wherein said quantity is about 27 to about 31 weight percent.
- 46. The apparatus of claim 42 wherein said quantity is about 27 to about 31 weight percent.
- 47. The apparatus of claim 43 wherein said quantity is about 27 to about 31 weight percent.
- 48. The apparatus of claim 44 wherein said quantity is about 27 to about 31 weight percent.
- 49. The apparatus of claim 41 wherein said quantity further comprises an amount of fluorine.
- 50. The apparatus of claim 42 wherein said quantity further comprises an amount of fluorine.

An apparatus comprising a film of amorphous carbon comprising a surface and comprising a quantity of sulfur dispersed in said film, said quantity being effective to produce a coefficient of friction at said surface of 0.1 or less, said film having mechanical strength adapted to resist friction and wear.
- 59. An apparatus comprising a film of amorphous carbon comprising a surface and comprising a quantity of sulfur dispersed in said film, said quantity being effective to produce a coefficient of friction at said surface of less than 0.1, said film having mechanical strength adapted to resist friction and wear.
- 60. An apparatus comprising a film of amorphous carbon comprising a surface and comprising a quantity of sulfur dispersed in said film, said quantity of sulfur being effective to produce a coefficient of friction at said surface of about 0.03 or less, said film having mechanical strength adapted to resist friction and wear.
- 61. The apparatus of claim 57 wherein said quantity is about 27 to about 31 weight percent.
- 62. The apparatus of claim 58 wherein said quantity is about 27 to about 31 weight percent.
- 63. The apparatus of claim 59 wherein said quantity is about 27 to about 31 weight percent.
