Claims
- 1. A machine for stuffing pitted olives comprising means to feed and fold a strip of stuffing material, means to cut stuffing pieces from said strip comprising a plate mounted for rotation, a strip cutting member fixedly carried by said plate comprising a first arm extending radially of said plate and a second arm extending tangentially of said plate terminating in a knife edge at its leading end, a pivotally and yieldingly mounted anvil member disposed at one side of said folded strip in backup relation to the terminal end of said folded strip and in the path of movement of said strip cutting member and operable initially to support said strip to enable the cutting off of a stuffing piece by said knife edge and then to pivot out of the way of said knife edge as the latter moves by, a blade member slidably carried by said plate and movable radially with respect thereto toward and away from said knife edge to, respectively, enclose a cut off stuffing piece as said anvil moves out of the path of said knife edge and to permit a stuffing piece to be cut off and positioned between said first and second arms and said plate, spring means to urge said blade member toward said knife edge, and means responsive to rotative movement of said plate to move said blade member away from said knife edge to permit the cutting off and pickup of a stuffing piece.
- 2. The machine of claim 1, including means mounting said strip cutting member for adjustment movement relative to said plate so that the width of the cut off stuffing pieces may be varied.
- 3. A machine for stuffing pitted olives comprising means to feed a strip of stuffing material, means to cut stuffing pieces from said strip comprising a plate mounted for rotation, an L-shaped cutting and pickup member fixedly carried by said plate and adapted to be swept across said strip to cut off and carry away the end portion thereof, an anvil member disposed at one side of said strip in the path of movement of said L-shaped member to back up said end portion and permit the same to be cut off, said anvil member being pivotally and yieldingly mounted and thereby adapted to be moved away by said L-shaped member to permit the latter to carry away the end portion of said strip.
- 4. The machine of claim 3, including a blade member slidably carried for radial movement by said plate, means to move said blade member outwardly of said plate as said anvil member is moved away by said L-shaped member to form a lateral enclosure for said cut off end portion along with said plate and L-shaped member, and means to move said blade member inwardly of said plate to enable said L-shaped member to cut off and pick up said end portion.
- 5. In a machine for stuffing pitted olives comprising first means mounted on stationary support means to feed and fold a strip of stuffing material and second means to cut stuffing pieces from the end of said folded strip; said second means comprising in combination a plate mounted for rotation about a predetermined axis, an L-shaped knife fixedly carried by said plate and having a cutting edge adapted to sweep through said end of said folded strip as said plate rotates, a backup anvil member for said end of said strip disposed at one side thereof in the path of movement of said L-shaped knife, said member being mounted on said stationary support means for yielding pivotal movement about a pivot axis which is parallel to the axis of rotation of said plate, to swing clear of the path of movement of said L-shaped knife in response to engagement with said knife after a piece of said strip has been cut therefrom while said piece is being backed up and supported by said anvil member.
