Claims
- 1. A machine tool comprising:
- a tool support,
- a tool head supported by said tool support,
- rotary cutting tool means supported for rotation on said tool head,
- power operated means for rotating said cutting tool means to permit said tool means to perform a cutting operation on work,
- electromagnetic radiation generating means supported by said tool and operable to generate and direct radiation against work operated on by said cutting tool means as said cutting tool means operates to cooperate therewith in improving the cutting action of said cutting tool means.
- 2. A machine tool in accordance with claim 1 wherein said radiation generating means is operable to generate ultrasonic energy for vibrating said tool means as it operates on work.
- 3. A machine tool in accordance with claim 1 wherein said radiation generating means is operable to generate below sonic vibrational energy and impart same to said cutting tool means as said tool means operates on work.
- 4. A machine tool in accordance with claim 2 wherein said radiation generating means is operable to generate said ultrasonic energy and direct same through said tool means to said work as said tool means operates on said work.
- 5. A machine tool in accordance with claim 4 wherein said ultrasonic energy generating means is supported by said tool head and is coupled to said tool means.
- 6. A machine tool in accordance with claim 4 wherein said ultrasonic energy generating means is supported by said cutting tool and is operable to directly transmit ultrasonic energy to said tool.
- 7. A machine tool in accordance with claim 1 wherein said radiation generating means comprises a laser supported by said tool and is operable to generate and direct intense beam radiation at work supported adjacent said tool and operated on by said tool means.
- 8. A machine tool in accordance with claim 1 wherein said radiation generating means is supported by a probe manipulator supported by said tool and means for predeterminately operating said manipulator to vary the location of said radiation generating means.
