Claims
- 1. A method comprising: preparing macroporous polymeric membranes having properties for enabling substantially high efficiency separation of macromolecules on an industrial scale by dissolving a mixture of monomers together with a radical initiator, in a porogenic inert organic solvent selected from the group consisting of alcohols, esters of carboxylic acids, ketones, and their mixtures, placing the resultant solution into a space having a desired shape, formed by two temperature-controlled face plates and a spacing insert having a thickness corresponding to the required thickness of the membrane, and heating the solution to a temperature up to 80.degree. C. for up to 24 hours in order to carry out radical polymerization.
- 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the initiator of radical polymerization is azo-bis-isobutyronitile and is present in an amount from about 0.05 to about 2 wt. % based on the amount of monomers in the polymerization batch.
- 3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the porogenic solvent, is present in a volume amount from about 40 to about 60 percent and the porogenic solvent is cyclohexanol or a mixture thereof with up to 20 vol. % of dodecanol.
