Claims
- 1. A method of reading and/or writing data from and onto read/write disks comprising the steps of:
- stacking a plurality of said read/write disks in a magazine including a rotatably mounted inner body and a rotatably mounted outer body which rotate in opposing first and second directions, rotation in said first direction moving said inner and outer body away from one another, thereby opening said magazine and rotation in said second direction moving said inner and outer body toward one another, thereby closing said magazine;
- opening said inner body and said outer body from a peripheral edge of the magazine whale moving a number of said read/write disks in the direction in which the disks are stacked to open a space between any two adjacent read/write disks;
- advancing a read/write unit into the space formed between said two adjacent read/write disks;
- rotating the read/write disk positioned above the read/write unit and which faces said space, by means of a driving system of said read/write unit; and at the same time;
- performing reading or writing by means of a read/write head or a laser pickup of said read/write unit of said read/write disk while the disk is being rotated.
- 2. A read/write device for read/write disks, comprising:
- a magazine having an inner body and an outer body containing a plurality of said read/write disks stacked one atop another, said inner body and said outer body being rotatably mounted about a common axis of rotation and thus rotating in opposing directions, said rotation causing said inner and outer bodies to be displaced away from or toward one another, respectively, along said common axis of rotation, thereby opening or closing said magazine with connection therebetween being constantly maintained;
- a main body of said read/write device having a magazine insertion section permitting said magazine to be inserted therein and removed therefrom;
- a selecting mechanism mounted within said magazine insertion section for selecting a desired read/write disk from among the disks contained in the magazine;
- an open/close mechanism mounted within said magazine insertion section, for opening the inner body and the outer body of the magazine and moving a number of said disks from among said plurality of read/write disks in the direction in which the disks are stacked to form a space between said read/write disk selected by said selecting mechanism and a read/write disk adjacent thereto; and
- a read/write unit mounted within said magazine insertion section, said read/write unit advancing into and retreating from said space formed between said read/write disks and having a driving system and a read/write head or a laser pickup, said driving system being provided to rotate the selected read/write disk which faces said space, said read/write head or the laser pickup being provided to write and/or read data onto or from said selected read/write disk which is being rotated, and the read/write unit positioning the read/write head or the laser pickup at the read/write position.
- 3. The device of claim 2, further comprising:
- said read/write unit pivoting around a vertically disposed shaft positioned within said magazine insertion section so that said read/write unit may be advanced to the read/write position inside said magazine or retreated from the read/write position to a retreated position outside said magazine;
- a pair of engaging means formed in said read/write unit at locations respectively corresponding to said read/write position and said retreated position of the read/write unit; and
- a driving mechanism having a catching portion, said catching portion engaging one of said pair of engaging means formed in said read/write unit and selectively driving said read/write unit to said read/write position and said retreated position, said catching portion catching a selected one of said pair of engaging means only when said read/write unit is in its read/write position or the retreated position and said catching portion remaining disengaged from said read/write unit during pivoting of said read/write unit.
- 4. The device in claim 2, further comprising:
- the magazine opening or closing in the direction in which the disks are stacked and containing a plurality of holders each carrying one of said read/write disks in such a manner that said holders move in the direction in which the disks are stacked;
- the selecting mechanism positioned within said magazine insertion section for movement in the direction in which the disks are stacked and for selectively catching a selected one of said holders carrying the desired read/write disk to be written or read from among said holders contained in said magazine;
- an interlocking means for connecting said selecting mechanism and said read/write unit; and
- a driving means for moving said selecting mechanism and said read/write unit in the direction in which the disks are stacked in the magazine.
- 5. A read/write device for read/write disks, comprising:
- a magazine containing a plurality of said read/write disks stacked one atop another and having a configuration such that a rotatably mounted inner body and a rotatably mounted outer body thereof rotate about a common axis of rotation in opposing directions parallel to the circumference of the disks and concurrently with said rotation moving apart or together in the direction in which the disks are stacked, thereby closing or opening a space formed next to and directly below a selected one of said disks with connection therebetween being constantly maintained;
- a main body of said read/write device having a magazine insertion section which permits said magazine to be inserted therein and removed therefrom;
- a slider provided along a curved edge of said magazine insertion section in such a manner that said slider rotates in directions parallel to the circumference of the disks and has a catching portion for catching either the outer body or the inner body of said magazine inserted in said magazine insertion section and rotating the one with which said catching portion is engaged in directions parallel to the circumference of the disks; and
- a driving means for rotating said slider in one direction or the other.
- 6. A read/write device for read/write disks, comprising:
- a magazine wherein an inner body and an outer body thereof are rotatably mounted about a common axis of rotation and therefore rotate in opposing directions and concurrently with said rotation move apart or together along said common axis of rotation, thereby closing and opening a space formed next to and directly below a selected one of said disks with connection therebetween being constantly maintained, and wherein a plurality of holders each carrying one of said read/write disks are contained in the magazine in such a manner that said holders move along said common axis of rotation concurrently with said rotation about said common axis;
- a main body of the read/write device having a magazine insertion section permitting said magazine to be inserted therein and removed therefrom;
- an open/close mechanism for rotating said inner body of said magazine about said common axis of rotation when said magazine is in said magazine insertion section; and
- a selecting means which selectively catches a selected one of said holders carrying a selected read/write disk to be written or read from among said holders, thereby preventing the selected holder from moving.
