Claims
- 1. Magnetic printing apparatus, for use in forming on a substrate a colored print of an original colored design, comprising means for developing the magnetic image of a photocolor-separated film positive of the original design on a ferromagnetic material which is capable of continuously discharging an electric charge through its thickness to a grounded electrically conductive support on which it is imposed with a toner comprising a ferromagnetic component, a dye and a resin which substantially encapsulates said component and dye; and means for transferring the developed image directly or through an intermediate substrate to an ultimate substrate.
- 2. Apparatus of claim 1 additionally characterized in containing a means for forming on said ferromagnetic material a magnetic image of a photocolor-separated film positive of the original colored design by (i) magnetizing said ferromagnetic material in its entirety and thereafter heating one or more portions of said ferromagnetic material so as to demagnetize said one or more portions at least partially, or (ii) magnetizing selected portions of said ferromagnetic material.
- 3. The apparatus of either claim 1 or 2 additionally characterized in containing means for permanently fixing the dye on and/or in the substrate.
- 4. Apparatus of claim 3 which additionally includes means for removing for ferromagnetic component and the resin.
- 5. Apparatus of claim 4 which includes means for removing the ferromagnetic component and a water-soluble or water-solubilizable resin from the substrate.
- 6. Apparatus of either claim 1 or 2 which includes a plurality of all of said means in sequential array so as to provide for formation on the ultimate substrate of a multicolored print of an original multicolored design.
- 7. Apparatus of claim 6 wherein said ferromagnetic material consists essentially of acicular chromium dioxide.
- 8. Apparatus of claim 6 wherein said electrically conductive support consists essentially of an electrically conductive metal.
- 9. Apparatus of claim 6 wherein said electrically conductive support is a metalized plastic material.
- 10. Magnetic printing apparatus for forming on a substrate a colored print of an original colored design comprising a ferromagnetic printing means capable of continuously discharging an electric charge through its thickness to a grounded electrically conductive support on which it is imposed; means for forming on said ferromagnetic printing means a magnetic image of a photocolor-separated film positive of the original colored design; means for developing said magnetic image on said ferromagnetic printing means with a toner comprising a ferromagnetic component, a dye and a resin which substantially encapsulates said component and dye; means for transferring the developed image to the substrate; and means for fixing said dye on and/or in said substrate.
- 11. Apparatus of claim 10 which includes a plurality of all of said means in sequential array so as to provide for formation on the substrate of a multicolored print of an original multicolored design.
- 12. Apparatus of claim 10 or 11 which includes means for removing said ferromagnetic component and said resin.
- 13. Apparatus of claim 12 wherein said resin is water-soluble or water-solubilizable.
- 14. Apparatus of claim 10 wherein said ferromagnetic means consists essentially of acicular chromium dioxide.
