Claims
- 1. A magnetic recording medium of a metal thin-film type comprising a magnetic layer and a carbon protective layer on a non-magnetic support member, wherein
a non-magnetic metal thin-film is provided between said magnetic layer and said carbon protective layer.
- 2. The magnetic recording medium according to claim 1, wherein said non-magnetic metal thin-film has a thickness of 2 nm and above and said carbon protective layer has a thickness of 3 nm and above, and
the total thickness of said non-magnetic metal thin-film and said carbon protective layer is between 5 and 15 nm.
- 3. The magnetic recording medium according to claim 1, wherein said non-magnetic metal thin-film comprises one of Mo, W, Cu, Zn and an alloy containing one of Mo, W, Cu and Zn.
- 4. The magnetic recording medium according to claim 2, wherein said non-magnetic metal thin-film comprises one of Mo, W, Cu, Zn and an alloy containing one of Mo, W, Cu and Zn.
- 5. The magnetic recording medium according to claim 1, wherein said non-magnetic metal thin-film comprises one of Au, Pt, Ag and an alloy containing one of Au, Pt and Ag.
- 6. The magnetic recording medium according to claim 2, wherein said non-magnetic metal thin-film comprises one of Au, Pt, Ag and an alloy containing one of Au, Pt and Ag.
- 7. The magnetic recording medium according to claim 1, wherein said non-magnetic metal thin-film comprises one of Si, Ge, Sn, Pb and an alloy containing one of Si, Ge, Sn and Pb.
- 8. The magnetic recording medium according to claim 2, wherein said non-magnetic metal thin-film comprises one of Si, Ge, Sn, Pb and an alloy containing one of Si, Ge, Sn and Pb.
- 9. The magnetic recording medium according to claim 1, wherein said non-magnetic metal thin-film comprises one of Ti, Zr and an alloy containing one of Ti and Zr.
- 10. The magnetic recording medium according to claim 2, wherein said non-magnetic metal thin-film comprises one of Ti, Zr and an alloy containing one of Ti and Zr.
- 11. A process for producing a magnetic recording medium, comprising:
forming a magnetic layer on a non-magnetic support member through a vacuum thin-film forming technique; forming a non-magnetic metal thin-film on said magnetic layer; and forming a carbon protective layer on said non-magnetic metal thin-film, wherein said forming of the non-magnetic metal thin-film and said forming of the carbon protective layer are successively performed in an environment closed off from external air.
