Claims
- 1. A magnetic recording medium, comprising:
- a support;
- a lower layer disposed over the support and comprising a powder containing a non-magnetic substance and a magnetic substance dispersed in a binder;
- an upper magnetic layer comprising a ferromagnetic powder and a binder disposed over the lower layer;
- wherein said upper magnetic layer has a dry thickness of 1.0 .mu.m or less and a coercive force (Hc) of from 1,200 to 3,000 Oe, and said lower layer comprises the non-magnetic substance in an amount of 100 parts or more by weight per 100 parts by weight of the magnetic substance.
- 2. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 1, wherein the ferromagnetic powder in said upper magnetic layer is an acicular ferromagnetic alloy powder containing Fe, Ni or Co, and said lower non-magnetic layer contains a non-magnetic substance in an amount of 100 or more parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the magnetic powder.
- 3. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 1, wherein said lower non-magnetic layer contains from 100 to 5,000 parts by weight of a nonmagnetic substance per 100 parts by weight of the magnetic powder.
- 4. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 1, wherein the lower non-magnetic layer is formed from a coating solution which contains a magnetic powder which imparts a thixotropic property to the coating material.
- 5. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 1, wherein said support is formed from at least one flexible support material selected from the group consisting of polyesters selected from the group consisting of polyethylene terephthalate and polyethylene naphthalate, polyolefins, cellulose triacetate, polycarbonate, polyamide, polyimide, polyamide-imide, polysulfone, aramide and aromatic polyamide.
- 6. A magnetic recording medium as in claim 1, wherein said lower layer is a non-magnetic layer.
- 7. A magnetic recording medium as in claim 1, wherein said lower layer has a saturation maximum magnetic flux density of 500 gauss or less.
- 8. A magnetic recording medium as in claim 1, wherein said lower layer is substantially incapable of magnetic recording.
- 9. A magnetic recording medium, comprising a support;
- a lower layer disposed over the support and comprising a powder containing a non-magnetic substance and a magnetic substance dispersed in a binder;
- an upper magnetic layer comprising a ferromagnetic powder and a binder disposed over the lower layer;
- wherein said upper magnetic layer has a dry thickness of 1.0 .mu.m or less and a coercive force (Hc) of from 1,200 to 3,000 Oe, and said lower layer comprises the non-magnetic substance in an amount of 385 parts or more by weight per 100 parts by weight of the magnetic substance and said non-magnetic substance comprises inorganic powder and binder.
- 10. A magnetic recording medium, comprising:
- a support;
- a lower layer disposed over the support and comprising a powder containing a non-magnetic substance and a magnetic substance dispersed in a binder;
- an upper magnetic layer comprising a ferromagnetic powder and a binder disposed over the lower layer;
- wherein said upper magnetic layer has a dry thickness of 1 .0 .mu.m or less and a coercive force (Hc) of from 1,200 to 3,000 Oe, and said lower layer comprises the non-magnetic substance in an amount of 100 parts or more by weight per 100 parts by weight of the magnetic substance and said magnetic substance has a coercive force (Hc) of 400 Oe or more.
- 11. A magnetic recording medium, comprising:
- a support;
- a lower layer disposed over the support and comprising a powder containing a non-magnetic substance and a magnetic substance dispersed in a binder;
- an upper magnetic layer comprising a ferromagnetic powder and a binder disposed over the lower layer;
- wherein said upper magnetic layer has a dry thickness of 1.0 .mu.m or less and a coercive force (Hc) of from 1,600 to 3,000 Oe, and said lower layer comprises the non-magnetic substance in an amount of 100 parts or more by weight per 100 parts by weight of the magnetic substance.
- 12. A magnetic recording medium as in claim 1, wherein said non-magnetic substance comprises inorganic powder and binder.
- 13. A magnetic recording medium as in claim 10, wherein said non-magnetic substance comprises inorganic powder and binder.
- 14. A magnetic recording medium as in claim 11, wherein said non-magnetic substance comprises inorganic powder and binder.
