Claims
- 1. A magnetic recording medium, comprising:
- a support;
- at least two layers comprising a lower non-magnetic layer disposed at one side of the support, the lower non-magnetic layer comprising a non-magnetic powder and a binder, and an upper magnetic layer disposed over the lower non-magnetic layer, the upper magnetic layer comprising a ferromagnetic powder and a binder; and
- a back layer at the other side of the support, the back layer comprising carbon black and a binder,
- wherein the upper magnetic layer has an average dry thickness (d) of 1.0 .mu.m or less; the non-magnetic powder contained in the lower non-magnetic layer is a non-magnetic inorganic powder having a Mohs hardness of 3 or more; and the back layer has a surface free energy of 10 to 100 dyne/cm.
- 2. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 1, wherein the ferromagnetic powder contained in the upper magnetic layer is a ferromagnetic alloy powder having an average longest axis of 0.3 .mu.m or less.
- 3. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 1, wherein the carbon black contained in the back layer comprises carbon black having an average particle size shorter than an average longest axis of the ferromagnetic powder and carbon black having an average particle size longer than the average longest axis of the ferromagnetic powder.
- 4. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 1, wherein the back layer has a .mu. of 0.15 to 0.4.
- 5. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 1, which has an average thickness variation (Ad) at the interface between the upper magnetic layer and lower non-magnetic layer after dying is 0.001 to 0.5 .mu.m.
- 6. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 1, wherein the back layer has a surface resistivity of not more than 1.times.10.sup.9 .OMEGA./sq.
- 7. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 1, wherein the lower non-magnetic layer comprises carbon black having an average particle size of 5 to 80 nm.
- 8. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in 1, wherein the upper magnetic layer has a surface having an average number of abrasive grains appearing of at least 0.1/.mu.m.sup.2, when five micrographs of the magnetic recording medium are taken at the surface with SEM with a magnification of 50,000.
- 9. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 1, wherein the binder contained in the back layer comprises polyurethane and nitrocellulose.
