Claims
- 1. A magnetic recording medium comprising a non-magnetic support and a magnetic recording layer provided on said support, said magnetic recording layer comprising a ferromagnetic powder dispersed in a binder, which is characterized in that said nonmagnetic support has heat shrinkage ratio of not higher than 1.0% at 110.degree. C. for 4 hours under application of no tension and said magnetic recording layer comprises at least one fatty acid having 12 to 22 carbon atoms and at least one modified silicon compound having a molecular weight of not less than 200, wherein the total amount of said fatty acid and said modified silicon compound in the magnetic recording layer is in the range of 0.5 to 10 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the ferromagnetic powder and wherein said magnetic recording layer contains the fatty acid and the modified silicon compound in a weight ratio of 9/1 to 1/9.
- 2. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 1 in which said modified silicon compound is of the formula ##STR23##
- 3. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 1, wherein said modified silicon compound has a molecular weight of not less than 1,000.
- 4. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 1, wherein said modified silicon compound has a molecular weight in the range of 5,000 to 100,000.
- 5. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 1, wherein said modified silicon compound is a fatty acid-modified silicon compound.
- 6. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 5, wherein said fatty acid-modified silicon compound is a silicon compound modified with a fatty acid having 12 to 22 carbon atoms.
- 7. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 1, wherein said magnetic recording layer contains the fatty acid and the modified silicon compound in a weight ratio of 7/3 to 3/7.
- 8. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 7 in which the total amount of said fatty acid and said modified silicon compound in the magnetic recording layer is in the range of 1 to 5 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the ferromagnetic powder.
- 9. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 1 in which said non-magnetic support has a heat shrinkage ratio of not higher than 0.7%.
- 10. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 1 in which said fatty acid is selected from the group consisting of lauric, myristic, stearic and oleic acids.
- 11. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 10 in which said modified silicon compound is of the formula ##STR24## wherein n is 1 or 11.
- 12. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 10 in which said modified silicon compound is of the formula ##STR25## in which R, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are a hydrocarbon of 7 to 21 carbon atoms, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are a hydrocarbon of 1 to 21 carbon atoms, m is an integer of 1 to 100, n is an integer of 0 to 250, m+n is less than or equal to 300 and m is greater than or equal to n/5; and x, y and z have the relationship of 1.ltoreq.z<150, 0.ltoreq.y, y+z.ltoreq.1,000, 1.ltoreq.x<y+z, and z/y=1/1000-1/1; and b is an integer from 0 to 1,000.
- 13. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 12 in which said modified silicon compound is of the formula ##STR26## wherein m and n are respectively 1 and 1, 10 and 20 or 100 and 200, and wherein z and y are respectively 1 and 1 or 25 and 75.
- 14. The magnetic recording medium as claimed in claim 12 in which said modified silicon compound is of the formula ##STR27##
