Claims
- 1. A magneto-optical recording medium having as laminations in the following order at least a protective layer, a first magnetic layer, a second magnetic layer, a third magnetic layer, another protective layer, a reflection layer and a transparent substrate, wherein:
- the first and third magnetic layers are formed of a rare earth element--transition metal alloy provided with characteristics for forming a perpendicular magnetized film, respectively;
- the second magnetic layer is formed of a light rare earth element--heavy rare earth element--transition metal alloy; and
- the first, second and third magnetic layers satisfy the following conditions with respect to Kerr rotational angle in a wavelength range of light used for signal reproduction and coercivity, both at room temperature:
- .theta.1<.theta.2
- .theta.3<.theta.2
- Hc1>Hc2
- Hc3>Hc2
- where .theta. donates the Kerr rotational angle, Hc denotes the coercivity, and suffixal numerals 1, 2 and 3 denote the first, second and third magnetic layers, respectively.
- 2. The magneto-optical recording medium of claim 1, wherein the light rare earth element of the second magnetic layer includes Nd and/or Pr.
- 3. The magneto-optical recording medium of claim 1, wherein the second magnetic layer satisfies the following conditions with respect to composition ratio:
- 10.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.35 (at %)
- 1.ltoreq.y.ltoreq.15 (at %)
- where x denotes a composition ratio of the light rare earth element, and y denotes a composition ratio of the heavy rare earth element.
- 4. The magneto-optical recording medium of claim 1, wherein the rare earth element of the first and third magnetic layers includes Nd and/or Pr.
- 5. The magneto-optical recording medium of claim 1, wherein the first and third magnetic layers are prominent in sublattice magnetization of transition metal at room temperature, respectively, and further satisfy the following conditions with respect to the Kerr rotational angle and the coercivity
- .theta.1>.theta.3
- Hc1<Hc3.
- 6. The magneto-optical recording medium of claim 1, wherein the first magnetic layer is prominent in sublattice magnetization of transition metal at room temperature, the third magnetic layer is prominent in sublattice magnetization of rare earth element at room temperature, and further the first and third magnetic layers satisfy the following conditions with respect to the Kerr rotational angle and the coercivity
- .theta.1>.theta.3
- Hc1<Hc3.
- 7.
- 7. A magneto-optical recording medium comprising:
- as laminations in the following order at least a protective layer, a recording film, an auxiliary film of a rare earth element--transition metal alloy, a protective layer and a transparent substrate, the recording film and the auxiliary film being exchange coupled with respect to each other;
- wherein the recording and auxiliary films satisfy the following conditions with respect to coercivity at room temperature and Curie temperature for enabling direct overwrite by optical modulation:
- Hc1>Hc2
- Tc1<Tc2
- where Hc denotes the coercivity, Tc denotes the Curie temperature, and suffixal numerals 1 and 2 denote the recording and auxiliary films, respectively;
- the recording film is laminations in the following order a first magnetic layer of a light rare earth element--heavy rare earth element--transition metal alloy, a second magnetic layer of a light rare earth element--heavy rare earth element--transition metal alloy, and a third magnetic layer of a rare earth element--transition metal alloy on the substrate; and
- the first, second and third magnetic layers satisfy the following conditions with respect to Kerr rotational angle and coercivity, both at room temperature:
- .theta.a<.theta.b
- .theta.c<.theta.b
- Hca>Hcb
- Hcc>Hcb
- where .theta. denotes the Kerr rotational angle, Hc denotes the coercivity, and suffixal letters a, b and c denote the first, second and third magnetic layers, respectively.
- 8. The magneto-optical recording medium of claim 7, wherein the light rare earth element of the second magnetic layer includes Nd and/or Pr.
- 9. The magneto-optical recording medium of claim 7, wherein the light rare earth element of the first and third magnetic layers includes Nd and/or Pr.
- 10. The magneto-optical recording medium of claim 7, wherein the second magnetic layer satisfies the following conditions with respect to composition ratio:
- 10.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.35 (at %)
- 1.ltoreq.y.ltoreq.15 (at %)
- where x denotes a composition ratio of the light rare earth element, and y denotes a composition ratio of the heavy rare earth element.
