Claims
- 1. A method for providing a status of documents intended for delivery to a document recipient and created by a large scale document production and management process, the production and management process including a plurality of stages selected from the following group: utilizing a print stream to generate the documents, printing documents on a printer in accordance with the print stream, forming completed mail pieces on an inserter from the printed documents in accordance with mail piece creation data files, sorting the completed mail pieces on an outgoing sorter in accordance with carrier service specifications, delivering the completed mail pieces to a recipient by a carrier service, delivering a response mail piece from the recipient by the carrier service, and sorting the response mail piece at an incoming sorter; the method comprising:
receiving information regarding the status of documents within the plurality of production and management process stages; answering a status request from the document recipient with an automated response system; receiving an identifier code from the document recipient; matching the identifier code to a particular document; and providing document status information for the particular document to the document recipient.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of answering the status request is carried out by an interactive voice system.
- 3. The method of claim 2 wherein the document status information includes a current stage and status of the particular document.
- 4. The method of claim 3 further including the steps providing a document summary of the particular document to the document recipient; and transferring the document recipient to a customer service representative.
- 5. The method of claim 2 further including the step providing a document summary of the particular document to the document recipient.
- 6. The method of claim 2 further including the step of transferring the document recipient to a customer service representative.
- 7. A method for providing a status of documents intended for delivery to a document recipient and created by a large scale document production and management process, the method comprising:
utilizing a print stream to generate documents; associating a document identifier with each document; printing documents on a printer in accordance with the print stream; providing document printing status data and associated document identifier data to a lifecycle monitoring computer; forming completed mail pieces on an inserter from the printed documents in accordance with mail piece creation data files, the completed mail pieces including reply documents, the completed mail pieces and reply documents including document identifiers; providing mail piece formation status data and associated document identifier data from the inserter to the lifecycle monitoring computer, sorting the completed mail pieces on an outgoing sorter; providing outgoing sorting data and associated document identifier data to the lifecycle monitoring computer; delivering finished sorted mail pieces to a carrier service, the carrier service providing mail piece tracking data; collecting carrier service tracking data for mail pieces and reply documents handled by the carrier service; providing the collected carrier service tracking data to the lifecycle monitoring computer; receiving returned reply documents at an incoming sorter and scanning the returned reply documents for document identifiers; providing the incoming sorter status data and document identifier scanning data to the lifecycle monitoring computer; answering a status request from the document recipient with an automated response system; receiving an identification number from the document recipient; matching the identification number to a particular document; and providing document status information for the particular document to the document recipient, the status based on information provided to the lifecycle monitoring computer.
- 8. The method of claim 7 wherein the step of answering the status request is carried out by an interactive voice system.
- 9. The method of claim 8 wherein the document status information includes a current stage and status of the particular document.
- 10. The method of claim 9 further including the steps providing a document summary of the particular document to the document recipient; and transferring the document recipient to a customer service representative.
- 11. The method of claim 8 further including the step providing a document summary of the particular document to the document recipient.
- 12. The method of claim 8 further including the step of transferring the document recipient to a customer service representative.
- 13. A method for monitoring the status of documents created by a large scale document production and management process, the production and management process including a plurality of stages selected from the following group: utilizing a print stream to generate the documents, printing documents on a printer in accordance with the print stream, forming completed mail pieces on an inserter from the printed documents in accordance with mail piece creation data files, sorting the completed mail pieces on an outgoing sorter in accordance with carrier service specifications, delivering the completed mail pieces to a recipient by a carrier service, delivering a response mail piece from the recipient by the carrier service, and sorting the response mail piece at an incoming sorter, the method comprising:
storing records relating to individual documents processed by the document production and management process, each record being identified by a non-recurring identifier; monitoring the status of the individual documents during a plurality of stages in the document production and management process; relating the monitored status of individual documents to the non-recurring identifier; updating the stored records to indicate the monitored status of individual documents throughout the document production and management process; and answering a status request from the document recipient with an automated response system; receiving an identifier number from the document recipient; matching the identifier number to a non-recurring identifier of an individual document; and providing document status information for the individual document to the document recipient.
- 14. The method of claim 13 wherein the step of answering the status request is carried out by an interactive voice system.
- 15. The method of claim 14 wherein the document status information includes a current stage and status of the particular document.
- 16. The method of claim 15 further including the steps providing a document summary of the particular document to the document recipient; and transferring the document recipient to a customer service representative.
- 17. The method of claim 14 further including the step providing a document summary of the particular document to the document recipient.
