Claims
- 1. A manganese complex of lysocellin.
- 2. A feed additive composition for food-producing animals comprising a carrier material and at least about 5 percent by weight on a dry basis of a manganese complex of lysocellin.
- 3. A feed additive composition for food-producing animals in accordance with claim 2 wherein the manganese complex of lysocellin comprises about 10 per cent to 50 per cent by weight on a dry basis of the composition, the composition further including said carrier material.
- 4. A feed composition comprising a nutrient feed material and a manganese complex of lysocellin.
- 5. A feed composition in accordance with claim 4 comprising said nutrient feed material and about 50 to 200 grams per ton of said manganese complex of lysocellin.
- 6. A feed composition in accordance with claim 5 comprising said nutrient feed material and about 75 to about 125 grams per ton of said manganese complex of lysocellin.
- 7. A process for promoting growth and enhancing feeding efficiency in food-producing animals which process comprises administering to said food-producing animals a growth-promoting and feed efficiency-enhancing amount of manganese complex of lysocellin.
- 8. The process of claim 7, in which a biomass containing the manganese complex of lysocellin is fed to said animals, said biomass being prepared by:
- (a) fermenting a fermentation broth inoculated with a "Streptomyces" microorganism capable of producing lysocellin by fermentaton of the broth for a period of time and under suitable fermentation conditions in order to produce said lysocellin in said fermentation broth;
- (b) providing in said lysocellin-containing fermentation broth a water-soluble manganese salt in an amount sufficient to from a manganese complex of said lysocellin, which complex is insoluble in the fermentation broth; and
- (c) recovering said biomass of insoluble material from said fermentation broth, said biomass containing both a manganese complex of said lysocellin and insoluble manganese complexes of residual nitrogen-containing compounds present in the fermentation broth.
- 9. A process for promoting growth and enhancing feed efficiency of food-producing animals in accordance with claim 7, which process comprises administering to food-producing animals a feed material containing from about 50 to about 200 grams per ton of said manganese complex of lysocellin.
- 10. A process in accordance with claim 9 wherein said feed material contains from about 75 to about 125 grams per ton of said manganese complex of lysocellin.
- 11. An animal feed supplement capable of increasing the rate of growth of an animal when supplied in the animal's feed on a regular basis during the animal's normal growth period, said animal feed supplement also being capable of enhancing the feed efficiency of the animal, said feed supplement comprising manganese lysocellin and a carrier material.
- 12. A biomass containing a manganese complex of lysocellin, said biomass being prepared by:
- (a) fermenting a fermentation broth inoculated with a "Streptomyces" microorganism capable of producing lysocellin by fermentation of the broth for a period of time and under suitable fermentation conditions in order to produce said lysocellin in said fermentation broth;
- (b) providing in said lysocellin-containing fermentation broth a water-soluble manganese salt in an amount sufficient to form a manganese complex of said lysocellin, which complex is insoluble in the fermentation broth; and
- (c) recovering said biomass of said insoluble complex from said fermentation broth, said biomass containing both a manganese complex of said lysocellin and insoluble manganese complexes of residual nitrogen-containing compounds present in the fermentation broth.
