Claims
- 1. A manufacturing method for molded glass articles comprising the steps of:
- initially pressing and molding a softened glass molding material into a shape close to that of a final product with a preheated mold,
- cooling the vicinity of the molding surface of the mold at the start of the initial pressing, midway through, or after the initial pressing, thereby cooling the molded glass to a glass transition point of the molded glass material or below, and
- removing the molded glass from the mold,
- wherein from the completion of initial pressing to decrease of the temperature down to the glass transition point or below, a pressure of 0.001 to 5.0 kg/cm.sup.2 is continuously exerted to the molded glass.
- 2. The manufacturing method according to claim 1, wherein the initial pressing is completed after the center thickness of the molded glass material comes into the permissive tolerance of the center thickness of the final product.
- 3. The manufacturing method according to claim 1, wherein the initial pressing is completed after the center thickness of the molded glass material comes into within a range of -0.03 mm to +0.03 mm of the center thickness of the final product.
- 4. The manufacturing method according to claim 1, wherein the final pressing is started after the temperature of the glass molding material becomes a temperature that the glass molding material indicates a viscosity of 10.sup.7.6 poises or more.
- 5. The manufacturing method according to claim 1, wherein the initial pressing proceeds continuously while the pressure is changed in a stepwise fashion.
- 6. The manufacturing method according to claim 1, wherein the initial pressing is conducted at a pressure selected from 30 to 350 kg/cm.sup.2.
- 7. The manufacturing method according to claim 6, wherein the initial pressing is conducted at a pressure selected from 30 to 350 kg/cm.sup.2 and subsequently at a pressure selected from 10 to 200 kg/cm.sup.2.
- 8. The manufacturing method according to claim 7, wherein a pressure of 0.001 to 0.5 kg/cm.sup.2 is exerted to the molded glass between the pressing at a pressure in a range of 30 to 350 kg/cm.sup.2 and that at a pressure in a range of 10 to 200 kg/cm.sup.2.
- 9. The manufacturing method according to claim 6, wherein the initial pressing at a pressure in a range of 10 to 200 kg/cm.sup.2 is started after the center thickness of the molded glass comes into within a range of -0.03 mm to +0.15 mm of the center thickness of the final product.
- 10. The manufacturing method according to claim 1, wherein the initial pressure is started when the temperature of the glass molding material is higher than the temperature of the preheated mold.
- 11. The manufacturing method according to claim 10, wherein the initial pressing is started when the glass molding material has a viscosity in the range of 10.sup.5.5 to 10.sup.8 poises and the mold has a temperature that this glass molding material indicates a viscosity of 10.sup.8 to 10.sup.10.5 poises.
- 12. The manufacturing method according to claim 1, wherein the mold glass is released from the mold upon a stop of exertion of the pressure at a temperature between the glass transition point and a temperature of 50.degree. C. below the glass transition point.
