Devices and methods for carrying out the invention are presented in terms of embodiments depicted within the FIGS. However, the invention is not limited to the described embodiments, and a person skilled in the art will appreciate that many other embodiments of the invention are possible without deviating from the basic concept of the invention, and that any such work around will also fall under scope of this invention. It is envisioned that other styles and configurations of the present invention can be easily incorporated into the teachings of the present invention, and the configurations shall be shown and described for purposes of clarity and disclosure and not by way of limitation of scope.
The present invention describes a mask caddy that functions are to hold a mask keep it sanitary in your vehicle. This is achieved by the use of a flexible container or pouch that flexes open to expose an internal cavity or compartment. The container or pouch has attachment members adapted to engage with the vehicle's sun visor. The container or pouch also has a means of fastening to retain the mask in place within the internal cavity or compartment.
With regard to the materials that the body 104 can be made of, it is contemplated that any flexible and washable material can be used. Typically including, but not limited to, silicone, foam, nylon, or fabric all of which provide durability and flexibility for holding the mask within the mask caddy 102.
The first attachment member 108 and second attachment member 110 are typically fabricated from an extensible material such, as but not limited to, elastic or rubber. They are sized and positioned in such a way that, in conjunction with a portion of the body 104 of the mask caddy 102, they will easily fit around the circumference of the visor, from the outer edge 612 of the visor to the edge of the visor having the fixed hinge 608 and the clip hinge 610. It is, however, contemplated that the first attachment member 108 and second attachment member 110 may be made from a non-extensible material. In this embodiment, the attachment members may be secured to the sun visor by way of fasteners attached to the members, such as but not limited to snap fasteners, magnets, and Velcro. In the alternative, the attachment members may be tied together in a knot or a bow.
In the figures as presented, the first attachment member 108 and second attachment member 110 are shown attached to the shorter edges of the rectangular body 104 of the mask caddy 102. It is, however, considered within the scope of the embodiments of the invention for the first attachment member 108 and second attachment member 110 to be attached to the longer edges of the rectangular body 104 of the mask caddy 102. Typically, the points of attachment would be positioned close to the shorter edges of the rectangular body 104 so as not to obstruct the opening of the internal compartment 206.
In an alternative embodiment, the first attachment member 108 and second attachment member 110 are in the form of a clip, sized and proportioned to be fixed onto the sun visor. The clips are typically affixed to outer opposing sides of the body 104, either side of the opening to the internal compartment 206.
Similarly, in the figures as presented, the body 104 of the mask caddy 102 is essentially rectangular. It is within the scope of the various embodiments of the invention as contemplated that the body 104 may be different shapes. For example, any and all quadrilateral shapes, including square, rhombus, or parallelogram. The body 104 may also be ovoid, or various novelty shapes, provided that they are appropriately sized and proportioned to accommodate a mask, and have fixing points for the first attachment member 108 and second attachment member 110.
In some embodiments of the invention, a fastener 106 may be included to secure the front surface 202 to the back surface 204 along the upper edges of the body 104 to prevent the mask from falling from the mask caddy 102. Numerous different types of fasteners are considered within the scope of the various embodiments of the invention. For example, opposing North and South magnets may be attached to the inner surfaces of the front surface 202 and back surface 204 of the body. Similarly, metal or plastic snap fasteners can be used in place of magnets. Patches or strips of Velcro can be affixed to the inner surfaces of abutting edges of the body, thereby serving a similar function as the magnets or snap fasteners.
In some embodiments, a rigid external strip 302 may be affixed along the outer edge or edges of the opening. Similarly, a rigid internal strip 402 may be affixed along the inner edge or edges of the opening. The external strip 302 and internal strip 402 may be fabricated from a hard-plastic material or a metallic strip. The function of the optional external strip 302 and/or internal strip 402 is to provide an increased level of rigidity to the otherwise flexible mask caddy 102. If and when present the one or more internal strips 402 or one or more external strips 302 will function to prevent the mask caddy 102 from unwanted sagging or flexing open. In the alternative, an external strip 302 may be fabricated from a material that has a relatively high coefficient of friction, thereby providing non-slip properties between the body 104 of the mask caddy 102 and the sun visor.
In use, it is contemplated that multiple mask caddies 102 can be affixed to the same sun visor, enabling multiple drivers and passengers to sort their mask within the vehicle. The mask caddies 102 can be sized such two will fit side by side on one surface if the sun visor. Alternatively, a mask caddy 102 can to fitted on one side of the visor, and another mask caddy 102 can be fitted to the other side of the sun visor.
The foregoing descriptions of specific embodiments of the present invention have been presented for purposes of illustration and description. They are not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the invention and method of use to the precise forms disclosed. Many modifications and variations are possible in light of the above teaching. The embodiments described were chosen and described in order to best explain the principles of the invention and its practical application, and to thereby enable others skilled in the art to best utilize the invention and various embodiments with various modifications as are suited to the particular use contemplated. It is understood that various omissions or substitutions of equivalents are contemplated as circumstance may suggest or render expedient, but is intended to cover the application or implementation without departing from the spirit or scope of the claims of the present invention.
