Claims
- 1. A material dispenser for dispensing sheets of material with an adhesive strip applied thereto, comprising:
a material support for supporting a plurality of sheets of material stacked one on top of the other to form a stack of sheets of material with one of the sheets of material being disposed on the top of the stack of sheets of material and forming a top sheet of material; and an adhesive strip applicator positioned generally over at least a portion of the top sheet of material for applying an adhesive strip to at least a portion of the top sheet of material as the top sheet of material is pulled through the adhesive strip applicator.
- 2. The material dispenser of claim 1 wherein the adhesive strip applicator further comprises:
a housing for containing a quantity of adhesive transfer tape; means attached to the housing for supporting the adhesive transfer tape, the adhesive transfer tape comprising an adhesive strip with a backing applied to the adhesive strip, the backing readily separable from the adhesive strip; and means for causing a portion of the adhesive transfer tape to contact at least one surface of the sheet of material as the sheet of material is drawn across the material support simultaneously causing the adhesive layer to adhere to the sheet of material and to separate from the backing.
- 3. The material dispenser of claim 1 further comprising:
means for supporting the adhesive strip applicator for movement in an upward direction generally away from the stack of sheets of material and for movement in a downwardly direction generally toward the stack of sheets of material, the adhesive strip applicator moveable for disposing the stack of sheets of material thereunder and for accommodating different thicknesses of stacks of sheets of material.
- 4. The material dispenser of claim 1 wherein the sheet of material is defined further as being constructed of a material selected from a group of materials consisting of paper, metal foil, cloth (natural or synthetic), denim, burlap or polymer film or combinations thereof.
- 5. The material dispenser of claim 4 wherein the sheet of material is defined further as having a thickness in a range from less than about 0.1 mils to about 30 mils.
- 6. The material dispenser of claim 4 wherein the sheet of material is defined further as being a non-shape sustaining material.
- 7. A material dispenser for dispensing sheets of material with an adhesive strip applied thereto, comprising:
a material support for supporting a plurality of sheets of material stacked one on top of the other to form a stack of sheets of material with one of the sheets of material being disposed on the top of the stack of sheets of material and forming a top sheet of material; and an adhesive strip applicator positioned generally over at least a portion of the top sheet of material for applying an adhesive strip to at least a portion of the top sheet of material as the top sheet of material is pulled through the adhesive strip applicator, the adhesive strip applicator further comprising:
a housing for containing a quantity of adhesive transfer tape; means attached to the housing for supporting the adhesive transfer tape, the adhesive transfer tape comprising an adhesive strip with a backing applied to the adhesive strip, the backing readily separable from the adhesive strip; and means for causing a portion of the adhesive transfer tape to contact at least one surface of the sheet of material as the sheet of material is drawn across the material support simultaneously causing the adhesive layer to adhere to the sheet of material and to separate from the backing.
- 8. The material dispenser of claim 7 further comprising:
means for supporting the adhesive strip applicator for movement in an upward direction generally away from the stack of sheets of material and for movement in a downwardly direction generally toward the stack of sheets of material, the adhesive strip applicator moveable for disposing the stack of sheets of material thereunder and for accommodating different thicknesses of stacks of sheets of material.
- 9. The material dispenser of claim 7 wherein the sheet of material is defined further as being constructed of a material selected from a group of materials consisting of paper, metal foil, cloth (natural or synthetic), denim, burlap or polymer film or combinations thereof.
- 10. The material dispenser of claim 9 wherein the sheet of material is defined further as having a thickness in a range from less than about 0.1 mils to about 30 mils.
- 11. The material dispenser of claim 9 wherein the sheet of material is defined further as being a non-shape sustaining material.
- 12. An apparatus for dispensing sheets of material with an adhesive strip applied thereto for applying a decorative cover about a flower pot, comprising:
a material support for supporting a plurality of sheets of material stacked one on top of the other to form a stack of sheets of material with one of the sheets of material being disposed on the top of the stack of sheets of material and forming a top sheet of material; an adhesive strip applicator positioned generally over at least a portion of the top sheet of material for applying an adhesive strip to at least a portion of the top sheet of material as the top sheet of material is pulled through the adhesive strip applicator; and cover forming means for forming the sheet of material into a decorative cover about the outer surface of a flower pot disposed upon the upper surface of the sheet of material.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 12 wherein the cover forming means further comprises:
support means upon which the sheet of material is disposable and for supporting a flower pot in a position generally above the sheet of material; a plurality of pivotable forming members; and pivoting means pivotally attached to the forming members for pivotally urging the forming members from a forming member storage position spaced a distance from the outer surface of the flower pot and for moving the forming members to a forming member forming position wherein the forming members cooperate to engage the sheet of material thereby forming the sheet of material about the outer surface of the flower pot wherein the sheet of material is formed into the decorative flower pot cover.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 12 wherein the adhesive strip applicator further comprises:
a housing for containing a quantity of adhesive transfer tape; means attached to the housing for supporting the adhesive transfer tape, the adhesive transfer tape comprising an adhesive strip with a backing applied to the adhesive strip, the backing readily separable from the adhesive strip; and means for causing a portion of the adhesive transfer tape to contact at least one surface of the sheet of material as the sheet of material is drawn across the material support simultaneously causing the adhesive layer to adhere to the sheet of material and to separate from the backing.
- 15. The apparatus of claim 12 further comprising:
means for supporting the adhesive strip applicator for movement in an upward direction generally away from the stack of sheets of material and for movement in a downwardly direction generally toward the stack of sheets of material, the adhesive strip applicator moveable for disposing the stack of sheets of material thereunder and for accommodating different thicknesses of stacks of sheets of material.
- 16. The apparatus of claim 12 wherein the sheet of material is defined further as being constructed of a material selected from a group of materials consisting of paper, metal foil, cloth (natural or synthetic), denim, burlap or polymer film or combinations thereof.
- 17. The apparatus of claim 16 wherein the sheet of material is defined further as having a thickness in a range from less than about 0.1 mils to about 30 mils.
- 18. The apparatus of claim 16 wherein the sheet of material is defined further as being a non-shaped sustaining material.
- 19. A material dispenser for dispensing sheets of material with an adhesive strip applied thereto, comprising:
a roll of material having a leading end with the material being unrollable from the roll of material so the material end extends a distance from the roll of material; means for supporting the roll of material; a material support for supporting a portion of the roll of material in an adhesive strip receiving position; an adhesive strip applicator positioned generally proximate to at least a portion of the unrolled sheet of material for applying an adhesive strip thereto as the sheet of material unrolled from the roll and is drawn through the adhesive strip applicator; and means for cutting a sheet of material from the roll of material after a predetermined length of material has been unrolled from the roll of material.
- 20. The material dispenser of claim 19 wherein the adhesive strip applicator further comprises:
a housing for containing a quantity of adhesive transfer tape; means attached to the housing for supporting the adhesive transfer tape, the adhesive transfer tape comprising an adhesive strip with a backing applied to the adhesive strip, the backing readily separable from the adhesive strip; and means for causing a portion of the adhesive transfer tape to contact at least one surface of the sheet of material as the sheet of material is drawn across the material support simultaneously causing the adhesive layer to adhere to the sheet of material and to separate from the backing.
- 21. The material dispenser of claim 19 further comprising:
means for supporting the adhesive strip applicator for movement in an upward direction generally away from surface of the unrolled portion of the roll and for movement in a downward direction generally toward the unrolled portion of the roll, the adhesive strip applicator moveable for disposing the sheet of material thereunder and for accommodating different thicknesses of material.
- 22. The material dispenser of claim 19 wherein the material of the roll of material is defined further as being constructed of a material selected from a group of materials consisting of paper, metal foil, cloth (natural or synthetic), denim, burlap or polymer film or combinations thereof.
- 23. The material dispenser of claim 22 wherein the material of the roll of material is defined further as having a thickness in a range from less than about 0.1 mils to about 30 mils.
- 24. The material dispenser assembly of claim 22 wherein the material of the roll of material is defined further as being a non-shape sustaining material.
- 25. An apparatus for dispensing sheets of material for packaging floral groupings, providing a decorative cover for flower pots, for providing a gift wrapping for packages or the like or for providing a wrapping for items, comprising:
a roll support assembly for supporting a roll of material in a horizontal position; a roll of material disposed upon the roll support assembly; a material support surface for supporting an unrolled portion of material unrolled from the roll, the portion of material having an upper surface and a lower surface, the lower surface of the portion disposed adjacent the material support surface; means for applying a pressure sensitive adhesive strip to at least a portion of the upper surface of the unrolled portion of material as the portion material is being unrolled from the roll of material, the portion of material being unrolled from the roll of material until a predetermined length of material has been unrolled therefrom; and means for cutting the material after the predetermined length of the unrolled material has been unrolled from the roll material to provide a sheet having a predetermined size and a pressure sensitive adhesive strip having been applied to at least a portion of the upper surface thereof.
- 26. The apparatus of claim 25 wherein the means for applying a pressure sensitive adhesive strip further comprises:
a housing for containing a quantity of adhesive transfer tape; means attached to the housing for supporting the adhesive transfer tape, the adhesive transfer tape comprising an adhesive strip with a backing applied to the adhesive strip, the backing readily separable from the adhesive strip; and means for causing a portion of the adhesive transfer tape to contact at least one surface of the sheet of material as the sheet of material is drawn across the material support simultaneously causing the adhesive layer to adhere to the sheet of material and to separate from the backing.
- 27. The apparatus of claim 25 further comprising:
means for supporting the means for applying a pressure sensitive adhesive strip for movement in an upward direction generally away from the portion of material and for movement in a downwardly direction generally toward the portion of material, the means for applying a pressure sensitive adhesive strip moveable for disposing the portion of the material in a position thereunder and for accommodating different thicknesses of material.
- 28. The apparatus dispenser of claim 25 wherein the material of the roll of material is defined further as being constructed of a material selected from a group of materials consisting of paper, metal foil, cloth (natural or synthetic), denim, burlap or polymer film or combinations thereof.
- 29. The apparatus of claim 28 wherein the material of the roll of material is defined further as having a thickness in a range from less than about 0.1 mils to about 30 mils.
- 30. The apparatus of claim 28 wherein the material of the roll of material is defined further as being a non-shape sustaining material.
- 31. An apparatus for dispensing sheets of material for packaging floral groupings, providing a decorative cover for flower pots, for providing a gift wrapping for packages or the like or for providing a wrapping for items, comprising:
a roll support assembly for supporting a roll of material in a horizontal position; a roll of material disposed upon the roll support assembly; a material support surface for supporting an unrolled portion of material unrolled from the roll, the portion of material having an upper surface and a lower surface, the lower surface of the portion disposed adjacent the material support surface; means for applying a pressure sensitive adhesive strip to at least a portion of the upper surface of the unrolled portion of material after the portion material has being unrolled from the roll of material, the portion of material having been unrolled from the roll of material until a predetermined length of material was unrolled therefrom; and means for cutting the material into a sheet of material having a pressure sensitive adhesive strip thereon after the predetermined length of the unrolled material has been unrolled from the roll material and after the adhesive strip has been applied to at least a portion thereof.
- 32. The apparatus of claim 31 wherein the means for applying a pressure sensitive adhesive strip further comprises:
a housing for containing a quantity of adhesive transfer tape; means attached to the housing for supporting the adhesive transfer tape, the adhesive transfer tape comprising an adhesive strip with a backing applied to the adhesive strip, the backing readily separable from the adhesive strip; and means for causing a portion of the adhesive transfer tape to contact at least one surface of the sheet of material as the sheet of material is drawn across the material support simultaneously causing the adhesive layer to adhere to the sheet of material and to separate from the backing.
- 33. The apparatus of claim 31 further comprising:
means for supporting the means for applying a pressure sensitive adhesive strip for movement in an upward direction generally away from the portion of material and for movement in a downwardly direction generally toward the portion of material, the means for applying a pressure sensitive adhesive strip moveable for disposing the portion of the material in a position thereunder and for accommodating different thicknesses of material.
- 34. The apparatus of claim 31 wherein the material of the roll of material is defined further as being constructed of a material selected from a group of materials consisting of paper, metal foil, cloth (natural or synthetic), denim, burlap or polymer film or combinations thereof.
- 35. The apparatus of claim 34 wherein the material of the roll of material is defined further as having a thickness in a range from less than about 0.1 mils to about 30 mils.
- 36. The apparatus of claim 34 wherein the material of the roll of material is defined further as being a non-shaped sustaining material.
- 37. An apparatus for dispensing sheets of material for packaging floral groupings, providing a decorative cover for flower pots, for providing a gift wrapping for packages or the like or for providing a wrapping for items, comprising:
a roll support assembly for supporting a roll of material in a horizontal position; a roll of material disposed upon the roll support assembly; a material support surface for supporting an unrolled portion of material unrolled from the roll, the portion of material having an upper surface and a lower surface, the lower surface of the portion disposed adjacent the material support surface; means for applying a pressure sensitive adhesive strip to at least a portion of the upper surface of the unrolled portion of material, the portion of material being unrolled from the roll of material until a predetermined length of material has been unrolled therefrom wherein the means for applying a pressure sensitive adhesive strip further comprises:
a housing for containing a quantity of adhesive transfer tape; means attached to the housing for supporting the adhesive transfer tape, the adhesive transfer tape comprising an adhesive strip with a backing applied to the adhesive strip, the backing readily separable from the adhesive strip; and means for causing a portion of the adhesive transfer tape to contact at least one surface of the sheet of material as the sheet of material is drawn across the material support simultaneously causing the adhesive layer to adhere to the sheet of material and to separate from the backing; and means for cutting the material after the predetermined length of the unrolled material has been unrolled from the roll material to provide a sheet having a predetermined size and a pressure sensitive adhesive strip having been applied to at least a portion of the upper surface thereof.
- 38. The apparatus of claim 37 further comprising:
means for supporting the means for applying a pressure sensitive adhesive strip for movement in an upward direction generally away from the portion of material and for movement in a downwardly direction generally toward the portion of material, the means for applying a pressure sensitive adhesive strip moveable for disposing the portion of the material in a position thereunder and for accommodating different thicknesses of material.
- 39. The apparatus of claim 37 wherein the material of the roll of material is defined further as being constructed of a material selected from a group of materials consisting of paper, metal foil, cloth (natural or synthetic), denim, burlap or polymer film or combinations thereof.
- 40. The material dispenser of claim 37 wherein the material of the roll of material is defined further as having a thickness in a range from less than about 0.1 mils to about 30 mils.
- 41. The apparatus of claim 37 wherein the material of the roll of material is defined further as being a non-shape sustaining material.
- 42. An apparatus for applying a decorative cover about a flower pot, comprising:
a roll support assembly for supporting a roll of material in a horizontal position; a roll of material disposed upon the roll support assembly; a material support surface for supporting an unrolled portion of material unrolled from the roll, the portion of material having an upper surface and a lower surface, the lower surface of the portion disposed adjacent the material support surface; means for applying a pressure sensitive adhesive strip to at least a portion of the upper surface of the unrolled portion of material, the portion of material having been unrolled from the roll of material until a predetermined length of material was unrolled therefrom; means for cutting the material into a sheet of material having a pressure sensitive adhesive strip thereon after the predetermined length of the unrolled material has been unrolled from the roll of material and after the adhesive strip has been applied to at least a portion thereof; and cover forming means for forming the sheet of material into a decorative cover about the outer surface of a flower pot disposed upon the upper surface of the sheet of material.
- 43. The apparatus of claim 42 wherein the cover forming means further comprises:
support means upon which the sheet of material is disposable and for supporting a flower pot in a position generally above the sheet of material; a plurality of pivotable forming members; and pivoting means pivotally attached to the forming members for pivotally urging the forming members from a forming member storage position spaced a distance from the outer surface of the flower pot and for moving the forming members to a forming member forming position wherein the forming members cooperate to engage the sheet of material thereby forming the sheet of material about the outer surface of the flower pot wherein the sheet of material is formed into the decorative flower pot cover.
- 44. The apparatus of claim 42 wherein the means for applying a pressure sensitive adhesive strip further comprises:
a housing for containing a quantity of adhesive transfer tape; means attached to the housing for supporting the adhesive transfer tape, the adhesive transfer tape comprising an adhesive strip with a backing applied to the adhesive strip, the backing readily separable from the adhesive strip; and means for causing a portion of the adhesive transfer tape to contact at least one surface of the sheet of material as the sheet of material is drawn across the material support simultaneously causing the adhesive layer to adhere to the sheet of material and to separate from the backing.
- 45. The apparatus of claim 42 further comprising:
means for supporting the means for applying a pressure sensitive adhesive strip for movement in an upward direction generally away from the portion of material and for movement in a downwardly direction generally toward the portion of material, the means for applying a pressure sensitive adhesive strip moveable for disposing the portion of the material in a position thereunder and for accommodating different thicknesses of material.
- 46. The apparatus of claim 42 wherein the material of the roll of material is defined further as being constructed of a material selected from a group of materials consisting of paper, metal foil, cloth (natural or synthetic), denim, burlap or polymer film or combinations thereof.
- 47. The apparatus of claim 42 wherein the material of the roll of material is defined further as having a thickness in a range from less than about 0.1 mils to about 30 mils.
- 48. The apparatus of claim 42 wherein the material of the roll of material is defined further as being a non-shape sustaining material.
- 49. A method for wrapping a floral grouping having a stem portion and a bloom portion, comprising:
providing a sheet of material having an upper surface and a lower surface and constructed of non-heat sealable, non-shape sustaining material: passing at least a portion of the sheet of material by an adhesive strip applicator which applies an adhesive strip to at least one of the upper and lower surfaces thereof wherein adhesive strip applicator further comprises: a housing for containing a quantity of adhesive transfer tape, means attached to the housing for supporting the adhesive transfer tape, the adhesive transfer tape comprising an adhesive strip with a backing applied to the adhesive strip, the backing readily separable from the adhesive strip, and means for causing a portion of the adhesive transfer tape to contact at least one surface of the sheet of material as the sheet of material is drawn across the material support simultaneously causing the adhesive layer to adhere to the sheet of material and to separate from the backing; placing the floral grouping on the sheet of material after the adhesive strip has been applied thereto; and wrapping the sheet of material about the floral grouping to a position, wherein the portion of the sheet of material having the adhesive thereon contacts another portion of the sheet of material for adhesively connecting the sheet of material and securing the sheet of material about the floral grouping, the sheet of material substantially encompassing and surrounding a substantial portion of the stem portion of the floral grouping with the sheet of material wrapped about the floral grouping having an opening extending through the lower end thereof and an opening extending through the upper end thereof with the stem portion of the floral grouping extending through the opening in the lower end and the flower end of the floral grouping being exposed near the opening in the upper end, the sheet of material being wrapped tightly about the stem portion of the floral grouping and the sheet of material wrapped loosely about the flower end of the floral grouping.
- 50. The method of claim 49 wherein the steps of passing and wrapping are in a continuous process.
- 51. A method for wrapping a floral grouping, comprising:
providing a roll of material wherein the material has an upper surface and a lower surface and is constructed of a non-heat sealable, non-shape sustaining material; unrolling material from the roll of material; passing at least a portion of the material by an adhesive strip applicator which applies an adhesive strip to at least one of the upper and lower surfaces thereof wherein adhesive strip applicator further comprises: a housing for containing a quantity of adhesive transfer tape, means attached to the housing for supporting the adhesive transfer tape, the adhesive transfer tape comprising an adhesive strip with a backing applied to the adhesive strip, the backing readily separable from the adhesive strip, and means for causing a portion of the adhesive transfer tape to contact at least one surface of the sheet of material as the sheet of material is drawn across the material support simultaneously causing the adhesive layer to adhere to the sheet of material and to separate from the backing; cutting a sheet of material from the roll of material after an adhesive strip has been applied to the material; placing the floral grouping on the sheet of materials; and wrapping the sheet of material about the floral grouping to a position wherein the portion of the sheet of material having the adhesive thereon contacts another portion of the sheet of material for adhesively connecting the sheet of material and securing the sheet of material about the floral grouping, the sheet of material substantially encompassing and surrounding a substantial portion of the stem portion of the floral grouping with the sheet of material wrapped about the floral grouping having an opening extending through the lower end thereof and an opening extending through the upper end thereof with the stem portion of the floral grouping extending through the opening in the lower end and the flower end of the floral grouping being exposed near the opening in the upper end, the sheet of material being wrapped tightly about the stem portion of the floral grouping and the sheet of material wrapped loosely about the flower end of the floral grouping.
- 52. The method of claim 51 wherein the steps of unrolling, passing, cutting and wrapping are in a continuous process.
- 53. A method for wrapping a flower pot with a decorative cover, comprising:
providing a sheet of material having an upper surface and a lower surface and constructed of non-heat sealable, non-shape sustaining material: passing at least a portion of the material by an adhesive strip applicator which applies an adhesive strip to at least one of the upper and lower surfaces thereof wherein adhesive strip applicator further comprises:
a housing for containing a quantity of adhesive transfer tape, means attached to the housing for supporting the adhesive transfer tape, the adhesive transfer tape comprising an adhesive strip with a backing applied to the adhesive strip, the backing readily separable from the adhesive strip, and means for causing a portion of the adhesive transfer tape to contact at least one surface of the sheet of material as the sheet of material is drawn across the material support simultaneously causing the adhesive layer to adhere to the sheet of material and to separate from the backing; placing a flower pot on the sheet of material after the adhesive strip has been applied thereto; and wrapping the sheet of material about the flower pot wherein at least a portion of the adhesive strip contacts a portion of the outer surface of the flower pot for adhesively connecting the sheet of material to the flower pot and securing the sheet of material about the flower pot, the sheet of material substantially encompassing and surrounding the flower pot and extending around a floral arrangement disposed within the flower pot when a floral arrangement is disposed within the flower pot.
- 54. The method of claim 53 wherein the steps of passing and wrapping are in a continuous process.
- 55. The method of claim 53 wherein the step of wrapping the sheet of material about the flower pot further comprises using a cover forming apparatus.
- 56. The method of claim 55 wherein the cover forming apparatus further comprises an apparatus having pivoting forming members.
- 57. A method for wrapping a flower pot with a decorative cover, comprising:
providing a roll of material wherein the material has an upper surface and a lower surface and is constructed of a non-heat sealable, non-shape sustaining material; unrolling material from the roll of material; passing at least a portion of the material by an adhesive strip applicator which applies an adhesive strip to at least one of the upper and lower surfaces thereof wherein adhesive strip applicator further comprises:
a housing for containing a quantity of adhesive transfer tape, means attached to the housing for supporting the adhesive transfer tape, the adhesive transfer tape comprising an adhesive strip with a backing applied to the adhesive strip, the backing readily separable from the adhesive strip, and means for causing a portion of the adhesive transfer tape to contact at least one surface of the sheet of material as the sheet of material is drawn across the material support simultaneously causing the adhesive layer to adhere to the sheet of material and to separate from the backing; cutting a sheet of material from the roll of material after the adhesive strip has been applied to the material; placing a flower pot on the sheet of material after the adhesive strip has been applied thereto; and wrapping the sheet of material about the flower pot wherein at least a portion of the adhesive strip contacts a portion of the outer surface of the flower pot for adhesively connecting the sheet of material to the flower pot and securing the sheet, of material about the flower pot, the sheet of material substantially encompassing and surrounding the flower pot and extending around a floral arrangement disposed within the flower pot when a floral arrangement is disposed within the flower pot.
- 58. The method of claim 57 wherein the steps of unrolling, passing, cutting and wrapping are in a continuous process.
- 59. The method of claim 57 wherein the step of wrapping the sheet of material about the flower pot further comprises using a cover forming apparatus.
- 60. The method of claim 59 wherein the cover forming apparatus further comprises an apparatus having pivoting forming members.
