Claims
- 1. An article of manufacture which comprises a material for sealing threaded pipe joints comprising a single strand multifilament yarn and a joint sealing composition ready-coated over the yarn, the joint sealing composition comprising a hydroxyl-terminated polydimethyl siloxane and a filler, and a dispenser having the coated yarn packaged therein from which the coated yarn may be supplied for direct application to a threaded area of a pipe.
- 2. An article according to claim 1, wherein the dispenser has an aperture for dispensing the coated yarn and closure means for closing over the aperture when the dispenser is not in use.
- 3. An article according to claim 1, wherein the hydroxyl-terminated polydimethyl siloxane and the filler are present in the composition in proportions of 20-40 parts by weight hydroxyl-terminated polydimethyl siloxane and 80-60 parts by weight filler.
- 4. An article according to claim 1, wherein the filler is a calcium carbonate filler.
- 5. An article according to claim 4, wherein the hydroxyl-terminated polydimethyl siloxane and the calcium carbonate filler are present in the composition in proportions of 20-40 parts by weight hydroxyl-terminated polydimethyl siloxane and 80-60 parts by weight calcium carbonate filler.
- 6. An article according to claim 1, wherein the yarn is a polyamide or polypropylene.
- 7. An article according to claim 1, wherein the material comprises 30-70% w/w sealing composition on 70-30% w/w yarn.
- 8. An article according to claim 1, wherein the dispenser comprises a hollow body, a cap portion having a dispensing aperture therein and closure means for closing over the aperture when the dispenser is not in use.
- 9. An article of manufacture which comprises:
a material for sealing threaded pipe joints comprising:
(a) a single strand multifilament yarn and a joint sealing composition ready-coated over the yarn, the joint sealing composition comprising:
(i) an oil selected from a group consisting of hydroxyl-terminated silicone oil, linseed oil, mineral oil and combinations thereof, and (ii) a filler, the joint sealing composition having a viscosity from about 20,000 mPas to about 500,000 mPas; and (b) a dispenser having the coated yarn packaged therein from which the coated yarn may be supplied for direct application to a threaded area of a pipe.
- 10. An article according to claim 9, wherein the filler is a calcium carbonate filler.
- 11. An article according to claim 9, wherein the oil and the filler are present in the composition in proportions of 20-40 parts by weight oil and 80-60 parts by weight filler.
- 12. A dispenser of material for sealing threaded pipe joints comprising a hollow body, a cap portion having a dispensing aperture therein and closure means for closing over the aperture when the dispenser is not in use, wherein a single strand multifilament yarn ready-coated with a pipe-joint sealing composition is contained in the body, and further wherein the composition comprises a hydroxyl-terminated polydimethyl siloxane and a calcium carbonate filler.
- 13. An article of manufacture which comprises a material for sealing threaded pipe joints comprising a multifilament polyamide or polypropylene yarn having a dtex fiber diameter from about 500 to about 5,000 grams weight of yarn per 10,000 meters of yarn and a joint sealing composition, the yarn being coated with a joint sealing composition; and a dispenser having the coated yarn therein from which the coated yarn may be supplied for direct application to a threaded area of a pipe, wherein the joint sealing composition is a non-curing paste composition comprising an oil and a filler or is a curable polymeric composition comprising a reactive monomer.
- 14. An article according to claim 13, wherein the dispenser is hermetically sealed prior to its initial use.
- 15. An article according to claim 13, wherein the dispenser has an aperture for dispensing the coated yarn and closure means for closing over the aperture when the dispenser is not in use.
- 16. An article according to claim 13, wherein the reactive monomer of the curable polymeric composition is selected from the group consisting of a mono-functional acrylate ester, a poly-functional acrylate ester, a mono-functional methacrylate ester, a poly-functional methacrylate ester and combinations thereof.
- 17. An article according to claim 13, wherein the non-curing paste composition has a viscosity from about 20,000 mPas to about 500,000 mPas.
- 18. An article according to claim 13, wherein the filler is selected from the group consisting of a mineral filler, a powdered polymer filler, a chopped aramid fiber filler, a chopped polyethylene fiber filler, a chopped carbon fiber filler, an aramid fiber pulp filler and combinations thereof.
- 19. An article according to claim 13, wherein the oil is a member selected from the group consisting of linseed oil, hydroxyl-terminated silicone oil, mineral oil and combinations thereof.
