Abstract
The present invention relates to a foldable pocket bedsheet for enclosing a mattress. The foldable pocket bedsheet features a pocket-like body and is configured to slide over a mattress. More specifically, the foldable pocket bedsheet comprises a top panel, a bottom panel, a pair of opposing side panels and a foot panel collectively defining a cavity for enclosing the mattress. The foldable pocket bedsheet further comprises at least one internal fabric handle and multiple exterior handles that allow the foldable pocket bedsheet to be easily folded, utilized, and/or transported.
Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates generally to the field of bed coverings. More specifically, the present invention relates to a mattress encasing bedsheet with a pocket-like body designed to easily slide over a mattress and prevent the sheet from slipping off the corners of the bed. The mattress encasing bedsheet comprises a pocket-like body comprising an opening on one end that allows the users to insert the mattress into the open end of the bedsheet and slide the bedsheet over the mattress to completely cover the mattress body. Further, the mattress encasing bedsheet features two interior fabric handles and several exterior handles that allow the bedsheet to be easily folded, utilized and/or transported. Accordingly, the present specification makes specific reference thereto. Nonetheless, it is to be appreciated that aspects of the present invention are also equally applicable to other like applications, devices and methods of manufacture.


BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

By way of background, bed coverings such as bedsheets are used by all individuals to cover mattresses and make beds. Generally, while making a bed, the bedsheet is spread over a mattress and then the edges of the bedsheets are tucked around the edges of the mattress. While sleeping or using the bed, users may toss and/or turn and change position, thereby causing the bedsheet to become untucked and removed from the mattress. If the bedsheet does not stay tucked underneath the mattress, the bedsheet may become removed from the mattress and may become an inconvenience to the user. People may become uncomfortable while sleeping on the mattress without having use of a bedsheet. Also, the user may have to continuously adjust the bedsheet to sleep properly, which is also an inconvenience.


Making the bed with a completely untucked bedsheet may take a user more time to properly tuck and arrange the bedsheet along the edges of the mattress. Thus, housekeeping staff, who changes bedsheets in hospitals and/or hotels, may require an extended amount of time in changing beds. Due to slippage of bedsheets, users are required to frequently change out the sheets or re-make the bed, which leads to frustration. If users do not make the bed and leave the bed with wrinkled bedsheets removed from the mattress, the room will look dirty and unappealing.


Therefore, there exists a long felt need in the art for a bedsheet that can be properly arranged over a mattress positioned on a bed. There is also a long felt need in the art for a bedsheet that is prevented from slipping off the corners of a mattress. Additionally, there is a long felt need in the art for a bedsheet that is not removed from a mattress while a user is turning and/or tossing during sleep. Moreover, there is a long felt need in the art for a bedsheet that is properly positioned on a mattress and does not fall off. Further, there is a long felt need in the art for a bedsheet that eliminates the need to adjust the bedsheet while sleeping, and saves a user time when making his or her bed. Furthermore, there is a long felt need in the art for a bedsheet that can be easily positioned on mattresses by housekeeping staff and does not require an extended amount of time when changing bedsheets. Finally, there is a long felt need in the art for a bedsheet that is not prone to movement or slippage, and does not require a user to continuously adjust the sheet.


The subject matter disclosed and claimed herein, in one embodiment thereof, comprises a pocket bedsheet device for a mattress that is configured to have a pocket-like body for enclosing a mattress. The pocket bedsheet device further comprises a top panel, a bottom panel, a pair of opposing side panels and a foot panel collectively defining a cavity or opening for enclosing the mattress. The pocket bedsheet device features an opening to receive a mattress. Once the mattress is properly inserted into the bedsheet cavity, the top panel of the bedsheet touches or adheres to a top surface of the mattress, the bottom panel of the bedsheet touches or adheres to a bottom surface of the mattress, the opposing side panels of the bedsheet touch or adhere to the side surfaces of the mattress and the foot panel of the bedsheet touches or adheres to the foot surface of the mattress. The pocket bedsheet device slides around the mattress to enclose the entire mattress and remain in a stable position.


In this manner, the novel mattress-encasing bedsheet of the present invention accomplishes all of the forgoing objectives, and provides a relatively easy, convenient and stable solution to positioning a bedsheet over a mattress. The pocket-like structure of the mattress-encasing bedsheet of the present invention properly encloses the mattress from all the sides, thereby eliminating the risk of a bedsheet being removed from the mattress. The mattress encasing bedsheet is not prone to movement and slippage, and thus prevents users from continuously adjusting their bedsheets while sleeping, and requires less time when making the bed. The mattress-encasing bedsheet is a convenient option for housekeeping staff at hospitals, hotels, etc., as it does not require an extended amount of time to make beds and can be easily positioned over mattresses.


SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The following presents a simplified summary in order to provide a basic understanding of some aspects of the disclosed innovation. This summary is not an extensive overview, and it is not intended to identify key/critical elements or to delineate the scope thereof. Its sole purpose is to present some general concepts in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.


The subject matter disclosed and claimed herein, in one embodiment thereof, comprises a pocket bedsheet device for a mattress. The pocket bedsheet device is configured to comprise a pocket-like body for enclosing a mattress. The pocket bedsheet device further comprises a top panel, a bottom panel, a pair of opposing side panels and a foot panel collectively defining a cavity or opening for enclosing the mattress. Once the mattress is properly encased by the pocket bedsheet device, the top panel touches or adheres to a top surface of the mattress, the bottom panel touches or adheres to a bottom surface of the mattress, the pair of opposing side panels touch or adhere to side surfaces of the mattress and the foot panel touches or adheres to a foot surface of the mattress. Typically, the pocket bedsheet device slides around a mattress to enclose the mattress.


In yet another embodiment of the present invention, the pocket bedsheet device comprises a brand logo near the foot panel, and at least one internal fabric handle and a plurality of exterior handles for folding and transporting the pocket bedsheet device easily and neatly.


In a further embodiment of the present invention, a foldable bedsheet device having a continuous cavity is disclosed. The foldable bedsheet device includes a continuous cavity or opening for receiving a mattress. The continuous cavity is formed by a top panel, a bottom panel, a pair of opposing side panels and a foot panel, and wherein the mattress is inserted into the continuous cavity by sliding the mattress directly into the cavity.


In a further embodiment of the present invention, a method for enclosing a mattress with a pocket-structured bedsheet device is described. The method includes inserting a mattress into a continuous opening of the pocket-structured bedsheet device wherein the continuous opening is collectively formed by a top panel, a bottom panel, a pair of opposing side panels and a foot panel. The bedsheet is folded using internal and exterior handles, wherein the folding is performed along a central lateral axis of the pocket-structured bedsheet device.


In yet another embodiment of the present invention, the continuous opening or cavity can be closed using a fastener, such as a hook and loop fastener or a zipper, etc. Also, the bedsheet can have an elastic edge along the opening to form fit to a mattress.


Advantageously, the bedsheet of the present invention is a bed sheet with a pocket-like body designed to slide over a mattress and prevent the bedsheet from slipping off the corners of the mattress. The bedsheet can be easily folded, utilized and/or transported, and is available in a variety of sizes, colors and materials.


To the accomplishment of the foregoing and related ends, certain illustrative aspects of the disclosed innovation are described herein in connection with the following description and the annexed drawings. These aspects are indicative, however, of but a few of the various ways in which the principles disclosed herein can be employed and are intended to include all such aspects and their equivalents. Other advantages and novel features will become apparent from the following detailed description when considered in conjunction with the drawings.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PRESENT INVENTION

The innovation is now described with reference to the drawings, wherein like reference numerals are used to refer to like elements throughout. In the following description, for purposes of explanation, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding thereof. It may be evident, however, that the innovation can be practiced without these specific details. In other instances, well-known structures and devices are shown in block diagram form in order to facilitate a description thereof. Various embodiments are discussed hereinafter. It should be noted that the figures are described only to facilitate the description of the embodiments. They are not intended as an exhaustive description of the invention and do not limit the scope of the invention. Additionally, an illustrated embodiment need not have all the aspects or advantages shown. Thus, in other embodiments, any of the features described herein from different embodiments may be combined.


As noted above, there exists a long felt need in the art for a bedsheet that can be securely positioned on a mattress. There is also a long felt need in the art for a bedsheet that does not slip off of the corners of a mattress. Additionally, there is a long felt need in the art for a bedsheet that is not removed from the mattress while a user tosses and/or turns during sleep. Moreover, there is a long felt need in the art for a bedsheet that is securely positioned on a mattress and does not fall off. Further, there is a long felt need in the art for a bedsheet that eliminates the need to adjust the bedsheet while sleeping and saves a user time while making his or her bed. Furthermore, there is a long felt need in the art for a bedsheet that can be easily positioned on mattresses by housekeeping staff and does not require an extended amount of time when frequently changing bedsheets. Finally, there is a long felt need in the art for a bedsheet that is not prone to movement or slippage and does not cause a user to continuously adjust the sheet on the mattress.


The present invention, in one embodiment, is a novel foldable bedsheet device having a continuous cavity. The foldable bedsheet device comprises a continuous cavity or opening for receiving a mattress. The continuous cavity is formed by a top panel, a bottom panel, a pair of opposing side panels and a foot panel, and wherein the mattress is inserted into the cavity via sliding the mattress directly into the cavity.


Referring initially to the drawings, FIG. 1 illustrates a perspective view of one embodiment of the mattress-encasing bedsheet device of the present invention. The mattress-encasing bedsheet device 100 of the present invention is configured to be easily positioned on or removed from a mattress and is designed in a pocket-like body. The mattress encasing bedsheet device 100 securely encapsulates a mattress and remains in place without slipping off the corners of the bed/mattress. The mattress-encasing bedsheet device 100 has an opening 112 and cavity 113 allowing a user to insert a mattress into the mattress-encasing bedsheet device 100.


The bedsheet device 100 comprises a top panel 102, a bottom panel 104, (a pair of opposing side panels) specifically, a left side panel 106, a right side panel 108 and a foot panel 110. The bedsheet device 100 further comprises an opening 112 and cavity 113 formed by the panels 102, 104, 106, 108, and 110, which allow a mattress to be slid into the opening 112 and retained in the cavity 113, and thus completely enclosed by the bedsheet device 100. It should be noted that the opening 112 is typically accessed at the head end 114 of the bedsheet device 100, where the head of a user (not shown) lying on a mattress enclosed by the bedsheet device 100 is positioned, but can be accessed at a foot end or even a side end of the bedsheet device 100.


It should be understood that once the bedsheet device 100 is properly in position on a mattress, the top panel 102 contacts a top surface of a mattress, the bottom panel 104 contacts a bottom surface of the mattress, opposing side panels 106, 108 contact opposing side surfaces of the mattress and the foot panel 110 contacts a foot surface of the mattress. Generally, the top panel 102, the bottom panel 104, the opposing side panels 106, 108 and the foot panel 110 can be manufactured from conventional bedsheet material, or any other suitable material as is known in the art. The bedsheet device 100 is dimensioned to be the same shape and size as per standard mattress sizes available in the market.


The perimeter of the bedsheet device 100 is aligned with the perimeter of the mattress enclosed by the bedsheet device 100, such that the bedsheet device 100 extends along the entire perimeter of such enclosed mattress. The bedsheet device 100 can be manufactured in various sizes to be applicable for use with different sized mattresses, such as twin, twin-extra-long, full, queen, king and California king sized mattresses. The bedsheet device 100 can be sized and shaped to be positioned on or over any existing mattresses.


It should be noted that the bedsheet device 100 is well-suited for many applications, such as a hotel or hospital setting, in which beds are changed frequently and quickly. In the present embodiment, the bedsheet device 100 comprises an elasticized edging, or any suitable stretchy material as is known in the art, around the perimeter of the head end 114. The elasticized edging acts to form fit and secure the bedsheet device 100 on the mattress. Alternatively, the head end 114 may not comprise elastic and can be a conventional sewn edge as on conventional bedsheets.


The bedsheet device 100 eliminates the need for a user to make a bed using a fitted sheet and a flat sheet, which are both prone to movement and slippage. The bedsheet device 100 may be manufactured of a water-impervious, vapor-permeable and/or flame retardant material. Other suitable materials may be used as well, including materials such as 100% cotton materials or textiles having varying percentages of cotton, as well as numerous other textiles, including silk, satin, polyester, etc., as well as any other suitable material as is known in the art. The bedsheet device 100 can also be manufactured of a cooling or wicking material for use in the summer months or in hot climates, and/or may be manufactured of terry cloth, cotton fabric, polyester fabric, blended and/or wool fabric for use in the winter months or in cold climates.


The bedsheet device 100 also comprises a brand logo 118 or other such tag/label that is secured near the foot panel 110 of the bedsheet device 100. The brand logo 118 or other such tag/label is of a shape and size to sufficiently display a logo and/or design and can be secured using a variety of means including adhesive, hook-and-loop fasteners, Velcro®, stitching, etc.


Furthermore, the bedsheet device 100 comprises a plurality of exterior handles 116 that allow the bedsheet device 100 to be easily folded, utilized and/or transported. Any suitable number of exterior handles 116 can be utilized, depending on the wants and/or needs of a user. The exterior handles 116 can be positioned at any desired position on the exterior of the bedsheet device 100, and may be manufactured of any suitable fabric known in the art. Typically, the exterior handles 116 are sewn onto the exterior of the bedsheet device 100, but can be secured via any other suitable means as is known in the art. Besides transportation and folding, the exterior handles 116 are also utilized for sliding the bedsheet device 100 onto the mattress to easily encapsulate the mattress within the bedsheet device 100.



FIG. 2 illustrates a perspective view disclosing how the bedsheet device of the present invention encases a mattress. The bedsheet device 100 comprises a perimeter aligned with the perimeter of a mattress 200. The mattress 200 is generally rectangular in shape and has a top surface 202, a bottom surface 204, opposing side surfaces 206, 208 and a foot surface 210. The bedsheet device 100 via opening 112 is slid over the mattress 200, and completely encases the mattress 200.


Once the bedsheet device 100 is properly positioned around the mattress 200, the top panel 102 of the bedsheet device 100 contacts the top surface 202 of the mattress 200. The bottom panel 104 of the bedsheet device 100 contacts the bottom surface 204 of the mattress 200. The left side panel 106 contacts the left side surface 206 of the mattress 200, the right side panel 108 contacts the right side surface 208 of the mattress 200, and the foot panel 110 contacts the foot surface 210 of the mattress 200. The bedsheet device 100 is then slid over and around the mattress 200 using the exterior handles 116 disposed at various positions on the exterior surface of the bedsheet device 100.


Furthermore, the bedsheet device 100 is positioned on the mattress 200 such that the logo 118 or other such tag/label is situated on the top surface 202 of the mattress 200 toward the foot surface 210. Thus, when the bedsheet device 100 is fully secured in place and completely encloses the mattress 200, the logo 118 or other such tag/label is seen near the foot surface 210 of the mattress 200 and not near a user's head which might cause irritation and/or aggravation for the user.



FIG. 3 illustrates a close-up view disclosing the interior handles and exterior handles of the bedsheet device of the present invention. The bedsheet device 100 comprises a plurality of exterior handles 116 disposed on any exterior surface of the bedsheet device 100 and at least one interior handle 302. Any suitable number of interior handles 302 can be utilized depending on the wants and/or needs of a user. The interior handles 302 can be positioned at any desired position on the interior of the bedsheet device 100 and may be manufactured of any suitable fabric known in the art. Typically, the interior handles 302 are sewn onto the interior of the bedsheet device 100, but can be secured via any other suitable means as is known in the art. The interior fabric handle 302, along with the exterior handles 116, allow the bedsheet device 100 to be easily folded, utilized and/or transported when not in use. Specifically, the exterior handles 116 act as lift handles allowing a user to easily carry the bedsheet device 100. Besides transportation and folding, the interior handles 302 and the exterior handles 116 are also utilized for sliding the bedsheet device 100 onto the mattress to easily encapsulate the mattress within the bedsheet device 100.



FIG. 4 illustrates a perspective view of another embodiment of the mattress-encasing bedsheet device of the present invention. In the present embodiment, edges of the opening 402 of the mattress-encasing bedsheet device 400 comprise hook and loop fasteners to completely secure the bedsheet device 400 around a mattress. Specifically, the hook fastener 406 engages with and secures to loop fastener 404 to securely close the opening 402. However, other suitable fasteners can be utilized as well, such as a zipper, buttons, etc., or any other suitable fastening means as are known in the art. It should also be noted that all other features and characteristics such as material, dimensions, shape and/or size of the bedsheet device 400 of the present embodiment are similar to those described in FIG. 1, bedsheet device 100.



FIG. 5 illustrates a perspective view disclosing the pocket bedsheet device of the present invention positioned on a mattress. As shown, the pocket bedsheet device 100 completely encloses a mattress 200 placed on a bed 500. The bedsheet device 100 secures the mattress 200 and eliminates movement and slippage of the bedsheet device 100. The bedsheet device 100 does not slip off the corners of the bed 500 when used by a user 502. Also, the bedsheet device 100 remains in place even if the user 502 tosses and/or turns while sleeping on the mattress 200.



FIG. 6 illustrates a perspective view disclosing the pocket bedsheet device of the present invention folded up for transport. To allow a user to easily carry and transport the bedsheet device 100, the bedsheet device 100 is folded in half along a virtual lateral central axis 602. The virtual lateral central axis 602 allows the bedsheet device 100 to be folded into two equal lengths, and the exterior handles 116 and interior handle 302 are then used by a user for easy transportation of the bedsheet device 100.


Certain terms are used throughout the following description and claims to refer to particular features or components. As one skilled in the art will appreciate, different persons may refer to the same feature or component by different names. This document does not intend to distinguish between components or features that differ in name but not structure or function. As used herein “mattress-encasing bedsheet device”, “bedsheet device”, “pocket bedsheet device” and “pocket-like bedsheet device” are interchangeable and refer to the mattress-encasing bedsheet device 100, 400 of the present invention.


Notwithstanding the forgoing, the mattress-encasing bedsheet device 100, 400 of the present invention can be of any suitable size and configuration as is known in the art without affecting the overall concept of the invention, provided that it accomplishes the above stated objectives. One of ordinary skill in the art will appreciate that the size, configuration, and material of the mattress-encasing bedsheet device 100, 400 as shown in the FIGS. is for illustrative purposes only, and that many other sizes and shapes of the mattress-encasing bedsheet device 100, 400 are well within the scope of the present disclosure. Although the dimensions of the mattress-encasing bedsheet device 100, 400 are important design parameters for user convenience, the mattress-encasing bedsheet device 100, 400 may be of any size that ensures optimal performance during use and/or that suits the user's needs and/or preferences.


Various modifications and additions can be made to the exemplary embodiments discussed without departing from the scope of the present invention. While the embodiments described above refer to particular features, the scope of this invention also includes embodiments having different combinations of features and embodiments that do not include all of the described features. Accordingly, the scope of the present invention is intended to embrace all such alternatives, modifications, and variations as fall within the scope of the claims, together with all equivalents thereof.

Furthermore, to the extent that the term “includes” is used in either the detailed description or the claims, such term is intended to be inclusive in a manner similar to the term “comprising” as “comprising” is interpreted when employed as a transitional word in a claim.

Claims
  • 1. A mattress-encasing bedsheet device that securely encapsulates a mattress and remains in place without slipping off of the mattress, the mattress-encasing bedsheet device comprising: a top panel;a bottom panel;a pair of opposing side panels; anda foot panel, wherein the top panel, the bottom panel, the pair of opposing side panels, and the foot panel form a cavity, and further wherein a mattress is directly inserted into the cavity, such that the mattress encasing bedsheet device securely encapsulates the mattress.
  • 2. The mattress-encasing bedsheet device of claim 1, wherein the pair of opposing side panels comprise a right side panel and a left side panel.
  • 3. The mattress-encasing bedsheet device of claim 2, wherein once the mattress encasing bedsheet device is secured on the mattress, the top panel contacts a top surface of the mattress and the bottom panel contacts a bottom surface of the mattress.
  • 4. The mattress-encasing bedsheet device of claim 3, wherein once the mattress encasing bedsheet device is secured on the mattress, the left side panel contacts a left side surface of the mattress, the right side panel contacts a right side surface of the mattress, and the foot panel contacts a foot surface of the mattress.
  • 5. The mattress-encasing bedsheet device of claim 4, wherein the cavity comprises an opening for inserting the mattress.
  • 6. The mattress-encasing bedsheet device of claim 5, wherein the opening comprises a perimeter edge.
  • 7. The mattress-encasing bedsheet device of claim 6, wherein the perimeter edge comprises an elasticized edging which acts to form fit and secure the mattress encasing bedsheet device on the mattress.
  • 8. The mattress-encasing bedsheet device of claim 6, wherein the perimeter edge comprises hook and loop fasteners to completely secure the mattress encasing bedsheet device around the mattress.
  • 9. The mattress-encasing bedsheet device of claim 6, wherein the perimeter edge comprises a zipper to completely secure the mattress encasing bedsheet device around the mattress.
  • 10. The mattress-encasing bedsheet device of claim 1, wherein a brand logo is secured near the foot panel for displaying a company logo.
  • 11. The mattress-encasing bedsheet device of claim 1 further comprising a plurality of exterior handles sewn onto an exterior of the mattress encasing bedsheet device.
  • 12. The mattress-encasing bedsheet device of claim 11 further comprising an interior handle sewn onto an interior of the mattress encasing bedsheet device.
  • 13. The mattress-encasing bedsheet device of claim 12, wherein the mattress encasing bedsheet device is folded in half along a virtual lateral central axis.
  • 14. The mattress-encasing bedsheet device of claim 13, wherein the plurality of exterior handles and the interior handle allow the mattress encasing bedsheet device to be easily transported when folded.
  • 15. A mattress-encasing bedsheet device that securely encapsulates a mattress and remains in place without slipping off the mattress, the mattress-encasing bedsheet device comprising: a top panel;a bottom panel;a right side panel;a left side panel; anda foot panel, wherein the top panel, the bottom panel, the right side panel, the left side panel, and the foot panel form a cavity which comprises an opening with an elasticized perimeter edging for securing around a mattress, and further wherein the mattress is directly inserted through the opening into the cavity, such that the mattress encasing bedsheet device securely encapsulates the mattress.
  • 16. The mattress-encasing bedsheet device of claim 15, wherein once the mattress encasing bedsheet device is secured on the mattress, the top panel contacts a top surface of the mattress, the bottom panel contacts a bottom surface of the mattress, the left side panel contacts a left side surface of the mattress, the right side panel contacts a right side surface of the mattress, and the foot panel contacts a foot surface of the mattress.
  • 17. The mattress-encasing bedsheet device of claim 16 further comprising a plurality of exterior handles sewn onto an exterior of the mattress encasing bedsheet device.
  • 18. The mattress-encasing bedsheet device of claim 17 further comprising an interior handle sewn onto an interior of the mattress encasing bedsheet device.

  • 20. A method for securely encapsulating a mattress comprising: inserting a mattress into an opening of a cavity of a mattress-encasing bedsheet device,wherein the cavity and the opening are collectively formed by a top panel, a bottom panel, a pair of opposing side panels and a foot panel.
